Found this channel from reddit, but I wasn't expecting to find such a gem. I actually have some computer issues and wanted to transfer my hard drive data from my desktop (having memory and other issues) to my laptop (works fine). This seems to be exactly what I've been searching for, thanks for this informative video!
I bought this product. It's fantastic! Now I can utilize all those old HDDs that were taken from dead PCs. Dirt cheap storage! I went for the clear version and it glows with a blue LED and you can see the circuit board. Pretty cool!
I just purchased one for 2.5 and 3.5 and tried it on a hard drive from a very old non working PC. The hard drive fits in the opening but doesn’t match up with the little spikes on the inside of the dock. Not a techy person at all, what can I do now? Am I supposed to remove something else from the hard drive first? Thanks
@@irene58mirin your old hard drive is probably IDE, not SATA! ..if that's the case, then there's nothing you can do unfortunately! ..unless you can afford to buy another docking station that supports IDE!

What size drive are you trying to insert into the dock. If the drive has any mounting sled male sure to remove it first. Smaller drives would go through the smaller opening and try to match up the connectors before inserting. This dock uses a standard SATA connector.
I bought a Sata to usb cord in order to view and fix a hard drive that isn't working on my other laptop computer. But it doesn't show up on this laptop computer. Will an external drive dock such as you use, work better? Or is the problem that I need more power in order for it to show up on my computer? Someone advised me to get this: "get a 3.0 hard drive cable or dock." The Sata to usb drive cord I bought from Ebay has just one usb end, and so I can only plug it into a laptop computer. So Should I buy instead a kind that has 2 usb cords on it? Or do you think an external drive dock would work better for me? I fix my own laptop computers usually (whenever I can figure out how to do it). And have several of them.
They both are similar, if you're using an SSD then you can get away with external power, but if it's a HDD then you will need a cable with power input too.
Nice review. I do have a quick question though. I have a dead PC, and I would like to view the files (photos, movies, etc.) that are trapped on the HDD. Can I connect this device to my Chromebook to view the said files? Thank you.
Hi, I'm not sure if it'll work with a Chromebook, but you can view the files on the hdd using a laptop or desktop. It should most probably work with a Chromebook, but I can't gurantee as I don't have one.
What's a good way to eject, bro? it's still on and the light is still blue, if you turn it off immediately from docking, it means that it's forcibly turned off.
I just bought a new computer the reason was my old (not that old actually 2 years) system reported a S.M.A.R.T error on the drive. As I'm sure you and many people reading this already know this happens when you boot up the computer. My old system would boot but it was saying drive failure imminent. So since i didn't know when that might be i bought a new system i didn't have time to diagnose the situation & i have many TBs worth of audio (i produce music) backed up on external drives. My question knowing all that is can i use an enclosure to check for anything i missed, is it even worth it? One of the main things i lost were settings i forgot to write down like Foobar2000 tabs etc. These are important for my work should i get one of these or not. The drive is a 7200 rpm HDD. This time i made sure to buy a system with a SSD as my OS & Programs drive. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
If it's a dead hdd, it will not work with this device. Of it's still readable you can try backing up data, but if it's not being detected by your system the dock won't work.
A similar dock is available with two bays too. This allows connecting two drives using one usb port. Generally useful if you want to clone drives. amzn.to/2SPncGp
How loud would a 7200rpm HDD sound in one of these external docks? I'm trying to free up space in my case by removing my HDD cage so all my PSU cables are crammed up against it in sharp angles
I, have an external hard drive (really old type, at least a decade or more old) with data on it that I need to extract and store elsewhere, can I get another external hard drive and transfer the data that way? Is that possible? The port on the drive has given up, even though it looks undamaged. I think the whole drive and casing were dropped or something was dropped onto it? I, have purchased various USB and other cables hoping to extract the data but no luck yet. Maybe the docking station is the answer but they seem expensive just to be used for a one off. Shame there is no USB port on this retro hard drive and a sandisk could be plugged in and accept the transfer.
Yes, you can have multiple HDDs and swap them as required when watching. But it will be necessary to connect to a pc or media playback device to watch.
Hello sir.. My 4Tb Hdd (disassembled from WD My book) is showing partitions in Disk managament but not data and not even drive letter.. Can i use this docking for recover my data??
When connected to the pc via usb and it's not showing partitions ,the dock would show the same. Connecting directly to pc is a better bet, which would be done by removing the wd case and remove the harddrive. If you have a laptop then you will not be able to do this without the dock.
You can use it as an external drive, but to play you need something that can use it for gaming like a PC or console. You can't play games directly on it
If the hard drive isn't working you cannot recover the data. But if your hard drive works, this device can be used to make a backup before it totally fails.
This is not a NAS only an external hard drive dock. If you need a Network Attached storage then check this product out. th-cam.com/video/t-fnT4kU80w/w-d-xo.html

Please explain the difference in speed between Orico and external case HDD
Should be similar, as they are limited by the USB interface more than the case.

Do I have to do anything to the old drive before dismantling from the computer or simply dismantle and work with the dock without any hassle?
It works directly, it should just be the drive with no extras attached.
@@TalkingstuffNet Thanks!

It would help copying data off the drive, if the data is important it's a worthy investment.
i have an dead hard disk, is this device works on the same !

Is there a way to connect multiple HDD at the same time using one connector on laptop? can be powered externally?

It's not that loud, you can hear the drive when accessing, which is not very loud but is audible.
Can we use it for connecting TV?
If the TV supports external drives it might work as this is effectively an external hard drive case.
Can we use new external drive like External HDD
Yes, when connected via usb it acts like an external drive.
@@TalkingstuffNet Thank U quick reply

If the sata port is damaged, the dock will not work too.
@@TalkingstuffNet Yeah, still cannot get the data out. This really sucks.
Great Review :)
can you use that as a permanent storage (hdd) on your pc, meaning its turned on whenever pc is on and install games of your pc there?
It works as any external drive would, so it can be used as a permanently attached storage if necessary.
thank you sir, you earned 1 sub 👍
Thank you 😊
Thanks for explaining this.
Thank you good sir, great review 😊

In disk management you have an option to assign a drive letter. Check if you can and if the drive becomes accessible.
@@TalkingstuffNet Connected harddrive via only sata port by removing the wd case.. not USB..
Will this help me recover my stuff from a external hard drive it doesnt work anymore u can hear the disc just keep spinning and no reading.
If your drive is not working, this will not as you will need a working drive. If it's still not completely damaged you might be able to.
Excellent
I had bought it from amazon and didn't work for my seagate 3.5 inch hard drive so I returned it
It will work only with sata drives. I have used, Seagate, WD and Toshiba harddrives and they worked perfectly.
and can i use old pata hdds, if not then how? pl
Only SATA drives will work as it has the SATA data and power connectors only.
Thank you!

Sir dead hard disk docking ?
No guarantee it will work , as it's dead.

Hi!!!!! Can you make a video on TH-cam about how to upload a video on TH-cam even if the upload is going failed??
The upload might be failing due to wrong compression. Is the file in mp4 format, how long is it and how big is the file size.
Also are you using a mobile or laptop to upload?
