This movie, in my opinion is a masterclass in tension building. Everytime I watch, I feel like I cant breathe until they all get on the train
Wow! This review is one of the best I've seen. You were very perceptive about all of the soldiers, most very young, trying to cope with the chaos and terror of the event. I've not seen Dunkirk (I'm going tonight) and I'm just surfing around looking at some reviews. Dunkirk is burnt into the British national memory and has become part of our language. We talk of the 'Dunkirk spirit' when we need to pull together, need resolve or tenacity, for example. It's also still part of our living history with veterans still alive today and many having a family member or knew of someone who was involved in Dunkirk. I've always found the story of the miracle of Dunkirk very moving and I'm so looking forward to seeing it. After the trauma of Dunkirk, Britain held it's breath waiting for the invasion and later that summer it was the turn of the RAF in the Battle of Britain.
Thanks!
After watching the movie now I want to look into the actual event. Do you know of a good place to start reading/watching about it?
Sandra Back how’d you like the movie
Colin Cann I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m glad I was aware of how The week The Day The Hour timeline mix together. It was a clever idea (bit too clever for me, lol)and I would have missed some great moments before working it out. The Spitfire aerial combat scenes were amazing. I thought it was the most tense film I had ever experienced , until I saw ‘1917’.😱😆
The scope, size and scale is beautifully crafted and for me this movie feels like a virtual reality ride. Not in a bad way but the fact that you feel like you are in this world.
Exactly. It's a visceral film. It takes you to a time and a place. Some have criticized it for not being character based enough, but I don't think a film being experiential rather than character based makes it inherently worse. It's just a different form of war storytelling.
My Ranking:
1. Inception
2. Memento
3. Dark Knight
4. The Prestige
5. Dark Knight Rises
6. Interstellar
7. Batman Begins
8. Insomnia
9. Following
i havent seen Dunkirk yet.
Vetro It’s just an opinion
Easily one of the best movies of the year.
Absolutely!
Great review! Been waiting on this one.
harry styles really held his own and stood out the entire time. i was very impressed:)
You are right about the film, the execution is great but I’m in the camp that wanted a bit more of a focus instead of just the event being covered. It felt like an hour 46 3rd act of a film. Technically speaking, outside of the script, it’s a master class in filmmaking. Sound editing is better than interstellar, the ongoing tension doesn’t let up and that’s great for how long the tension goes for. Effects and acting were very solid. If the writing were a bit more focused, it would be a perfect film imo
its funny to see Sean's Home Depot lit green screen beard hair
Dunkirk is a great movie! I saw it in 70mm and it was stunning. BUT I want to go back and see it in IMAX, I'm sure those aerial scenes are just mind-blowing in IMAX lol But the tension filled pace and editing and score were amazing. From that technical aspect, it is a nearly perfectly executed movie.
From a narrative standpoint I am someone that had a problem with the script. This is a historical event and I felt all history was sucked out from it. We weren't given anything about the actual events. And I do agree with him expertly putting you in these people's shoes and that did work VERY well. I just wanted to know more about the civilians in particular.
I'll give it 9.5 as well. I just got home from watching it and it is a very good movie!
My theater actually started to clap when the credits started to roll.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm going to see this on Saturday. Now I'm really excited for this.
It's good
I can't wait to go see this and have been waiting for it to come out.
+Ticia M it's very visceral and immersive. Some are criticizing it for not giving more historic context or giving the characters more dialogue. But the movie is about being there in the experience
Awesome review Sean, I feel Dunkirk is a amazingly made war movie and different, but it's still not a patch on Saving Private Ryan, the best war movie ever made. Have a amazing day😊👋!
I saw dunkirk last night and I thought it was a brilliantly made war movie. I liked that you saw the saw the same scenes from different perspectives. And I liked the music very epic and was used to help tell the story. I would give it 10 out of 10
My ranking: (haven't seen Insomnia, Following, or Interstellar)
1. Inception - 9.3
2. The Dark Knight - 9.3
3. Dunkirk - 9.0
4. Batman Begins - 8.9
5. Memento - 8.7
6. The Dark Knight Rises - 8.6
7. The Prestige - 8.5
I love this director. Inception's my second favorite film of all time and the cinematography and direction of his film is always spectacular. He's either my favorite or second favorite director along with David Fincher and Quentin Tarantino.
What’s your favorite movie
@@colincann7444 Idk probably Inception, The Departed, Se7en, or The Godfather. The Departed will be my favorite since it's most enjoyable but the others are objectively better IMO
Looking very red.
Really want to see the movie

+Harrison Ells thanks for the clarification.
Great review dude I thought the movie was good but I found it a little bit overrated and wanted a little bit more than what we got. I would give it a 4/5
+Ryan O'Toole yeah it seems to hit people differently
