I love the “your weakness is copper? REALLY?” Joke they made. The earth’s core is made of copper, just like kryptonite is the core of Krypton, Superman’s weakness
Yeah, they did a few jokes like that. Another notable joke is Metro Man's song where he says he has eyes that can see through lead, which is famously the only thing Superman can't see through.
Hal/Titan/Tighten is a good deconstruction of the difference between a Good Guy and a "nice guy". He had all the makings of the underdog turned savior - but you can never judge a book by its cover. Just because someone seems humble and grounded while down doesn't guarantee they won't turn out to be a total monster once they gain some leverage.
No, actually, you could tell something was a bit off with Hal even before he gets powers. Granted you might think he’s still relatively harmless or wouldn’t go so VERY far wrong as he did, but the signs were there. “Humble” and “grounded” are two words that i would not say apply to Hal, at any time.
It's slowly becoming a cult favorite. What hurt it was releasing more or less opposite Despicable Me. They're both great movies with similar concepts, but DM simply appealed to a broader market.
Want a gem even more forgotten? "Dofus: Julith", probably one of the best animated movie of all time, not lying. The only reason why it's unpopular is because it's french. Most people don't even know that French are amazing at animated shows 🤣 Arcane (yep, the LoL serie), Star Racers, Mystery Martin, Totally Spies, Code Lyoko, Miraculous Lady Bug, Galactik Football, Wakfu, Dragon Hunters, Once Upon a Time Man/Life,...
I love this movie because it's more mature than it looks: both Megamind and Metroman are in the grey spectrum and there is no clear answer with these guys (however, Metroman is darker). My favourite part is the "good guy" study in Hal, very educative
He wasn't changing because of Roxanne per say. He never got to experience what it's like to be "normal" and not forced into a role created by others expectations. While he was disguised around Roxanne he had a kind of freedom to reinvent himself as a person that he never had before. Meaning he could experience what life could've been like and what kind of person he could've been instead, if he had been given the opportunity to live a different kind of life with a different start than the life he's been living. Due to being "type-casted" by everyone else, he was deprived of the opportunity to truly explore being "good" at school. If he hadn't been judged before people could get to know him, he might've been able to make a friend beyond Minion that could've been a positive influence on him. In real life a baby would never be allowed to remain in prison so he would've probably been handed over to different authorities(possibly a lab as test subject), but this being fiction it can get away with it. That said, a different start in his life on Earth would've likely changed who he could've grown up to be. The movie just used the character Roxanne as a convenient means of providing Megamind with a positive influence that could broaden his awareness of new possibilities.
This movie is DreamWorks' answer to the question "what would happen if Lex Luthor killed Superman?" Also, I recommend watching"How to Train Your Dragon."
I think it's actually closer to "What if Joker killed Batman", because Lex at least has a real goal outside of "defeat the superhero" (even if I don't know what exactly it is). Joker, on the other hand, is almost entirely defined by his rivalry with Batman. Also, I agree with that recommendation.
@@MattTOB618 while I agree with your sentiment my statement was pulled from one of the DVD extras where they explained some of their process behind creating this movie.
@@MattTOB618 Except that’s the thing; Luthor’s non-Superman goal is _vague_ . iirc, All-Star Superman addresses what would come after, and it amounts to something that he absolutely could have achieved without dealing with Superman at all. So to say, his obsession with Superman is equivalent to Joker’s obsession with Batman, but where Joker honestly has nothing else going on, Lex is ignoring what he ‘can’ do in favor of what he ‘wants to’ do.

Loved your reaction to the movie, I always loved this one. I never got how it didn't get as much attention, a lot of people say it was copying "Despiable Me", though it's so different and orignal, lol. The only thing the two movies has in common was both were from a villians perspective, both were inventors, and both end up changing. Megamind has great style, and I liked how they used the different music for the film. It also plays on "Hero's being more than heros", and "What would Joker do without Batman?" question. Also the "What happens if you make an incel/'nice guy' the superhero?" Also, the reason he goes back to "prison" when he says he's going home is because it literally was his home. It's hard to get, but in this movie universe he just dropped in there, and they just decided he'd stay there and get raised.
a much better film than despicable me and hit the "dissecting super hero tropes" wave a good ten years before everyone else in Hollywood did. Also hands down one of the best soundtracks of any movie

It's great to see, cause hollywood is full of "nice guy is misunderstood and the pretty girl is so shallow for not liking him back" stories that reward the guy for pestering and not respecting boundaries. It's great to see this subversion, and it makes sense why it's become such a cult classic lately! As for MetroMan, I think it's nuanced. Just because he *can* fight Megamind doesn't mean he's morally obligated to... but at the same time, leaving the city to fend for itself was arguably selfish... then again, he chose to follow his own passion and be the person he wants to be, rather than who he's expected to be or was raised to be -- and isn't that the thesis of this movie? "Destiny is not the path chosen for us, but the path we choose for ourselves." It's an interesting thing to think about, and I'm glad the movie didn't give us a black and white answer on that :)
Been so long since I watched this that i forgot about Titan and remembered it as "Metroman turned evil and was stopped by Megamind". To what you guys were talking about. I honestly have zero problems with Metroman staying away. He owed nobody anything, Roxanne yelling at him and throwing things at him (that ***** better pay for what she broke) is nothing more than selfishness and entitlement (She does not own him and has no rights to tell him what to do).
