      I am SO EXCITED to have found you! Just like you, I was impatient and learned Beethoven's Fur Elise without knowing any music theory. I had to dissect it one note at a time and it took me months. I would like to learn the why behind it instead of learning each thing individually. You're teaching people to fish vs feeding them (with their piano), and I appreciate that.❤

    i have this thing for learning a new instrument that worked with me very well with guitar, Its my third day playing piano and i’m loving it, I started on the guitar by playing note by note, and learning the hardest songs I could, like hotel California and its solo, took me a while but finally got it, and at some point I did so many notes over and over that I automatically learned name of chords, and now I can use Gtabs for example to learn new songs easily hut always started harder than I should
    with the piano I’m on my third day learning today, i’m about half way learning Clair de Lune (Slower but getting there) and I know at some point I will bottleneck and will need theory, but every time I started with theory I drop it and get bored, and again nobody is helping me but I really enjoy it!

  • @Glassandcandy
    @Glassandcandy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Actually some really good advice. The thing to keep in mind no matter what you do or try should always be “but does it sound good?” That’s what it always comes down to. You could spend years writing the most technical and harmonically intricate piece ever crafted but if it doesn’t sound good… what’s the point? Conversely there are songs by legendary artists like Lennon and Mcartney and BB King and Johnny Cash which, theoretically, are stupidly simple, but we still play them because they sound THAT GOOD.
    Always ask “does this sound good?”

  • @brothaNblue

    Facts. I’m a drummer all my life. Did some minor xylophone when I was a kid so I was somewhat familiar with notes on the piano. But drumming and the xylophone was the same. Learn songs first, then get to practicing developing your most comfortable technique to perform flawlessly. Everyone is different and can’t all be taught by some technique guru or music teacher. I started playing piano recently as I became visually impaired and needed a new hobby. Learned a song I really like within the first couple weeks to get somewhat comfortable.

    I LOVE THIS. Not mentioning caps. The first real song i learned when I got my first keyboard was Für Elise by Ludwig van Beethoven. Not necessarily the first one I chose to try, but the first one I chose to learn. I still don't fully understand Ludwigs mind. We will never understand another's mind. We can only express our minds to each other. That doesn't mean another will understand your mind.

      P.s. I only learned the interlude and went short on. Very good to me.

    Great advice mate. I am self taught. Year in I have learned many songs and wrote about 15. The weird thing is I have only recently started to learn the chord names. Major minor diminished ect . Without learning the chord names I have had to literally memorise individual keys, even chord in every song. I did it the hard way . This guy is spot on with what he says.

    Yup. One thing I learned as an early player is challenging myself to learn a whole song…step by step. The chord structure especially. As long as it took…. Then I’d learn the same song in a half step up & a half step lower in key. You learn a whole lot of how theory all ties together.

    Ofcourse you can learn music by watching tutorials and all but how do you guys think mozart and beethoven learned to play the piano, they didnt have youtube back then. It may sounds strange but when you play piano, you play it out your heart. It is something you feel

    I’ve got about 90% of “Echoes” Pink Floyd learned and down on keyboard. The verses are C#min, G#min, F#min, and G#maj. but the C# is inverted. Never knew about chord inversions and it literally blew my mind.
