  • A walk from the tiny hamlet of Sperrin up the lonely high pass of Sperrin Road. Heading off road under glorious skies and frozen ground to the highest point of the Sperrins, Sawel Mountain, with breathtaking views across the whole of Ulster.
A detailed description of the route and GPS track can be found here: mountainviews.i...

Great footage of the Sperrins. A range I definitely need to visit.

Cheers Thomas👍 They don't have the grandeur, height or potential for different routes that the Mournes have, though I sort of like that - they are something different, are close by and I rarely see other people when walking there👍

Adrian, you picked an amazing place to start. I can recommend mountainviews.ie as a great resource to document and record and plan your journeys in the mountains of Ireland. Well done!

Cheers Gerry, looking at one of the Bluestacks next. Stumbled across mountainviews already, joined up and noticed your pieces there too. Don't think I could add much to your account of Sawel, but might do a piece froma beginners perspective.

Have been watching your fantastic videos over the last couple of days. Today, they inspired me to walk up Sawel from the Sperrin Road. My first time to go up any mountain, never mind 2000ft plus and two county tops! I think I'm hooked. Can't thank you enough.

I have to admit that I do not appreciate these mountains.I climbed these two peaks on 28-th of december in the beautiful winter scenery I started from the SPERRIN ROAD and finished.at TAMNAGH ROAD and had very long a walk back to the small car park close to the SPERRIN ROAD at darkness It was a great sunny day and a very long walk with breathtaking views from the summits of DART and SAWEL.

PATRICK ŻERKOWSKI Patrick, it sounds like you are starting to appreciate these mountains ;-) They are not the most spectacular but they change with the seasons and the weather and can be absolutely beautiful at any time of year.
