I am so happy to get these awesome classes from Oxford Online English. Thank you soooo muuuuuch. I liked Mr Oli's class most, his expression, explanation makes me easy to understand a topic
I genuinely want to thank you guys for helping me a lot with my spoken English. The content is of world-class level and you guys make it so simple to grab every bit of it. Thank you so much😊
@@Oxfordonlineenglish1hello,I am an English teacher(English is a second language to me).I'm wondering to ask if there are some job opportunities open for me there?
You emphasize in your video that the translation of certain modals into our own language is not a good idea and that there is no connection between the use of some modals like "must" ( 13:29 ) ; however, I am a native spanish speaker and have been an English teacher for a long time and I can tell you that you would be surprised how similar they behave. Debe estar enfermo (certainty or better assumption ) vs. Debes hacer tu tarea . ( obligation) ....exact same 2 functions as in Spanish !! ..and that is just one example... it goes on and on ...I could say that more than 80% of the times it is exactly the same thing... We also translate the 6 uses of "can " that you explained exactly the same way in Spanish!! It doesn´t change at all ! Thank you for your video. I liked your approach. For those of you who speak Spanish or want to learn Spanish ....don´t get so mixed up! Use your Spanish translation and you will see how easy it becomes... Bye!
It's great that you've found a helpful pattern of translation! This is not the case for other languages, as they are all quite different, but thank you for sharing and we're so glad you enjoyed the lesson!
That was a heck of a class!!!! Understood it like piece of cake. I've been surfing the internet for moral verbs and I found your video which was very helpful. Thanks
Great teaching . Thank you. This is one of the most thorough and well presented video I have seen during my foray into modal verbs this morning .. been watching TH-cam videos on Modal Verbs all morning. Whats more, the presentation style is also very enjoyable ... educating and entertaining. Thank you again
We have another lesson for modals in the past, Rosalba! You can see it here: www.oxfordonlineenglish.com/would-have-could-have-should-have. Hope this helps you!
Hii!!!! Thank you teachers, i love this I started learning English 3 months ago, And i would like to know if "could not have" can be used to criticize someone for something that they did For example : "You could not have done it" ( It means that the person did it and they shouldn't have done it ) Does it work ?? Or am I wrong Thank you for your answer !!
Hi Cintya. We're happy you enjoy the lessons. 'Could' expresses ability. If we say 'couldn't have' that means the person did not have the ability to do it. Hope this helps you! You can learn more in our other lessons, such as this one: www.oxfordonlineenglish.com/would-have-could-have-should-have.
This was really helpful to me. I have so much desires to learn or even at least improve my English grammar. However, It'll be more effective I guess if I could use it on my everyday activity by communicating with someone who is speaking english.
What's a wonderful lesson! Thank you OOE. Can I ask you a question? Is there any difference between: "I know that Olga asked for a transfer to Canada, and they wouldn't let her" and "they didn't let her"
Hi Giang. 'Wouldn't' means that it was a persistent action in the past. It was a refusal. 'Didn't means that it simply did not happen in the past. Hope this helps!
Thanks for watching! We have many other videos about modal verbs, for example here: th-cam.com/video/POFfLs0Uaio/w-d-xo.html Look around the channel and you can find several more!

Chris: 2.Should /Must I take my laptop computer with me ? Miranda : no Chris : I don't get a ticket for the train. I 3.should /have to stand all the way to Scotland. Miranda : 4. Hi! Firstly thank you so much!! You are amazing.. secondly: at the beginning of the video you said 'each line contains one modal verb'; but i didn't find could..where is it?
Thank you for the clear substantial explanation. I have a question, however. We used to learn "to be good at sth'. In your video you keep using "to be goos with sth". It is a change in the usage or has a different meaning?
Hi there. Good question. If you use 'good at' that means you have a talent in a particular area. For example: 'She is good at basketball.' Generally, using 'at' refers specifically to an activity. If you use 'good with' it means that you do well with certain things or people. For example, 'She is good with children,' or, 'He is good with animals,' or, 'They are good with computers.' In this situation, it means they do well interacting with these types of people or things.Generally, using 'with' refers to competency with a certain type of person or thing. Hope this helps you!
