Fun Fact: During one of the outdoor dialogue recording sessions, a best take was almost ruined by the sound of a nearby boat. Open to the randomness, Wes Anderson modified the scene in this movie to include an airplane flying through the shot

One thing I really appreciate with this movie is how honest it is. It doesn't sugar coat anything, it doesn't make it too dramatic, and it doesn't make it too crazy. It just tells you straight up what happen, what is happening, and what is going to happen. But I want to see it happen because of how human it feels. Hands down one of my all-time favorite films!

The ending speech by Mr Fox about how the apples may look fake, "but at least they've got stars on", and how their tree may not grow back "but something else will", but at least they will eat well and with each other, ending with "here's to our...survival" is just so on point for life.
It's not perfect, nothings ever really gonna go back to what it might have been before, but you can at least have good company and make it to the next day each day.

This movie has SUCH a special place in my heart. When I was a kid, we moved to a brand new (for me) house and city , and we didn’t have regular television. Instead, we would go to the Family Video (about 10ish minutes away) and rent movies. We would rent this one over and over again because I would ALWAYS request it. The acting, the script, the artistry, the story! Eventually, my parents bought it for me on DVD and my own portable DVD player.
I just love this movie! ❤

One of the things I like about Wes Anderson is that he finds the complexity in simplicity. He finds strangeness in normality. It's such an odd film maker style to him. His stuff is never bad, nor dull, but they always feel off so even when things go bizarre, it doesn't feel out of place.
It's just another escalation of the off-kilter reality we all live in and the doubly-off-kilter steps the characters live in.

This is a classic. Love it. It’s my second favourite Wes Anderson film just behind The Grand Budapest Hotel.
I personally really love Wes Anderson’s style. There’s something about the perfect symmetry and the completely artificial yet realistic nature to them that I love. They’re artificial, but they aren’t CGI animated films, you’re always looking at something real, but still completely controlled by the filmmaker. I’m calling it, his films are probably the most stylised mainstream films, even directors like Scorsese or Tarantino still make fairly conventional settings for their work, Anderson makes every film like ice cream

  • @kevindolan9
    @kevindolan9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Wes Anderson stop motion films are always a spectacle, I mean the amount of detail on the tiny objects and set designs are what won me over fast to this style, seriously every single item is ridiculously detailed despite being tiny enough to be common items for the little stop motion figures. I remember Mr.Fox just sitting down and recieving French toast and while that isn’t anything special in other films here it is because of how detailed everything is, the utensils on the table the appliances in the kitchen the stuff magnetized on the fridge it’s insane how much effort they went just for scenes that don’t last long at all.

Wes Anderson is that one creative person for me that... any time I feel de-motivated, deflated or just about to give up on my creative endeavors I watch or remember one of his movies, and that spark and passion comes back again. He walks that line of being an artsy type of director while at the same time making films that legitimately feel they are for everyone. I relate so much with the way his characters speak with one another, even though my writing style is a lot louder than his is, and Fantastic Mr Fox is easily my favorite movie of his, there's not enough words to convey how much I love it

This is honestly my favourite film of all time. I love how it falls into that category of “an actually deep film that’s disguised as a family/kids film”. It was the first time I really had to think about an ending before cuz yeh, the animals don’t get a perfect ending and the scene with the wolf is obviously ambiguous, as a kid I knew it meant something but didn’t know at the time what it meant. Going back to it really made me appreciate the film a lot more cuz then I DID see the deep mess of the film and the true meaning of the wolf (in my interpretation) and Mr Fox’s fear of them. And it’s the only film I’ve watched where I don’t mind the ambiguity (cuz usually I don’t like having to figure out a films meaning, I’d rather just have it tell me)

I love the original story but this one definitely adds layers. It's a short simple story in the book but because of the amount of time built up with Mr Fox and his family, Rivals and enemies... you get more out of this premise and this is actually a really fun adaptation! It doesn't have to be 100% like the original but it adds just enough to make it unique and lovable! Much like some of dolhs other works adaptations; especially to animation!

I remember I got to see this movie in theaters when I was a kid; even though I kept getting too scared to see some scenes (the scene with the flooded tunnels was too scary for 9-year-old me). So well-written, so well-acted, beautifully animated and genuinely funny/emotional, and on top of that an EPIC adaptation/extension of the original novel. I've read it, and pretty much everything after Mr. Fox digs the tunnels to each one of the farmers' houses is completely original--the book stopped there. I remember hearing on either the director's commentary or in a behind-the-scenes video that they treated the movie like it was a film trilogy wrapped into a single film. 10/10 would Mr. Fox again.
I've only watched this, Isle of Dogs, and bits and pieces of Grand Budapest Hotel, as far as Wes' work; I absolutely plan on watching more of his work. Since you're interested in checking it out, Isle of Dogs is just as fucking amazing as Fantastic Mr. Fox; same style of animation and everything.

I read the book first, and it’s great. The film does hit those beats, but puts in a bunch of other stuff. Normally, this means THEY RUINED MY CHILDHOOD but somehow it didn’t? This and Where the Wild Things Are are two amazing films that are their own thing and don’t harm the work they’re based on. Not sure how to explain why…

the one scene that always stuck with me was the scene with the kids at night. there was something about the lack of dialogue that just perfectly stood out to me when i was little.

I've read the original book, it's a lot more simplistic and shorter than the film. But still keeps the thrill-seeking adventures of Mr. Fox intact. The film is quite unique though and I can appreciate the voice cast, writers and animators took a lot of time in expanding the scope of what made the book great. :D

I grew up reading this book (and other Dahl books), and the movie does hit bullet points, as Doug said. The book is actually much simpler than the movie: animals aren’t as anthropomorphized, and Mr. Fox steals from the farmers with his family’s knowledge and blessing. The book’s story also ends immediately after the Fox digs tunnels beneath the farmers’ stockpiles, giving all the animals access to endless food so they can remain underground forever, all while the farmers continue to wait at the original burrow’s entrance for a chance to shoot their nemesis. It’s a simple story, but an effective one for kids, and it’s expanded upon beautifully by this movie.

I admit this is the Wes Anderson film I'd ever seen. As a result, it didn't click with me the first time I saw it and that's because I wasn't used to his style but when I saw it a second time, I really got it and I've loved it since. Stop motion is also my favorite type of animation and this style works for him.

I absolutely love this movie and I agree with everything Doug says about it. I remember watching this movie and just loving every second. The humour, the heartfelt-ness, the animation, music, dialogue etc etc everything is just so well thought out. I just love it.
Also one of my favourite things; George Clooney actually eating things making growling noises for the sound while he's killing/eating chickens. Just makes me laugh.

Probably my only movie watched made by the director(not a big movie buff), but one of the things about this movie that had me both intrigued and tweakin' out about was the AMOUNT OF SYMMETRY IN NEAR EVERY SHOT/FRAME. It made the looks likely appealing to kids and all as well as some of the impacts like an upfront close at the face like when Clooney says "because I'm a wild animal" hit a bit harder, but would it kill the man if he said "that box over by an inch more"? Wonderful and rememberable movie, all the same.

I still haven't seen Fantastic Mr Fox or Isle of Dogs but I had this eye opening experience of changing my entire perception of an artist's work with Grand Budapest Hotel. Life Aquatic was my first Wes Anderson film and Moonrise Kingdom was my second. I have seen a lot of his stuff over the years, but when I saw Grand Budapest Hotel, I had to go back and rewatch everything, had to watch commentary on everything, had to listen to other people talk about his process and vision. I always knew that I liked Wes's work, but I never really understood why. His style is basically pure gestalt and as someone that went to a very high level art school, that means the world to me.

I don’t think my dad has seen any of Wes Anderson’s movies but I remember how when I was at the movie theater with him there was a poster for Isle Of Dogs and he was just captivated by it. The moment he saw it he said he had to see that movie and he usually doesn’t get that interested in a movie from the poster alone so that really says something about it. (also no I don’t know if he’s actually seen IOD but if he hasn’t cause you know life, I think he still has a big interest in it)

I remember when my brother and I first watched this film on a plane. We were both fans of the original book and were really intrigued by a film adaptation. When we saw it for ourselves we were absolutely dumbfounded - it was SO bizarre and unlike anything we'd ever seen before. I honestly didn't know what to think of it other than it was so hilariously weird. I've grown to appreciate it a lot more now as an adult, there really isn't any other animated film like it (even Isle of Dogs doesn't quite capture the same tone and humor, though it was still good). Just remembering any quote from this film makes me crack up.

I knew one of the animators who worked on this - according to him, the hair movement thing was a very conscious decision (my friend was complaining about it, saying he thought it'd look bad). Also, apparently Anderson was directing it from France, having dailies sent over to him (though my friend didn't say if it was over the internet or snail-mail).
