    I have some automations that trigger when I arrive home and when I leave home. I use zone based triggers for my Android phone at first, but soon realized that wasn't enough, as it would take some time to register that I left home or arrived home. So then I set the app to use high precision location while I'm connected to the Bluetooth stereo in my car (because high precision location is too battery intensive for constant use) which worked well 90% of the time, but the other 10% of the time when I'm driving a different car without a Bluetooth stereo I still had issues. So I modified the automations to also trigger when my phone connects to or disconnects from my home WiFi network, which seems to be working great so far.

    Awesome video Grayson. Not knowing the state information of zones made my life difficult trying to make opening my gate and garage when i was coming home. finally you sorted me out.
    Just a note, your "Home" zone is capitalised, yet the not_home and home state didnt reflect this in the automation configuration. You mentioned "Work" requires capitalisation for it to match. Bit confusing. In the end i just made everything lowercase to ensure I got the correct structure for the automation.

    Awesome video, helped me solve an issue I was having for days. Question: How do you know the available states and entity can be checked for? In your example “home” and “not_home”. I struggled trying to get it to work for days before finding your video. I was using “home” and “away” because that’s what the gauge shows on the dashboard. Where is this info kept so I can look up for other entities?

    Hi Grayson. I am impressed and have recommended your channel in a Danish HA group. It is perfect for beginners.
    Just one question. Why do you not use Zone-trigger instead of the state?

  • @marikgl
    @marikgl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, very informative video. I have a question. Is there an option to make multiple person trigger? I would like to make an automation of closing all lights and windows when all homies are out based on their mobile phones. Cheers.

    • @GraysonAdams
      @GraysonAdams  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      marikgl Yes. You would make a “group” in your groups.yaml file consisting of the people you want to collectively track. Then you would trigger based on the group’s state going to “not_home”. There should be documentation on this if you Google “home assistant groups”

    howdy, just watched your video and i did also watch other video's from you about this topic like the one where you set up for location based tracking. All my info is the way you said in your video that it should be but the state of me stays on home. Even when i'm not home. I did manually set my iphone state to home, could that be the problem? I wish to make automations that turn my lights on after sunset when i'm home but turn everything off or not turning them on (which would be the same i quess) when i'm not home. But because of the state of my phone it always says i'm home. How can i fix this? I do use the trial version of the nasa busa stuff.

    hello grayson
    great job...just one question
    when I create a "neighborhood"-zone and I enter my "home"-zone my device-tracker status keeps saying I'm in the neighborhood zone and not at home.... It means that I can't trigger any automation leaving my "home"-zone.

    • @liuesstuo9413
      @liuesstuo9413 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure that the neighborhood zone is passive ”Passive zones are hidden in the frontend and are not used as location for device trackers. This is useful if you just want to use it for automations.” and use the zone trigger instead of the state trigger.

      Okay, you would need a device that can detect motion. If you use Philips Hue, consider one of their motion sensors at Best Buy. They integrate into Home Assistant.

    • @GraysonAdams
      @GraysonAdams  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay so you would create an automation that says:
      Trigger: binary_switch to “on”
      Condition 1: person is “home”
      Condition 2: Value template (don’t copy this, type it out, otherwise you’ll get an error)
      {{ as_timestamp(state_attr(“automation.THIS_AUTOMATION_NAME”, “last_triggered”)) < as_timestamp(state_attr(“person.YOUR_NAME”, “last_updated”)) }}
      Action: turn on lights
