यह वीडियो प्रयागराज में प्रतिवर्ष लगने वाले माघ मेले और वहां एक माह तक कल्पवास करने वालों को समर्पित है।
इस पर्व के महत्व को समझने के लिए सबसे पहले समझें कि कल्पवास का अर्थ क्या होता है। इसका मतलब है एक माह तक संगम के तट पर रहते हुए वेदाध्ययन और ध्यान पूजा करना। इन दिनों प्रयागराज में कुम्भ मेले का आरंभ भी हो चुका है एेसे में में कल्पवास का महत्व अत्यधिक बढ़ गया है। कल्पवास पौष माह के 11वें दिन से प्रारंभ होकर माघ माह के 12वें दिन तक किया जाता है। एेसी मान्यता है कि सूर्य के मकर राशि में प्रवेश करने के साथ शुरू होने वाले एक मास के कल्पवास से एक कल्प जो ब्रह्मा के एक दिन के बराबर होता है जितना पुण्य मिलता है।
"Magh Mela is an important bathing festival celebrated in the month of Magh and is held every 12 years during the full moon day. Saints and 'Kalpwasis' perform various rituals during the important period of Magh. Millions of devotees spend over a month on the banks of Ganga performing Kalpwas during the Magh Mela. People perform Kalpwas (Kalp- period equal to number of years in four yugs) that is take a holy dip in the river Ganga at sunrise and offer prayers to the Sun God. This done in order attain Moksha (overcome sins from previous birth) in the quest of eternal truth, and to attain highest form of spirituality.
