It's very, very difficult to find a dermatologist who genuinely seems to care. There's only been one doctor I've found who has asked me if I've ever had a skin check. When I said "no," he didn't offer it. I had to request it.
I got fed up with the dermatologists phone tree and inconsistent scheduling. Every time I scheduled an appointment I would get a phone call a few weeks later telling me they needed to change it. When I would call back it would go to voicemail, and then it would become this game of phone tag. I got sick of it.

Then the biopsy nearly every single pigmented thing ($$$)-no matter how small or if Irma not clinically actionable. All this does is give the patient anxiety, a scar, and a larger bill.
My PC referred me to my dermatologist for a growth that turned out to be hyaluronic acid. The first visit she did a full skin check. Said we do this again in 6 months then once a year after that. At the 6 month check she found a basal cell on my right shoulder blade. It was cleanly excised and I’ve had no more in the last about 8 years I guess… my dermatologist is lovely and scheduling is never a problem.
They put it there. Too coincidental that just 6 months after you went there it happens to appear. Like when you go to a mechanic, and 6 months later your car starts giving you trouble after trouble
I have a dermatologist whose country of origin is Nigeria. This is in northern CA. She is excellent. At 71, I have been in a repair mode for almost two years. In the course of addressing concerns, another doctor, specializing in MHOs procedures, repaired the upper bridge of my nose. She was originally from Viet Nam....damn good!
I’ve been fortunate to have had two consecutive dermatologists who have kept on top on my basil cell carcinoma’s, I’ve been dealing with this for 30 years.

I went to a highly rated dermatologist in Bayside Queens for this reason. To have an annual exam to scan my body for skin cancer. And he did not check me the way I see these doctors checking their patients. He barely looked at me. He only looked at two spots that concerned me. He said they weren't cancer. Asked if I had any other concerns? I said, "No." And he left. It was literally a 5 min appointment. I was expecting for him to check my whole body. He didn't. I think I am going to look for a more thorough doctor next time. Or maybe the state of New York needs to tell dermatologists what an annual skin exam should include. Because I'm sure he charged my insurance the full price.
I developed a basal cell carcinoma at the end of last year on my ear. Had an in-office treatment to remove it, was conscious the whole time (really not as scary as that sounds) and it was successfully cleared up with a skin graft. I am glad I checked it out.
I am doomed, I have always had so many moles, freckles and bumps, and have not had a day clear of acne since I was 11, and now I am growing those lil harmless red bumps all over that show up in your 30s, and turns out new moles do just up and happen especially in your 30s, I check myself every so often but I just really feel like I'd never be able to tell a benign thing from a dangerous thing until a dangerous thing grew enough to really stand out, and the thing is by the time a dangerous mark is so clearly dangerous it could have become systemic
plenty of moles means your body is trying to get rid of acid that is poisoning it. so DONT eat/drink so much acid! go on an alkaline diet! eat mostly raw fruit n veggies! avoid sugar, alcohol, coffee, those are very very acidic! pork and dairy are highly inflammable too. make your diet mostly organic raw fruit n veggies, eat some starch, some meat.

Unfortunately sunscreen doesn’t work for everyone! I used 35 and 40 and still burned. I got to the point if I was outside for long periods I would have to wear pants and long shirts and a hat.
My father died of melanoma at age 76. The doctor couldn’t find a spot anywhere on his body but he had 4 black toenails. That was the sign. By the time he was diagnose it had metastasized into his bones and organs. Don’t ignore changes in the color of your nails.
I asked for a referral to a dermatologist in North Vancouver for a skin cancer check and was sent to a Persian doctor who was so ambivalent she didn't examine me at all, and gave me the sense I would not want her treating any skin condition I might have. I will have to ask for a new referral. It's scary that she doesn't take skin cancer seriously. I wonder how many patients she has sent away that actually have something brewing. I also wonder if she treated me this way because I'm not from her culture. 🇨🇦🤨
Yeah this is great but finding a dermatologist that actually gives a crap is hard. I made an appointment for a full body check because I have some weird bumps and after waiting 4 months I get a letter a week before the appointment that says my appointment was cancelled by the physician and I would need to reschedule for another time. I now am waiting another 4 months before I can get seen by someone else.

I had a basal cell cancer on my face near my nose . It started as a small flesh colored bump that didn't change for thirty years or more. Then all of a sudden it started itching. A year or so later it began to grow rapidly and bleed. I had it removed and have had no problems with it but there is a similar bump on the other side of my face that is starting to itch just like the other one did.

Anyways my friend was getting a spot on her nose froze over and over at the dermatologist every couple of months with nothing happening and she put the spray sun screen on it and it went away, canceling her dermatologist apt (they were mad). Told me to give it a try, so far it is healing more then ever, just started putting it on a couple times a day about 4 days ago and it is finally wanting to heal. You won't get the same treatment as Gov hochul so try the suncreen spray. I put it on my finger and then onto the nose, do not get in eyes, it stings. I'm not a doctor, just trying to help the folks that can't afford to pay hundreds at the dermatologist.
I had skin cancer surgery on my upper leg and also had a few other BCC spots that I was given a cream for. I should get checked again. It's been a long time. 🙁

When I was a kid I didn't wear sunscreen, in fact my mom enjoyed peeling my sunburns so I was kind of encouraged to get them. I'm much older now and do wear skin protection but it wouldn't surprise me if I develop skin cancer. Though I have a few other issues that may take me out first.
Dermatologist told me it was probably from tanning booths I got basal cell carcinoma. But who knows, I use to lay out in the sun when in my 20s, now I am 62.
I am 78 and have had 17 removed at the moment i have just been checked out and there are another 5 to be removed those injections certainly are painful as they say thats life

Yes. It’s a subtype of melanoma that people of color can develop on the hands and feet, called “acral lentiginous melanoma”. It’s not always related to sun damage-there can be mutated genes. In fact, melanoma is not limited to the skin or sun exposed sites. It can develop in the nasal cavity, organs, genital region. I have seen and diagnosed it.

In Canada our free healthcare takes care of this………..as long as you don’t mind the long wait. I seen a dermatologist once, appointment took 11 months to get, then took 6 months to get a biopsy of the findings….. luckily it’s nothing. Imagine if it wasn’t. Free healthcare isn’t free.

Maybe it was just seborrheic keratosis. Unsightly, but benign, so removal is considered a cosmetic procedure.

I worked with a woman whose daughter died at 22 of skin cancer - 6 months after finding a tiny 5mm melanoma on her shoulder. Super sad.

Make an appointment with a dermatologist. You can go in for annual skin check ups.

It was a spot under the nail of his big toe. Drs dismissed it as a sports injury.
