    I think one of the things that most people don't get is that the reason to use wheel in Sim racing games isn't just because it is better suited for them or has a higher skill ceiling (although both are true)
    Another reason is that the feeling of playing a sim racing game with a wheel is that it is just so much more immersive than playing it with a controller or mouse
    your real life driving skills go more hand-in-hand with your in-game driving skills when a wheel is used, and you can improve a bit on both fronts while playing

    To get smooth steering on a controller, hold the left stick up/forward. That's your neutral. Keeping the stick pressed along the edge, move it left and right to turn.
    I've been playing Forza Horizon since the first game and only just started getting interested the sim side of things. For Forza Horizon 5, I have full SIM settings but I use a controller and I could not for the life of me achieve smooth steering and it made cars feel as if they were driving on ice and just sliding every single time I touched the steering, even just a little.
    I learned this trick from someone else, and suddenly I was steering with far more efficiency. Suddenly, I could make those fine tuned adjustments to my steering wheel on a controller.
    The other thing with controllers is making sure your deadzones are as open as possible without experiencing any drift. This includes the triggers as well as the sticks. Brakes, Accel, and Steering deadzones should all be opened up. This means setting deadzones as close to 0 as you can.

    If not using a steering wheel, no controller beats the good old Namco neGcon from the first Playstation! Especially the steering is way better than with a thumbstick!
    But due to some strange axis allignment, the neGcon is only compatible with some PC games, incl. AC.
    Here an old video with my modified neGcon "pro" controller: th-cam.com/video/VAmrUd-zb58/w-d-xo.html (pictures of this mod in the video description) 😁

    Looking at how you drive on the game controller and on the wheel. I wonder what your controller settings were. Looks to me the filtering settings isn't correct for you. The way you make steering corrections are completely different compared to driving on the wheel (weight distribution was completely ignored when driving on the controller). Also you mentioned there about fine adjustments. That would be the gamma settings, higher gamma allow for higher resolution input processing. Which affects everything else, from turning radius to turning speed. But especially for fine steering adjustment, the goal should be aiming for highest resolution input (speed gamma) with filtering that reflects how you normally able to flick the steering wheel around.
    With the right settings, I think you could easily get within 0.2 seconds on a controller. Tho I would rather drive with a wheel too. Just much easier and more natural thing. And most importantly: more fun.
    But playing racing games on controller has also somewhat became second nature since Gran Turismo in '97.

  • @SydGhosh
    @SydGhosh 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I feel like once you fine tune the controller settings you can get a pretty close time to the wheel (not that it's harder than asseto corsa since it's more of an arcade racer but I play F1 23 with no assists and a controller and my times are well above average.) Of course, you'll never match the feel of the wheel, and it's much harder to tell what the car is doing. F1 23 is at the end of the day built for controllers too, asseto corsa is not.
