    So cool. You might be able to limit some of the static issues with running some ground wires to each panel to give the static somewhere else to go. Single mode fiber optic cables are cheap and can replace the wires between the panels by using LEDs and Photo sensors to turn a bit high or low.

      It would be a very fun project though. There are so many creative elements in an escape room (story telling, room design, electronics) that it would be fun to do one with a group of creative people. This could also be a great project to do with young people to teach them all kinds of skills in a more fun and practical way.

    I love it! I did one myself for my birthday and also used Arduinos and a lot of sensors and actuators. It's truly amazing what can be built quite easily with some imagination. I really love your story theme and all attention to the scenery. Keep up the good work with your helpful tutorials. Learned a great deal from you so far.

    Try using a differential signal for each of the "Ok" high signals. It should reject antenna noise quite well.
    See rs-422 or rs-485 protocol.
    You would need a single ended to differential converter to change the arduino high signal to differential. And then use a differential to single ended receiver at the "next station".
    It's a little over kill but will 100% fix your antenna noise problem.
    Static injection into the boards however will need insulation which is easy to fix.
    Or you could try using cat5 Ethernet cable with twisted pairs and see if that helps first for your ok signals

    Andrei, your solutions are very good! One thing I discovered here in Brazil, to use several voltmeters as you did, was to use a PCA 9685 module, which is normally used to control 16 servo motors with only one Arduino. As the signal output from the servos is in PWM, I discover that I could connect each voltmeter to a channel. With that, you only use I2C and can use a bunch of voltmeters. It is worth mentioning that you can cascade these modules and further increase the amount of voltmeters used.

    Thanks for your very useful tips! I plan on creating an escape room one day (concept already done on paper) and it really helps to know the kind of mistakes that should be avoided with the arduino. Also very good to know that the complexity is not so high! It can be discouraging at first so I appreciate all the information provided in this video.     I'm someone allergic to any kind of games but I think this was the most interesting video I've seen on your channel. Fascinating to see familiar looking modules made use of in a very polished out manner. I also like the whole premise of the video how you can turn your electronics hobby into a business (naturally with a lot of work). I've understood using Arduinos is very common in museum/exhibit installations but this was the first tour and overview of how it could be done. You've got a good imagination and a lot of passion!

    I've been thinking about doing this. The big difference here is I was thinking about using a wireless system such as rf or wifi to connect to a central computer with tv screen. That central station would be a mega backed with a visual basic program to track players progress and suggest taking hints if they fall behind.
    Then have an sql back end track everything.

    Ground all metal surfaces to the power system ground. Connect the Arduino ground/common through a 1M resistor to the power system ground, but ONLY do so at one point, back at the power supply. No more static shock, safer in case of an internal fault that could otherwise make a metal panel have high voltage on it, and it should reduce your noise problems. Use twisted pair to run signals. Look into using RS-232 or RS-485 to run signals around. 5V TTL logic level serial isn't made to run very far.

    when game begins, have a DIVING Diving sequence and make a large servo
    driven depth gauge to show descending
    have a port window that you must lock before you can dive
    use a cheap tablet with a python program to calculate something
    wireless doorbell
    hdmi monitor run by raspberry pi with keyboard
    cheap digital picture frames...maybe in periscope
    large clock for time remaining in game

    Interesting project. One suggestion for doubling or tripling the pins on a limited micro is to use shift registers. No more expensive Megas. This is also a great way to control multiple LEDs.

    Have you used your pcb design here ?
    Nano is easy and you can solder to a virgin pcb (that's why I use it a lot), but how do you connect the mega, if you don't want the cables to come loose?
    Like all the others before me asked, instead of ‏daisy chain you could use radio moudle, why didn't you?

    You forgot to explain the most important part of the escape room; the theme and the actual puzzles BEFORE you start on a buying spree to get Arduinos, displays, switches and power supplies ;-)
    It is good to know about the interference from the panels and cables (as you are literally creating antennas ;-)
    Please emphasize the emergency exit... people need to be able to get out quickly. You wouldn't want to be in the situation when someone starts to panic and it takes some time to actually open the door to let them out.
    Anyway, interesting look at this. Most of the escape rooms I have been in were more mechanical, physical or logical puzzles... not involving electronics. And those that did did simple logic, like switches in a postion before they activated.

    Great project! Maybe RS-485 could be a viable option for inter panel communication. So you could monitor the people inside and their progress in the game and also start some actions from outside. Good grounding of metal panels is never a bad idea like many others said...

    This is so cool man! I have done some work like this too, and it was so much fun (also pretty stressful sometimes because the whole experience is your responsibility but still very fun). I did a small team-building one called "The Ganymede Incident" where people worked together to fix their spaceship. And I did another massive one for the PanAm games called "Power To Play" that was sponsored by Chevrolet to show off the batteries of the Volt. You can be so creative. These days I run a Makerspace.

      In addition to the great tips in the video, I would also suggest getting some boards like Leonardo that work as HID devices. These can be used to control software that normally could not be automated. For example I used this to trigger screen recording when a racecar passed a sensor so the person could see their experience on TH-cam. It's an easy trick with a lot of uses. Andreas Speis just did a video about that.

      And regarding the series problem mentioned, you can plan each module of the experience to run independently but managed by an SBC, then network all the SBC to a server. This is helpful also for being able to push software updates without having to shut down the experience. (Plus you can then do other cool stuff with the network, like streaming video from a Raspicam to monitors, etc.)

    I think you can control multiple lcd modules(more than 2) with a single arduino since you can manually change the I2C address by changing the resistor configuration of the lcd I2C module. Also in the artillery panel you could have used individually addressable led.

    Why should you use TVS Diode or Ground the panel to earth ?? To avoid static electricity

      The panels are grounded but is doesn't really Help. Actually sometimes static jumps from players clothes...

    Cool project! How do you connect arduinos that are far away each other ? How far can be a module "sensor"connected to arduino? Thankyou
