  • The Commandos were formed in 1940 at the personal behest of Winston Churchill, wanting a force capable of carrying out raids and disrupting German operations throughout occupied Europe. Volunteers all, from across every branch of the British Armed Forces and including a handful of foreign nationals intent on taking the fight to the Axis forces and ensuring that no matter where they were stationed, no rear-line guard or bored sentry would ever be completely at ease...
    Trained to the highest standards and equipped with their pick of whatever equipment necessary to get the job done - from the Vickers K machine gun, the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife, Colt .45 pistols, or the formidable Thompson submachine gun - they were a thorn in the side of Axis forces wherever they struck, destroying fuel dumps, factories, munitions and accounting for scores of enemy casualties. This lead to the issue of Der Kommandobefehl - The Commando Order - that mandated any captured Commandos were to be executed without trial, such was the fear they engendered in German high command.

    I believe all boots were brown. However other ranks were required to black them with polish and were issued them pre blacked.
    Officers kept them brown cos officers.

      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right? It looks absolutely shocking going on, but even after just the drybrush and shade it's fairly good. The highlights make it look much more natural - the highly saturated pink dulls nicely under the brown shade.

    The Boy Scout beret was the same colour after the Baden Powel hat was replaced. It faded to a sort of Lovat Green but I’d have to pick it from a Vallejo colour chart if I can dig one out. Green is one of those colours badly affected by the sun as is some blue dyes and motor vehicle paints.

    The officers were issued with the same boots as the men , DMS rubber based soles . Officers boots and traditional British and commonwealth troops had hob nails on the soles , from a tactical perspective, this created a lot of noise especially in gravel. However this was not a problem for rubber based soles .
    As you can appreciate all of Commando’s equipment and ideas were pioneered by Sir Winston Churchill!

    How is your primer always so beautiful and smooth

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Warm it gently, and give it a good shake before you use it. I usually tuck the primer can under my arm for 8-10 minutes before using it while I'm preparing other stuff, then go out and shake for thirty seconds or so. I've primed miniatures in near zero temperatures - if it's too *hot* and humid you'll get dusty primer, but in normal circumstances the easiest solution to most priming problems is to just warm it up slightly.

    Super timing Sonic - just putting a batch of these together, would AP Skeleton Bone spray primer be a suitable alternative to the VA spray?

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that'd be my choice if you don't have the Vallejo primer. It'll take a couple of thin passes of English Uniform over the top, but it'll look warmer and a little more natural than doing it over a grey.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not quite sure how they'd fit against the Orlock bodies, honestly. The packs are open at one side and designed they sit flush with the plastic British bodies, so you'd probably have a little green stuff work to make them fit to the Necromunda figures. No big issue, though!

    I'm just getting back into the hobby after a 2 year hiatus but I just can't get a camo pattern right. Do you think you could help me with painting Russian Partizan camo?
    Thank you, have a good one!

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome aboard! :D
      Camo is all just a series of splotches, after a while - especially at this scale. I'd probably suggest the best place to start would be either the Bad Squiddo video I did with the amoeba patterns on the scouts, or check out the more modern multicam guide for some suggestions. I've done a few camo-related videos recently, so it'll be a little bit before I cycle back around on the subject for now, I'm afraid.

      If all else fails, a couple of coats of English Uniform will look best over something like Skeleton Bone from Army Painter or Citadel's Wraithbone, in my experience. A grey will work but can make the uniform look a lot more green than it ought to be, I find.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a bit fiddly, but you do find a knack to it. I tend to find the easiest way to do it is to have a sheet of kitchen towel laid out with all my decals on it quietly soaking on a wee bit of water that doesn't spread everywhere. Keeps things damp until I'm ready to get to each of them in turn!
