Apparently there was one event where the ravens did flee from the tower. Following the Blitz of WWII all but two of the ravens died of shock from the bombings. After the war ended, one of the remaining ravens, "Mabel" fled from the tower and a few weeks later, its mate "Gabe" flew away to find her leaving the tower empty. Since this event occurred at the time the British Empire was being dismantled in 1946, this supported the myth carried by the ravens of the tower
+Historical Royal Palaces I love the fact that the Ravens is are very much aware of the fact that they are very much the little stars of the show and are just strutting around saying like look at me doesn't the camera just love me ugh I'm such a natural in front of the camera I was born for this job in the spotlight I can just imagine them saying that to each other whilst playing to their adoring fans of people in the crowd omg rofl😂😂😂😂😄😄😹😹
Lucky to have visited the tower twice. You can lean on a rail and one might perch next to you a foot away as though you're invisible. The Ravens are the icing on the cake in this trip back in time.

I hope they stop clipping the wings so short they cannot fly, its sad to see. Instead they should train the ravens from hatchling. It is not hard to keep resident ravens, just feed them they will stick around, ravens obviously enjoy staying at the tower.
+verticalsmurf Kind of, but I doubt the ravens mind too much... they get plenty of good food, room to keep themselves amused over the day, and seem to be treated well.
You have to have served the royal armed services for 22 years first and have a good conduct medal and a rank (Warrant Officer?). The present Ravenmaster has to invite you onto his team and decides the birds will like you.
I love ravens, they're delightful birds and so smart and mischievous! If I go to the Tower of London one day, I will look forward to seeing them.
Ravens 'Crow' means Magic & now the Magic is for the Good of All that is - and so it is - Blessings.

alexiaNBC Or is it just a myth created as the empire was falling to sound cool? A far more likely exsplantion I think.
Wanderer628 the myths older than the empire, boy
The myth is older than the empire, but that doesn't mean anything?
@@kappatalist1014 Bruh who cares, its a good story
@@Wanderer628 I have looked for years about the multiple story of these ravens. The oldest story is the truth.
I am an American and just watched a show about these beautiful birds the other day. Wonderful!
Ravens are majestic birds! 😍
God bless them!
Ravens probably had feasts when they were killing people in the Towers. All those bits and pieces of human flesh from bad bloody executions from axes.
That man has a really awesome job :)
I was taken aback by just how smart these birds are, I think more people show appreciate an interesting aspect of British history

Long may they reign.
Very smart birds.
Can't wait to see them - it's been too long!
I heard in another special that they have a raven cemetary for the ravens that died of old age or some accident.
Очень красивые! Люблю врановых!
Very beautiful! I like to crow family!

😲😲😲😲😲 how amazing!!!!!!
Lovely, thanks
Isn't it cheating that their wings are clipped and they aren't there by choice?
+verticalsmurf Kind of, but I doubt the ravens mind too much... they get plenty of good food, room to keep themselves amused over the day, and seem to be treated well.
same as the British People, clipped wings
@@queenesther09 you doubt?! Have you studied birds for long?!
The tower and the Ravens-superb :)
2:31 Me with my breakfast of a morning 🤣
Who thought naming one of them Jim Crow was a good idea?
It was likely long before the Jim Crow laws became a thing.
We used to call him Blackie but he found it offensive.
if i were king id have those ravens removed immediately just to see what happens next ...
Mono audio only in the left channel? It makes my head hurt.
Damn I want to become a raven master too now. where do I send my application?

Jim Crow... That's a bad look
Now we know where the rule of six came from
Вороны там размножаются?
Corviknight IRL
The age of 44? Jesus
Jim crow died at 44
It goes deeper that that, it is steeped on witchcraft
their wings are clipped and can't fly.
Not so much anymore, which is perhaps why Merlina left the Tower this year and is presumed dead.
Two ravens were killed by a fox recently
Need to bring back the fox hunt...

So the Fox said nevermore, nevermore.

Good
Clipping wings is barbaric. You claim it doesn’t harm them but you force them to stay there so you take away their freedom. That’s hardly harmless.

The ravens in the towers are really spoilt and fat don’t ask me how I know that........... DONT
Why? Are you afraid you're wrong?
how sad
This is the type of nonsensical things that are part of ruling a Rich Country in 2019, you couldn't write it, it's madness, totally friggin loopy
*reddit moment*
I think it's just a fun bit of history, whether any of it is true or not. Traditions are important.
A 44 year old raven..Shit Sherlock..
Jennifer Paterson said that there's a lot of good in an old cock.
they guard the tower what a load of rubbish they must be so mad
