So far my only issue with Morissette is that sometimes she takes on songs that i don't think suits her voice, but that is part of not having cemented your own position as an recording artist with shit tons of material, and not her ability..i think. Other than that i absolutely love the girl, and - as you say Dan - loking at her and the emotion she brings to a performance, draws you in. Morissette trying to be Regine: I don't think so. Have never gotten that feeling. ..but serious singers of course compare themselves to other great singers, and gets inspired by them. If anything, in the earlier years, Morissette tried her damnedest to be a Mariah Carey clone. She threw down some pretty damn good performances as a Mariah wanna be, but i do prefer The Artist Now Known As Morissette Amon ;)
Hmm.. this song, Diamante, actually suits her well. As well as songs that needs lot of belting, melismas and runs/riffs on all registers. She has a resonant voice that is good for belting, and her vocals are agile and so controlled that she should sing melismatic pieces, ala Against All Odds. What do you think are the songs that she sang that doesn't suit her? And those that do?
