Now, with this great reception that you've given me, I have to say that there was once upon a time that to be a Republican in this area of the country felt a little bit like being Gary Cooper in "High Noon'" - outnumbered in a big way. But I remember the story of a fellow who was running for office as a Republican. And he was in a rural area, and it wasn't known to be Republican. And he stopped by a farm to do some campaigning. And when the farmer heard he was a Republican, his jaw dropped, and he said, "Wait right here till I go get Ma. She's never seen a Republican before.'' So, he got her. And the candidate looked around for a podium from which to give his speech, and the only thing he could find was a pile of that stuff that Bess Truman took 35 years trying to get Harry to call fertilizer. So, he got up on the mound, and when they came back he gave his speech. And at the end of it, the farmer said, "That's the first time I ever heard a Republican speech.'' And the candidate said, "That's the first time I've ever given a Republican speech from a Democratic platform.''

I work at a nursing home with a number of dementia patients. We were having a joke hour where everyone told jokes. I told this one and they laughed harder than I’ve ever seen.
He & Nancy KNEW how to run a country! THEY worked well as a TEAM

Reagan was Pure Gold! My favorite is when Mondale and Reagan were in the debate and the moderator asked about age being an issue, to which Reagan responded with, " I am not going to make age an issue in this campaign and point out the youth and inexperience of my opponent to perform the job" (paraphrased) Even Mondale broke out laughing and afterwards knew he was never going to win!
I remember seeing that on tv. Raegan was the first president i voted for.Trump 2024. Raegan is watching down on him

@@OnusBones The Reagan family has come out and said that Ronald Reagan would be insulted by anyone making a comparison between him and Trump because Trump doesn't represent any of the values of Reagan. Furthermore, Trump made the maximum legal donation to Carter...not Reagan. Trump is the pile upon which Republicans speak from now...and it's far stinkier than the pile in this joke.

I always enjoyed when some reporter was asking him a loaded question, he would respond with, "well there you go again". They labeled Him the "teflon president", He confounded the best they could throw against Him.

Every single politician in Washington tries to find ways to line their pockets. Government and corruption go hand in hand, doesn't matter which side of the aisle you are on.
I remember those elections. Back when you didn't have to spend a week trying to figure out who won because the wins were so enormous.

Adds even more irony when you keep in mind Ronald "Dutch" Reagan was a Democrat during his time as a Hollywood actor. He became a Republican when running for governor in California in the 1960s.
Wish we could go back to the days when most people regardless of politics got along.

We were with him on both victory nights as my wife worked on his committee. He was unique having been in the entertainment industry the press both loved and hated him at the same time. I remember when Khrushchev gave a speech in an Iowa corn field during his visit to the US. The farmer was quoted as saying "now I bet I get a real big harvest after that". And we was denied entry to Disneyland due to security concerns.
At the same time as he was US president, in the UK we had Margaret Thatcher. Two towering political giants, the like of which I fear we may never see again.
