I am so scared to get into this game, just downloaded it yesterday after watching the entire first episode through and downloaded all plugins and such you use. Enjoy this series very much.
Absolutely obsessed with it. I’ve played it for many long hours. While I’ve scratched the itch for now I still keep it around just in case I get the heebie jeebies for it again.
Terraforming costs were ok in the original game, because you had to terraform quite a lot since you couldn't build so freely on uneven terrain. Also this depends on map choice as well, like if you have a mountain range with 15 height, you won't terraform that for cheap. This map is more or less even everywhere. (For example: where you connected mexico with arizona you had build the tracks horizontally on a slope, that you couldn't do in the original, and had to terraform all the way, costing probably millions at the time, and tens of millions with inflation later.)
Never build a station before building a town, the station will be tied to the wrong town even after renaming it and won't contribute to growth or town ratings
Okay, after some tinkering I understand it now. You're right, the stations tie to the wrong town for counting the delivery of Pax and other cargo when it comes to calculating the city's growth. Oof, I'll have to rebuild a lot of stations, but thanks for pointing this out.
It does take a while to cross the US by land, which is why middle america tends to get called 'flyover country'...at least partially. Another reason is coastal urbanites being a snobby bunch who believe anything outside of their hives is something like The Hills Have Eyes.
@@DDRJake Very comfy. I haven't done it myself but I know several that have, and watched a youtuber do it. But you're paying for an experience not so much the transport, so it's in the $2000 and up range.
2 hours in, 'Unload and leave empty', will make them 'leave empty' even if they are refitted, you simply need 'unload and refit'. but its probably fixed later
I was just playing in temperate climate and purposefully say to myself, "No moving passengers, pretend you need food first and stuff. Do not take the 'easy way out' and just move passengers and pretend they don't need materials, or goods of any kind." Then, I thought, what about game scripts? Like the one you're using, that says a town needs goods and certain types of goods. Yeah, I always wanted that in Sim City games more (the older ones anyway). Like in Sim City 4, you just plop a coal power plant and forget about it. Yeah, but I want to know the world's coal trade. The raw resources get ignored for focus on movement of Sims only. No, don't do that though, I want to know what the wheat is doing and the coal and everything. don't ignore that stuff. It's cool and what biome it is in and everything (like minecraft)
The music is all easily available online. I'm using a playlist of songs from the following games: Banished Train Valley 2 Poly Bridge 2 Stronghold Transport Tycoon The particular track you are after is from Poly Bridge 2. Happy listening!
Hey DDRJake, hope the move is going well. I haven't been able to watch in a while. I was wondering where you source your music from. I know a lot of the songs, but I can't find the right versions. Thanks for the great videos over the years. stay safe.
It's in the pinned comment and description of the 1st video, but here it is for you here: I am running the JGR Patch (found here: github.com/JGRennison/OpenTTD-patches) As well as the following mods which can be downloaded on the in-game online content downloader: Renewed Village Growth SHARK FIRS Road Hog Av9.8 Aircraft Iron Horse The map is based on Crude Earth 1.0 by gregcarlin.
I very like these long time Videos of openTTD. I let them run while aligning MTG Trading Cards by set, Color or Rarity... and still know what's going on in here ;-)
"If one were to take a train journey across the United States, what would their options be?" Er, if the rail network is anything to go by, I think the best option you can hope for is "being knifed in your sleep by a lobbyist for the car industry". =]
Cool video series *but* your layouts and designs are a dire disgusting obnoxious mess and it almost hurts enough to make me install again and do it properly. Almost. Still a cool series though. Git gud though

8 and a half hours?! Guess this is what i'm watching today!
Paint dry
perfect timing, i just finished the last one

Ultimately I think Roller Coaster Tycoon had costs balanced far better.
Very true i spend millions levelling the terrain and keeping the speed up for bigger profits
I'm getting a kick out of Arizona being a center of transportation.

Interesting, I had no idea it worked like that.
Hmm, but that can't be right: Greenland got its station before it got its town, and it grows like crazy.

Any plans on doing FIRS In a hot country economy? That or Steeltown. Extreme might be good for a punishment game.
It's funny how everyone thinks that Arizona is all hot desert. A lot of it is cold desert and mountains too. It snows in about 1/3 to 1/2 of Arizona.
You know, you CAN tunnel under rivers. I've been in many such tunnels, train and car
While we have no good trains for commuting, we do have great and expensive sleeper trains you can cross the country with to see all the scenery.
How expensive are we talking here, and how comfy?

"It can't be that bad, can it?", says someone who has never been to Iowa.
I'd recommend base costs mod, you can adjust terraforming costs.

Is the music playlist available somewhere? There's quite a few tracks I'd love to ID, but eg the one at 05:51:00 is driving me nuts

Interesting to look at, you can't print what mods you use?
(Or have I missed it completely?)

You could make small countries like Panama into small towns.. that would be cool
This is the plan, although Panama is regrettably just a little too small.

I missed it. Why does he love Greenland so much?
I have no real love for Greenland, but seeing that massive landmass makes me want to fill it with as much city as I can.
@@DDRJake Its not iberia thats the airline its called Spain
