No, it's straight up a mistranslation. They translated 精進の身, (which means in training, mentally) but they translated as 精進料理 (Shojin ryouri Buddhist vegetarian diet) because they use the same characters. While Shoujin no mi originally did come from Buddhist training, in modern times it doesn't mean that at all and became a general word for someone who is in mentality of training.
There is a Japanese entertainer that went through a similar thing and ended up dying, whether it's directly based on that or it's just a coincidence no one really knows, and when this episode airs the mother put out a complaint for reminding her of her daughter's tragedy and ironically people ends up harassing her like they didn't learn anything from the episode

I was also just thinking about when I first saw this I was yelling at the TV for Akane to put her phone down but I just realized she was probably ego surfing because her boss needed to make sure she had more of a presence.
You need to remember everyone else in the reality show are just high school teenagers but aqua deep down is still 30+ with much more experience. They might be worried about Akane but Aqua is the one who can immediately pick up and understand the changes in her mental state and what it could lead to

The funny thing is that, apparently, the works of Aka Akasaka (the creator of this show and Kaguya-sama) tend to be in many ways pretty dark, sad and depressing by nature most of the time. So Kaguya-sama is basically the oddball among his works in terms of writting style rather than the norm.
I like how they started the show with blatant disclaimer of 'work of fiction, not based on any real events' as a joke, yet it turned out into real legal a5$-cover disclaimer for when it really is the opposite and heavily inspired by real events.

So the reuse of the group name will not bring as much criticism as you would think for multiple reasons. #1 The group B-Komamchi continued on after Ai's death for a while but eventually decided to break up because she was the "glue" that held the group together. #2 It is actually common for a new group to inherit a previous groups name because that is justification to use the old songs, creating an eras of [insert band name here] thing. #3 Strawberry Productions would no doubt say that "Ruby loved Ai and was a massive fan who wanted to inherit the name in her memory, not to mention while they can't expose her being Ai's child they can actually say we were so busy that Ai actually was our babysitter most of the time so these kids spent the beginning of their lives thinking of Ai as a second mother, then they could bring up that Ai was watching the children on the day of her death something that no doubt was in the police report which would inspire some fans to think "If anyone will inherit and carry on her legacy it should be the kids she helped raise."

This episode was influenced by a true story. Hana Kimura, who was in a reality tv show like this one, got so much hate online that caused her to unfortunately commit s*icide. This episode was a bit controversial in Japan because the mother of Hana Kimura has criticized this episode on twitter/x commenting that the hate comment that akane reveived in the show was exactly or a little too similar to the hate comment Hana reveived. (FYI Hanna got hate for just yelling at the guy because she was mad her wrestling uniform that was precious to her was ruined by him. Apparently her mother reveived a mesage from her that the producer team had told her to slap him for the dramatic effect to the show but she couldn't brkng her self to do it)
Sad fact, the family of the actress who died and this episode was based on blasted the anime for this, saying it was disrespectful for them to use the death of their family member for fictional content. The studio's response was that this was taken directly from the manga, the source material. So they did notbing wrong in simply adapting the source material faithfully
