    THANK YOU. I see so many people on youtube forcing handling onto small or untamed monitors, but every keeper with tame monitors that I've spoken to say that you should not do that. I'm glad to see people like you who actually understand these animals and how to properly care for them.

    So I got an ackie about 10 months ago, my dad had to get one too and got his around the same time. My enclosure has been in my bedroom and his was in his office room that my dad rarely goes in. I had never once tried to pick her up until it felt right. My dad has force handled his two or three times. I started with just placing my hand in the enclosure just hoping for less and less of a scared reaction each time, but not forcing it. She is now at the stage where she is curious enough to climb on my hand sometimes and not flee in terror when I go for a grab but she still lazily tries to run from my grab like eaaah no touch 😭 At 10 months she tolerates me a lot and I can take her outside to bask on me with probably about 90% trust between us. However when I place my hand in my pops viv he starts tail whippin. Also I think its easier to tame them in a side open viv as opposed to top open. But just letting your lizard watch you in your bedroom and be used to you goes a long way in my personal experience

    Dude your making a simple process very difficult. I have extreme tame Ackies. I heve bred Ackies. My original pair I got. I handled them right out of the container. My babies I handle about a week after hatching.

    Waiting on my breeders captive bred ackies to pop so I can pick one up. Wanted a savannah or nile but the size is just not possible with my current living situation. Definitely doing A LOT of research on these guys.

    I have two ten months red ackies in a 6×2 incloseure,but all they do is hide, and I don't know if they are eating,should I put them in something smaller.

    • @ProfessorHerp
      @ProfessorHerp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would not go smaller. Have you been working on taming them? How do you offer food?

      @@ProfessorHerp I just throw about 30 Crickets in there every other day, I don't force myself on them. Seen them about three times In two weeks. They hide...

      @@Westisbest_Reptiles Taming isn't forcing yourself on them. I would look into some taming methods. May want to lower the amount of crickets too, make sure to add in some different inverts :)

      I am not sure how well that method works with Ackies but perhaps. They are smart. No harm trying it.

    At what age would u upgrade ur baby ackie to a full size enclosure. I belive i have mine in a 36x18x24 rn. I would say he is about 3 months now.
