I have quite a lot of fluorite in my collection, I'm particularly fond of the green tones and wear them most as earrings. Thank you for the wonderful video!
The colours in Fluorite are so unique within the world of gems. I wish it was a easier gem to cut and polish, else it would be right up there with the favourites of gem cutters. Cheers
I have a glorious green diamonds and I don't know about the value of glorious diamonds this type of diamonds I get frome sum of old wearst lady watch morthen 100pic
Oh and its a YES from me for another of your great video of fluorite cutting (:
Thanks again!
I purchased some nice Blue Fluorite crystals from eBay a year ago or so. I put one nice piece in my cabinet (collection) and saved 2 big chunks for faceting. Knowing that it is soft and has multiple cleavage plains and because I've heard it can be finicky to polish, I have not yet found the nerve to start cutting it yet. But now that I have a full 12 months of faceting under my belt, I think I have the confidence to at least give it a try, without having great expectations.
If it turns out well at all, it should be beautiful because of the hue of blue that it is.
Thanks for this upload Cliff. I'd gladly watch another episode of you cutting Fluorite again. I don't recall seeing any other episodes with Fluorite since I started following you last December.
I would avoid cutting too much Fluorite. It's too soft and scratches easily once faceted.
@@VintageTimeGems I agree. At best it's "evening wear". I still haven't found the nerve to attempt it yet (2 years after my original comment ... 4 years after you posted the video).
I am tempted to do it soon though. I do want the experience whether it's a good one or a bad one. There is much to be learned .. such as never doing it again likely. lol
I think it's good to experience as may types of material as possible just for the experience.
Thanks for all you do Cliff. :)
really like the gentle music and the calm way you present things. I would love to hear more : ) Maybe show us the video of you doing your competition one time, and then tell us about your approaches used and why and tell how you placed and how you feel about it : ) Keep Having Fun :D
I went to the gemstone museum in Longwood a few months ago. Maurie is quite the collector. Amazing specimens on display. I’m heading back when I win lotto 😁
It's a great day out. It's a amazing collection. The Longwood pub makes a great meal also.
Vintage Time will have to go check that out next time
Would one day love to see these gems in the finished product and the ultimate is to see it light up the final buyer's eye. That would be off the rickter scale. Love it.
Beautiful done. I like the design with the small table.
Thank you very much!
That is amazing work! Thank you for showing us. I, for one, would like to se you cut the Enghlish flurite. Pehaps you could show them in UV light during the reveal?
Very nice stone and a great job of cutting and polishing it. Thanks so much for another video.
Thanks RCF
After watching yours videos i want to buy faceting machine but i need also some books or something to read to improve my knowlege about faceting
So here my question can u make video about Books about faceting gems etc, explain diffrent types of cuts, and maybe some more details before u start cuting cuz those video mostly are the same :)
Ty for hard work and keep working !
Greatings from poland
Yes at some point I will. I have so many projects still to go. If there are gem clubs in Poland I would join one. You will learn so much. Cheer
Very nice gem! Also, could you include a rough estimate of the value before and after cutting? I know that can vary a lot, but it would give an idea for those of us not gemologists
It's always difficult doing a estimate. There are many factors the cost and rarity of the rough material. Also the time spent cutting a gem. As a baseline it will cost $30 a carat to cut most gems like Topaz, garnet, citrine amethysts.
@@VintageTimeGems Thanks for the comment, and great job you are doing!
You probably dont give a shit but does anyone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Carl Joshua Instablaster =)
@Caleb Danny i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I would very much like to see you do another piece of fluorite. Thanks.
Brilliant vid, as always.
Thanks Ian...Take care mate.
+Vintage Time fluoride rough stone price how much ? cutting stone price how much?
amazing, found a brilliant piece of raw flourite
Thanks for your video Cliff. Today I was having a lot of trouble polishing fluorite.
Can you make another video about it ?
Can you use other polishing materials instead of diamond (cerium oxide , tin oxide etc )
Why you are using 14000 diamond grit instead of 50k or 100k .
Hi cliff, i liked to watch you facet fluorite, and would like you to cut another from england, as this is my home country. Love your videos and see jaws
Thanks Tony. If I get the chance I would like to facet more gems from England. Cheers
Excellent video and reveal, Cliff. I'm a regular viewer of your videos, but missed this one. While looking through your list, I saw the title and immediately thought, "Oh my God"...not fluortie!!!" LOL
On the Love/Hate chart, please mark me down under "Hate".
Great job mate!!!!
Yep, the colours are great, but Fluorite is a real pain to facet. If Fluorite had a mohs hardness of 8-9 and no cleavage, it would be an elite gem.
I haven't been able to find a whole lot of resources showing what to do, but I've read that it's water soluble. The dust also contains flourine, something that's very toxic to us if ingested or taken in otherwise. Is grinding it and grinding it in water at that dangerous? I've been curious if sanding it while submerged in isopropyl alcohol would alleviate the issues.
Wish I learn how to do this. Pure art.
Never too old to learn new things!
Best way to learn is just do it. Try to join a gem club is a worth doing.
Dude! I didn’t realise you’re from Australia before!? That’s awesome. Where are you located?
North East Victoria near Shepparton.
Do a colab! Two of my favorite rock channels would be amazing to see!
I hope someday to find a gem cutter willing to cut some of my rough fluorite. I have some nice pieces and I hope they wouldn't cause a cutter too much trouble. I also have a lot that I have no idea if they could be cut or not. Any pointers on finding out what gems can and can't be cut?
Very nice could you tell me what you used for glue and what you used to remove it from the dop.
I use Devcon two part epoxy and heat the dop up with a small hand held blow torch to remove the dop.
Vintage Time thanks I thought the heat would have an affect on the fluorite . I am1/2 way through cutting one.
👏👏👏👏Bela joia bom vidio adorei
Hi! New to faceting here and I love your videos. Question... is the girdle a little thicker on this gem than usual? Or is that in my head? I ask because I'm a rockhound and have quite a large, gorgeous specimen of Arizona fluorite (where I'm located) and I'd love to try my hand at a faceting a piece of it. I'm wondering if you intentionally left the girdle slightly thicker than usual for strength purposes. Or did you just stick to the diagram and I'm going crazy? Lol
Btw, thank you for your videos. They've been immensely helpful in my journey of self-taught lapidary arts. With covid, I haven't been able to join a gem club. Everything's been TH-cam, books, and google! Xoxo
The girdle can be made thick or thin. On fluorite is chippy so a thick girdle is better.
Would love to see something done without the lapadiry wheel... For those of us that dosent have one...
sorry sir ... what is the name of the tool for rubbing stones and how much is it?
Ta um belo trabalho para bens
Show 👏👏👏 meu laik 👍
Hey Cliff, great video again. Just a question., you cut the first set of pavilion facets and polished, then went straight to the girdle facets and then back again to the pavilion for the rest of the facets. What was the reason for that particular order of cutting and polishing? Thank you
Probably no real reason. Most likely testing to see what polishes this type of material.
@@VintageTimeGems Thank you
Very nice faceting and the end product has awesome color.
Question: Why the small Table? Wouldn't a larger Table give more brilliance?
Yes it has small table. That was the size on the design. If I cut it down more I would have trimmed off some star facets. Shame that fluorite is not a real brilliant gem.
@@VintageTimeGems Thank you, Sir.

Linda de mais meu mega like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 Tmj
Is that flourite expensive
Linda pedra
where do you get the designs from? also what stone would you recommand for a beginner to cut
I've heard any type of quartz would be nice for a beginner! But then again I wouldn't know for sure either
Start cutting a round brilliant in Topaz. The design is a book I bought by Jeff Graham.
Boa tarde
I will try again do you do commissions and if so how do I contact you
I'm not doing commissions at the moment. Thanks for watching.
