Built my first watch today following one of your other videos. I had a blast! The seconds hand definitely gave me a hard time along with getting the stem cut down to size, but I’m pretty happy with it. Can’t wait to do it again.
A tip from how I saw someone else install hands: Stick the pointy end of the hand into the rodico and hold it from the side. You can brace your hand a little bit better on the table that way.
I built my first watch after watching one of your videos, I have built a few already (for myself, my family, my friends) and I enjoy doing it. I'd like to share the method I use to install the second hand - after struggling a lot doing as everyone else does: I put a tiny amount of Rodico on a pusher and stick the second hand on it, then I use a loupe to watch very closely as I put the hand on the pinion and press. I have greatly reduced the time required to install the second hand doing so.
Your videos inspired me to build my own watches! I ordered a load of parts and tools and am going to place an order for case and movement and hands when I’m back from holidays!
Hey bro, I’m a watchmaker myself, here’s a little tip for you to stop shaking all over the place. Take in a deep breath, exhale all of it out and hold. Don’t stress your body with air in your lungs, just hold in an empty lung, stops the trembling. This is also used by snipers 😂😂 cheers ❤😂
Inspired by the original explorer 2 video, I ordered the parts about a month ago and assembled my own watch and I have to say that I’ve been loving it so far. Can recommend to anyone thinking of building a watch themselves
I just recently built my first watch, thanks to you. The issue I have is mounting the second hand. I spent two hours on it but ultimately the hand broke. When doing your next build, would you mind explaining your process of mounting the second hand on NH35 in a little more detail?
I think I prefer the original color because I like watches with a darker dial, but since you’re going for making it more unique it’s definitely an improvement! Great video Elliot! :)
Elliot! Please, please stop butchering the back of those gorgeous dials when you file those redundant legs! I know you’re a perfectionist, start sticking some masking tape over the cut off leg stumps, they will poke through, you may need to carefully go around with some peg wood or similar, it will protect the back of the dial and allow you to file the left over stumps without scratching the back of the dial! You will thank me so much for this tip! I know you will go wild when you see the results after! Please keep making these videos I love them more than any other content you do :)
I broke a second hand when I tried it this way. Somebody suggested me putting a 1mm dab of rodico on the tip of the pusher and carefully sticking the hand on it perfectly in the middle. Then it is way easier to allign it by feel and you are not risking bending the hand itself
Did you have any magnification? It helps a lot, especially for movements with smaller pinions. I redialed a Miyota 2035 based watch (Quartz) and the seconds hand pinion is almost half as thick as an NH3x movement
I’ll say if this had a white or black dial like the OG explorers, you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference from a far glance. Love the updated green dial 👌🏼 I think I’m with you on the no logo.
The ONLY way I can get the second hand on QUICKLY and without wanting to toss the watch out my window with frustration is to .. 1)take a sewing needle, flip the second hand upside down and put the needle head in the second hand hole. 2) lightly pound the needle into the second hand hole with a small hammer. 3) After you widen the Second hand hole, it should be much easier to install your second hand. Good luck.
I imagine a logo placed on the rotor could be cool, for a more 'stealth' branding or fun little personal Easter egg. Anyway, great video as always, very inspiring.
Putting the seconds hand on, it might help knowing you don't have to align it with the other hands. With hacking movements it doesn't matter where you put on the seconds hand. On topic, very cool color mate!
Looks great man. You inspired me to do my first build which is going to be a gold submariner hulk, so thank you. I personally think a logo brings a nice balance to the dial, countering the text below toward 6 o’clock. I’d be interested to see a vid covering how to do this with a seller recommendation.
I was skeptical on that colour when first shown. But wow does that look way better than I imagined inside the watch. Goes to show you really need to complete your project before judging.
Do you know if you can "switch" bezels on these type of watch cases? As in a different bezel ring, not just removing the bezel insert. So it would be possible to rotate between colours for different occasions etc
Hey Eliott Do you still use everything from AliExpress or do you upgraded some equipment in the meantime? Like the tweezers or needle pens? And if so where do you think the upgrade is worth it or in general where could an upgrade be worth it? And what kind of flathead is that? From a watchmaker screwdriver set? Thanks 😊 I've always liked watches and now you have inspired me to build them myself aswell 😅
Love your videos bro. I have a question and this is to anyone who may know: Are the metal spring spacers you show from the back of the watch necessary on a build like this if you have the grey plastic spacer in place? I cannot find a solid answer on this. Thanks!
Very nice watch! Your videos made me get into the aliex watch scene! Just a question as I’m still learning about this stuff, but don’t you need a dial washer for this movement? Maybe there was one that I didn’t see here but I don’t think I did?
The Explorer BRG becomes the Explorer VD? I am a big fan of puce green, just rebuilt an Xbox Series controller using that green and I now have another "Battlefield" Xbox One S not in the grey or blue but the rather faded green looking a bit mountain dewy hehe My last Soviet watch I recently bought is a BRG dialled Slava "fridge" with only the "medical" white with red markings and a rare Sekonda in navy dial and white inner bezel to find but both are super rare so not holding me breath. I would quite happily dig out a lovely "fugly" Soviet for you to play with, I keep meaning to get at them to sort out Vince a couple projects and I have like 400+ waiting in my "to do" box. In the new year I am commissioning a chap stateside to make me a set of custom hands for my Zlatoust 60mm 700m dive watch, half a pound of solid brass and glass and 30mm lugs...

I bought all the parts you had linked from your first Explorer build. I made my own just like it. I love it so much

Why is Harry Potter telling me how to replace a dial in a watch?
Decided now to build my own and it will be a gmt nh34a. Thanks for your 2nd video.

Looks great. It took me 1.5 hours to get the seconds hand on….. on the first one I did took 15 min, lots of patience needed
Did you have any magnification? It helps a lot, especially for movements with smaller pinions. I redialed a Miyota 2035 based watch (Quartz) and the seconds hand pinion is almost half as thick as an NH3x movement
You should do a short video showing all the watches you built this year side by side .
My parcel has arrived from AliExpress, I'll be starting my project this weekend. Thanks for the info and the links.

DW makes a second hand installation tool that works a treat
That was actually pretty cool, you're for sure getting better as a watchmaker.

Should buy a QUAD 303 amplifier with that, would fit the color scheme.
That looks great Elliot. Top work
you could use pcbway to laser engrave a custom logo on your dials
I change the straps, dials and hands on my home-built watches quite a lot. Nothing very expensive and more fun than just buying a new watch.

Is dome glass a much better or considerably an upgrade? Do you also want led to build one?
This watch is so sick

No link for the dial? Please. 😮

Amazing watch!!! Is the case 40mm?
Did you inset the spring washer under the dial? You should have received one with the NH34 movement.
Your videos are enjoyable. Keep up the good work.
Just bought the titanium case off Ali express, building a field/ pilot watch. Appreciate the inspiration from all the vids

I bulit the Same in blue. Looks great
Love this video and that dial. Could you make an AliExpress cartier santos Watch ?
How much do your custom watches typically cost in the end?
did you get the lume to match this time?
that watch would look great with a brown leather strap - keep up the great content! :D

Build a homage watch of seiko presage with tmi ne57a movement
Great video, Great work again.
Outstanding video.I have to go with the MAMACOO, especially with that green dial as my favorite
Upgrading. My. Dream. Explorer. Watch
Elliot you should get a Casio royal and mod that out
Beautiful!
Why don’t you get some Retro Future dial logos made so you can brand them with your own touch?
how do you order the exact dimensions?
The case, dials, hands etc are specified for the NH35 family movement so are all compatible with one another.
4:40 NH38.
Hi Elliot, could you try to build a watch with chinese copy of Rolex movement 3235, but with case which doesn’t looks like Rolex?
links not working
Hi, what is the case size for this movement and dial?
Is it possible to make a chronograph watch from Ali Express?
I think it's time to built a watch with your custom logo on the dial.
Can you do painting a watch dials and other parts of it
Why not just get a little air pump to inflate your case back opener ball?
A good build
That green is so fucking beautiful
Do a review on modmetro gameboy
personally i like the old green one than this lighter green.
Please build a Daytona !
