    I love this fllm and have watched it many many times. The film world is poorer for the loss of Anthony Minghella.

    This movie belongs in a museum with a wing unto itself... can't believe he's gone and Phillip Seymour Hoffman too.

    I watch Talented Mr Ripley every 6 months. What a cast, what an atmosphere, what a movie... The age of the Auteur Director is over. It's so sad it breaks my heart.

      what a bizarre comment. scorsese, lynch, sorrentino, fincher, the coens, martin mcdonaugh, phoebe waller bridge, gaudagnino, tarintino, inarritu, cuaron, nolan, sofia coppolla, katherine bigelow, ben wheatley, jim jarmusch, jane campion... i mean we could keep this list going all day.

      @@bathasleftthecave The fact that they exist doesn't mean they make good movies anymore. Fincher excluded, he never messed up.

    take one scroll through instagram celeb culture and you can easily see the continual relevance of his question "is it better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody"

    Anthony Mingella is a brilliant film maker with the visual language of a poet. His way of weaving human stories with historical events and situation is so powerful, every film of his are bold statements against war. Love predominates in his work as does beauty and passion for life.

    I've said it before that Minghella's Talented Mr. Ripley is like a film that Hitchcock would have made if he was from modern times. It's an exquisite Thriller with a well painted storyline.. I didn't enjoy the original from the 60s very much though.

    It's funny how AM uses poetic language to describe the themes in his movie and the literal minded Rose jumps straight to criminal psychology, something hard, practical and based in reality.

    Matt Damon's portrayal of the very ambiguous, cunning and somewhat sympathetic villain Mr Tom Ripley. Was one of the first times where I actually wanted the villain to get away with his crimes. I think it's because the way that Matt portrays the character, he's actually the most likeable character in the entire movie. As he's surrounded by snobs and ungrateful privileged douchebags. Also 💯 Damon should have got the Academy Award Nomination for Best Actor!!

      No no everyone was very polite and nice to Tom hell even Dickie brought him to that last jazz festival that night and then outed Tom for who he really was. Dickies mistake was that he treated Tom to well.

    • @ChattinBoxingWYB
      @ChattinBoxingWYB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blondewriter99 Yes from my research. She intentionally made Tom Ripley a bad guy that you actually root for and want him to get away with his crimes. Hence why he commits crimes usually against other criminals and unlikeable rich snobs. No different from characters from gangsta movies. In gangster films, you tend to root for the gangster to win as long as he's only committing crimes against other gangsters and unlikeable characters.
