THINGS DON'T GO ACCORDING TO PLAN. I did **NOT** get lost climbing Goat Fell this time.

- The only time I've climbed Goat Fell, I managed to 'misplace' myself on the way down. No chance of that happening this time. I have my son (my sherpa on this expedition), so obviously something else could go wrong... and it did!

Blair took that in his stride, well done guys! I was going to say you ALWAYS give way to Scott Manson carrying a stolen keg of beer, and then they actually produce beers at the summit! Fantastic, and what a view up there! Well done guys, great view, great hike!
STEVE MARSH
Give way to people who are going down. You who is going up are well balanced stepped on the front of your feet looking up towards ground, a slip could only land you face down and you can quickly support yourself on your hands. You can't injure yourself much or slide back down. While people who are coming down are already fatigued, with knees trembling can slip easily and fall down on the back of their heads and continue to slide. So don't be selfish. Let the people who are doing the more dangerous part of the journey go first and give them a lot of space, because if they do fall, they could drag others down with them.
All credit to you both for doing that, you had perfect weather and what a beautiful view 😊 Thank you for taking us along, I'm too decrepit to manage something like that now, but it was so good to share your views of the scenery. I bet it took a while to recover!
It's great that you had your son Blair with you and that is very beautiful scenery out there with a magnificent view of the
beautiful countryside take care and thank you.☕👋🇬🇧
We enjoy all of your videos but it’s always good to see Blair in them. So chill. :) Incredible views at the top. My knees say “no” to hikes and hill climbing so I live vicariously through you.
I almost had a heart attack watching Scott almost having a heart attack!
Well done Scott & Blair :)
Great video. I spoke to you at Brodick pier that morning so good to see you had a great day out
So it seems you have inspired me somewhat, having never done any sort of hill climb of any significance (walking round Glasgow disnae count) a few days after watching your video, I made the decision I was gonna climb goatfell.
Been around 20 years since I last went to Arran, a shame really when I look out across to it every day walking the dog along Ayr beach.
I discovered in January that I’m autistic, always knew I was a bit wonky, but at 44 finding that out was a bit of a mind melting moment.
So this Wednesday I’ve booked the ferry across, I’ll climb goat fell, take in the sunset over the range, pitch my tent, and camp up there over night, getting up hopefully for a nice sunrise, before descending and catching the ferry back home.
I recon it’s just what my head needs after this past year, some splendid solitude, with beautiful scenery.
So thank you for inspiring this adventure, that marks the start of the rest of my life with greater understanding of myself ❤
Scott this video is great it’s lovely to see Blair again and well done on the hike
I love that you refer to Blair as your faithful sherpa
Always give way to people coming down as it gives you a chance to catch your breath
Aww Arran is my happy place but never been brave enough to tackle Goat Fell! Well done to you both! xxx
It's a doddle :)
I never knew Goat Fell was such a beautiful hike - and such a bloody difficult one! Great stuff. Congrats gents.
Blair scampering up Goatfell like a mountain goat. Xx
To be young and fit again
Midges out in force, “yes just a few”😂
Great vid...thanks !
Having been to the isle of arran with my Son , I'm very envious of you, lack of fitness ment I had no chance of hiking goatfel .
We did however have a good couple of nights wild camping in our tents ..... until a nasty storm set in and made life a little tough going
Great stuff we'll done
I'd always give way to people going up, so I can give my knees a rest!
Nice day, nice scenery and great hike. Hikers coming down generally have more momentum than those going up. So I tend to give way to the downhill-ers and come down like a runaway freight train coming down. 🤠 I don't think it really matters though.
Well done. Scott and Blair,.,.you,r 😮dad is a legend by the way....like he didn't, know that already!
A couple of years ago, following the sudden cancellation of our train from Fort William to Mallaig, we did manage to get the Calmac ferry to Rum delayed by 10 minutes so that we could catch it. Brilliant help from Calmac - I guess they don't make a habit of it though.
Incredible scenery, wow! I really want to visit, I hope next year. Thank you for the video
Beer Leffe it s from Belgium, hello from Belgium and god lock,i like yours videos .
Good to see Galaxy out in daylight and not on nebulous
Trail and road rules in Colorado are always yield to uphill traffic. As you noted, it's easier to get going down hill. Nice walk about!
What a duo! Good effort Scott and Blair.
Amazing Scott! I’ve done Goatfell twice both times in 2022 absolutely loved it my favourite mountain
A huge thank you for this video. I used to live by Glen Rosa. I am in West Cork now and it was heart warming to see this video.
That is a cracking path to the top and Sherpa Blair led a cracking pace - great views all round. Well done, guys!
Hi Scott, regarding your comments about etiquette I live in Hong Kong where people will board the train before you have exited and jump into the lift just the same or jump in and press the door close button without checking if anyone is behind them. So I fully understand your comments about giving way coming down a hill. Like you I am a boomer and would probably call this behaviour just plain rude but nowadays they would probably give it a fancy name like ADHD or OCD. Fortunately I retired in April so I am less exposed to these modern day practices. Enjoy the vlogs, thankyou. Keep 'em coming.
Beautifully filmed! Extra enjoyment because it was a Sottish trip and an impressive peak, almost a Munro, surely one of the highest Corbetts! Well done you!
I don't know if it was you or Steve Marsh/Alicja that clarified in an early vid that give way to those coming down due to the extra pressure on limbs a descent subjects you to
That looked a great walk for you & your Son Scott, beautiful views & the terrain didn't look too bad, the last part was definately the steepest & most challenging, think it's give way to uphill traffic to people & vehicles like you would in a car but I might be wrong, definately easier to give way coming down as opposed to going up ?
As always Scott a brilliant & entertaining video 👍
Another cracking video Scott. Awesome views from up there and the beer was well deserved.
Midges. Should take some Aeroguard with you and 'ave a good weekend!
Looks like a great place to twist an ankle. All those rocks. Impressed with the effort you gave.👍
Great video Scott, you and Blair did well. Don't you just love it when the system says No, at least you had the good fortune to find a sensible person who could work around it and get you the ferry tickets. 👍.
I was hoping you'd be on the Arran Blonde beer! One of my favourites. Having to book on the ferry is a bit of a pain, the shortage of ferries is becoming a national disgrace. Good film, thanks Scott.
Awesome work to you both. So many amazing views
Another great video and nice to see the views from the top.
Should try😂 walking up Roseberry topping from guisborough
Park at Hutton village walk up
You're not 5 minutes late for the ferry; you're three hours early for the next one.
I absolutely love this walk. Been up a few times and experienced cloud inversions - it's like being in heaven!
Absolutely loved this video scott...well done...this is our family holiday isle...you really must try and come back and climb coirein loch...
As for giving way on mountain...mmh.i would just stop and let folk by up or down but that's me.😊😊look forward to next video.
The minute you said migies I started itching, they really do stay in your memory.
Looks a like a good hike with great views. I'd want some trekking poles for that down part
This is the way you should climb a mountain, starting at sea level. The only Munro I've climbed, Ben More on Mull, has it's car park next to the beach. I get that starting in Nice to scale Mont Blanc might add a couple of weeks to the trek but you've got to do these things properly.
Great video, I did this myself on my channel and this video has reminded me to go back there again sometime soon! :)
Just back from Arran after conquering Goat Fell on Saturday. The rocky part near the top was definitely the hardest part for me.
Scott you and Blair deserve your your bottles of lager well done 👏
Easier to fall down then up so I'd give way to those going down
Wow what lovely scenery
Great video again Scott
I agree I think people coming down should give way to one’s going up
Give way to people coming down whenever possible.
It is a good excuse for a rest 😀
I walked up on my 40th last year and, being completely unfit, took a while to get to the top but my left knee gave way about 5 mins into decent! Took forever and did think about mountain rescue but persevered and had a torch etc so made it back to car at 10pm, 11 hours after starting, wow! Must get fitter…
Yes, there's something fishy about that hill, Scott. I reckon they're trying to jack it up so that it becomes a Munro, myself... If they've not added height, then they must have lowered the beach - and stretched it out a bit, on the way back...! Last time I was there, we took the route up through Glen Rosa - and then we had a brainwave, as it looked a bit steep up ahead... Yep, it was follow the dried-up course of the burn to gain height, then aim for the beleach. Only, there was a peat bog up at the top - and guess whose left leg disappeaered down the big hole... Fortunately, I was wearing zip-offs, so I was able to do that and leave most of the bog where I found it. But our energies were gone - my pal was 30 years my senior (not my dad), and so we just congratulated ourselves for what we'd achieved, and headed back down again. Looks like you guys chose a far better route - even if it could do with being dualled, in places!
Good effort guys. I feel like I've exercised now having watched that with my beer and fried egg sandwich 👍
Both parties should stop for a little rest and a chat because it’s nice to be sociable and meet new people. The party which needs a longer rest gives way.
Love this channel
😊
@9:18 Is the person lied down aright?
A can of beer is a lot lighter to carry up a hill than a bottle of beer is.
Great Video Scott
Excellent you should of got a beer from the Arran Brewery to drink at the summit, but Leffe is a good choice.
Well done to you both. Always have a plan B
Aw Scott!! What a waste of beer at the top ha ha.
Nae luck, Scott. Too much time fannying about at the top of Goat Fell scuppered your journey back across the Firth. Still, a cracking adventure all the same.
Beautiful isn't it, my nephew and his family live on Arran.❤x
Forgot to say well done 👏
I love a good long hike, I’ve got limitless energy I’m very good at hiking but I can’t carry stuff in a backpack I truly detest that, so it’s good that I don’t need supplies. If I’m going anywhere 20 mile plus I go with family or mates as I don’t have any sense of direction. I’m not able to go for long walks right now though, my og Labrador is getting too old for really long walks now she’s 12 and the new puppy is too young for long walks at just 11 weeks old, and no there’s no chance I’m walking anywhere without my Labradors.
You can't drink leffe straight from the bottle, it's sacrilege 😅
Nice view
Blair is so chilled! Yous two should do joint vids more!
I can see goat Fell from here, Bailleston station bridge,
Good choice of beer
Regarding giving way, I can see logic in both tbh - it's sometimes harder to stop going down than it is going up, however it's harder to get going again going up than it is going down. I'd probably give way if they looked more knackered than me! View looks great though, despite the midgies en route.
Giving way either way lets me have an extra wee rest…..
at least it s not blowing a Hollie
Blair is a good lad. He will love these memories in years to come - unfortunately i never had the chance to with my dad! Great video guys
I agree with you Scott. Give way to people walking 'up' 👍
And drinking Leffe out of a bottle is sacrilege! It has to be drank out of a glass, or a plastic tumbler if walking up Goat Fell 😄
Not good practice drinking out of bottles, but so many do it these days 🤔
Drank*
Is goat fell a munro? I suspect it's wee bit short
No only 2860 ft. A Corbet?
Good video, guys! The people coming down should give way!
Chatty Blair. Cant get a word in edge
I thought the coast guard was going to be needed to lift you down
hi scott my name is thomas you sould take your son blair on your walk s mate
i wonder why they named it goat fell? Poor goats! oh aye, if they fell doon it, so can we, careful!
Definitely those on the way down should give way to those on the way up. It's easier to build momentum going down than up. Imagine you're on your way up and got into a good stride and have to slow down to give way, then it would be more effort to get back into stride.
In Norwegian Goat Fell is called Geite Fjell 😀. Greetings from Norway
Did that goat fell or was he pushed off? Because there's Norway goats just fall off a mountain.
@@alex31245 Pushed off the cliff by the lemmings?
I would not want to go hill walking with your son - he has this annoying habit of making it look effortless, whilst I would be gasping for every breath and rapidly forging a sick note from my mother.
Coming down should definitely give way.
Too many people these days
People down should give way imo!
People coming down yeald to people going up😊
You missed the cheese shop!
Something tells me that your son is a better beer drinker than you.
steve marsh
People going up have the right of way. Same when you are driving a car.
Great scenery , good effort getting up to the top! Would have been nice to see the 'hawk' Blair was after, was wondering if it was a Sea Eagle or such like .
I give way to everyone I meet, up or down. Any excuse for a rest!!
2:54 Anyone who has never been to the West Coast of Scotland during ‘summer’, the midges can be a serious problem, and you have to take them into account, otherwise they can ruin your trip here!!
Yes I'd have planned for May/June when it's cooler and less humid. Perhaps that was when his previous trip was planned for.
lol creep at 9:18 whos that
09:09 man down
In the late 1940s when he was young my father and his brother in law (my uncle) decided to climb Goat Fell leaving their wiser partners in Brodick for the day. It took longer than they planned so they also missed the last ferry home. Being resourceful and rather stupid they stole a rowing boat and rowed back across the 13 miles to Ardrossan on the mainland. Being in the dark and because of the current and their lack of navigation they came ashore at Troon, about 9 miles south of their target. They then had to hitch a ride back to Ardrossan and were picked up by a milk delivery driver who gave them each a pint of milk. They actually rowed about 18 miles. My father used this as one of his most popular stories, and it was all true. I don’t know if the owner of the rowing boat ever got it back. 😅
This rather reminds me of a story my Grandfather told me about one night in the late 1940s when his rowing boat was stolen...
@@derektaylor2941 Could be the same thing then. I’ll say sorry on behalf of my dad, he’s no longer alive to apologise for himself !
@@Ian-Steele I'm not sure if you've been offended by my comment, and if so then I of course apologise, or whether you've just got a very dry sense of humour like mine.
It is little anecdotes like yours that make the comments section what it is, truth be told.
I know that stretch of water and truth be told, they did bloody well to survive it. I'm not sure many of us could row that far at all, let alone there.
@@derektaylor2941 Not offended at all Derek. It all happened years before I was born. I hope your grandfather got his boat back 😂
