Great to see you using this old cool film camera. I have owned a few of them - the silver button ones are older than the black shutter button ones. The lens on these cameras (a Zuiko f2.8) is really lovely despite being a point and shoot and I love the fact that I don't have to worry about settings other than zone focus. This is actually a blessing as far as I am concerned for street shots. Even Leica M users will frequently zone focus anyway (albeit at a known aperture) despite the highly accurate focussing mechanism on these expensive cameras. On auto mode, the camera won't let you take a picture if it feels it is too dark, which is helpful but sometimes irritating, unless you switch out of auto. I believe there are only two different shutter speeds, but I may need to check on that. For the price and build quality, they are beautiful cameras and that era could teach the current digital age a thing or two about quality production. They are however getting old and the light meters may cease to work or the shutter will jam on some as has happened on a couple of mine. Your subscribers may also like to know that there is a gentleman called Trip Man who refurbishes and sells these online.
3:22, 3:25 the photo is much better tan the reality!!! That´s really incredible... In a sunny day with Kodak ISO 400??? I just can´t believe it... I used to take photos with this camera in past and it really caught the beautiful colours... Ihave a few photos taken by this camere here with me... I should have this camera somewhere at home... I hope I will find it... If not, I will be really pissed off. Petr from Czech, Europe...
you all prolly dont care but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the login password. I love any assistance you can give me.
Like shots around VW camper van and groom just getting in drivers door really sharp.... Dont forget symbols or zone focus is like hyper focal focus.. and that's a pro term for sure... Like the blog mate..... Good job.....
There's a reason these things were in production for as long as they were - quality build and a lens far sharper than it had a right to be on a snapshot camera. People my age will remember the TV ads featuring David Bailey ('who's he?') advertising this camera. Might have been pointed out already but the shutter release button gives away whether this is an early example or later, the earlier models have a chrome button, the later ones (from about 1975 I think) black plastic. Also - its design allows only 1/40th or 1/200th second shutter speeds, no in-betweens. Got one of these myself and use it occasionally, I noted you set the ISO to 2/3 over the film speed so I might try that myself next time out.
I have one of these, it was given to me by a friend who's father was in the SAS, and he shot with it in the Falklands War, i have never used it but i have gone through all the functions, it seems to be working ok, so i am going to buy film for it tomorrow. Great video mate.
It really isnt, right now. BUT. It will be. Part of the fun of watching Garth's videos, at least for me, is seeing how he improves with each one, and I love that.
great camera, fantastic town... thats coming from a mancunian :) .. it is very interesting comparing the output of the GoPro to the Ultramax in the trip. The colours are so much better on film...
Excellent video great little camera I have had one for about 30 years and take it out occasionally instead of my canon ds1 . Very sharp lens and no batteries to worry about ideal out and about camera.
The Olympus Trip probably did more to popularise the 35mm film format with the general public than any other camera, in the U.K. at least. Before this, the format was mainly limited to pro's and fairly serious enthusiasts, with the mass market being dominated by instamatics. The Trip, with it's ease of use and excellent adverts featuring David Bailey and George Cole, changed all that. My father had one of these, which I borrowed at times, also using a XA2 and OM10, which belonged to my brothers. When the time came for me to buy my own cameras, initially second hand, I started with an OM-10, upgrading to an OM-2 Spot Program and OM-1. When the time came to move into mainly digital photography I stayed with Olympus, first an E-330, then an OMD E-M10ii. I know my next camera will be an Olympus or OM System, as they are now being rebranded😎
Whats your gopro setup like? And why set the camera to ASA250 with a 400iso film? I couldn't understand thanks. Also what setting do you suggest for night time photography with the trip 35?
sorry if this is an odd question but when you look through the viewfinder and take a shot, is the perspective that you’re seeing come out on the film? Because the viewfinder isn’t aligned with the lens so idk if that’ll affect my shots? on my fujifilm Polaroid camera I my lens isn’t aligned with the viewfinder so I have to adjust myself to get the frame I want (if that makes sense) I bought this camera recently and have been waiting to use it but wanted to know more before I do :)
vandtherose i assumes you already know the answer but it’s isn’t 100% the same picture as you’re seeing out of the viewfinder but pretty close to what you will be seeing.
Thanks fot the upload, a great watch. But, the shutter speeds you're mentioning in the first minute of the video, are not correct. 1/40 sec and, with a lot of light, it's 1/200 sec; that's it. Thanks a anyway!
Great video. My Trip 35 light meter is a bit off, so I modded mine to shoot 1/200th while manually selecting the aperture size. Normally, they shoot at 1/40th when you select the “for Flash” apertures. If you don’t care to mod it, ND filters would work too.
Now take the camera to the nature with you and make a few shots of green nature!!! And you will see... It catches mainly the green color perfectly!!! Photographing in the city is really not the right thing that you should do... But the photos are really nice even if photos are taken in the city... Petr from Czech, Europe...
Hey great video! I'm thinking about getting a Trip 35 for an everyday camera. Do you think there is a way to push to 800 or 1600 with this camera, since the ASA range is limited to 400?
The guitar @ 6:57 is so sharp! Perfect timing on the kneeling man as well. Great stuff, dude. Check out my shoot film videos some time, I'd love your thoughts.
Nice to see colour film being used in this camera for a change on TH-cam.

Good stuff, inspiring.
I haven't tried mine yet, hoping to put some film through it.
I'm currently using my Olympus Pen ee half frame film camera.
Great images. Love the classic feel to them.
Love the guy with the skate and the guy with the news paper... well done mate 👍👊👏
That first shot and the man walking with his hands back are my favourites!

Great vid fella, Im looking at getting a trip, my fave sot was the skateboarder by far.
Thank you glad you enjoyed the video and the images
Good shots, love the Trip 35
Although you say your zone focusing is not a strongpoint (I did not notice) your composition and eye are stellar. Great video. Thanks
I like this video just soooo much. Can watch and watch it over again.
Just discovered your channel while searching for videos on the Yashica 124g. I'm glad I did. I really enjoy your style!

So 400 film shot at 250. Is it developed as if it's still 400 film or at the iso you shot it at? Does the same apply to expired film?
I changed my mind, also the girl eating ice cream (?) is fantastic. Dude. Seriously, your street work is so good!
It really isnt, right now. BUT. It will be. Part of the fun of watching Garth's videos, at least for me, is seeing how he improves with each one, and I love that.

Wicked video and shots mate. Been researching this little guy and came across your channel. great stuff

Nice, good shots and I like the soundtrack 👍
Pushing Film thank you glad you enjoyed
Very cool video. Glad to see there is someone else out there doing this with the Olympus Trip 35.
Wrong, the shutter speed does not range from 1/40 to 1/400. It only has two shutter speeds, 1/40 and 1/200.
Okay fair my mistake
Jas Mann wait... it have 2 shutter speed?! how to change between these two? from the apeture?
nur fauzan karim the camera chooses the shutter speed available
Whats your gopro setup like? And why set the camera to ASA250 with a 400iso film? I couldn't understand thanks. Also what setting do you suggest for night time photography with the trip 35?
Same question here on the ASA
Typically colour negative film does better over Vs under exposed. By setting the camera to 250asa, you will always be overexposing.
sorry if this is an odd question but when you look through the viewfinder and take a shot, is the perspective that you’re seeing come out on the film? Did you develop the film as if it was shot on 400ASA or did you tell them that it was shot on 250?
Thanks fot the upload, a great watch. But, the shutter speeds you're mentioning in the first minute of the video, are not correct. 1/40 sec and, with a lot of light, it's 1/200 sec; that's it. Thanks a anyway!

How do you modd it to shoot always 1/200th?
I don't know why people downvote your videos, seriously. Always a pleasure seeing your work! Also, first :D
Lol its youtube init haters gonna hate
It's very comfy. Favourite at 6:09

Is it better to set it at 250 when it’s sunny outside or can you set it at 400 as well?
what's up man? So my friend, you go with ASA 250, but what was the aperture? I'm curious about this xD
So how does focusing work exactly? Im new to film so not sure
Your pictures turned out so well, definitely gonna rate it at 250 next time I use my trip. Great video!
You should!
How did you choose the focusing in your shots
It has a scale focus on the side of the lens
Have you shoot It in A or manual aperture?
How were these scanned and edited? They are very saturated and they look great!
Gday mate yep I reckon the skateboarder was excellent, also loved the veedub Kombi shots Cheers, just subbed
its all shooted in auto?
If I set it to infinity focus in A mode will it get everything in focus? Kinda like an f/8 1/400th scenario?
No, it won't.
Download a DOF app for your phone and plug away different scenarios. It'll give you an idea of what your lens can cover at different settings.
Can i ask what Setting you had the lens on?? was it landscape ?
I've read up on it a bit. Think there's single portrait, group portrait and landscape etc
Hey great video! I'm thinking about getting a Trip 35 for an everyday camera. Do you think there is a way to push to 800 or 1600 with this camera, since the ASA range is limited to 400?
Shoot a film stock that you can push - I can reccomend Matt Day's video on pushing HP5 to 1600.
I don't think there is a way to do it in camera that I know of sorry
Nice
What is that accent? Is that Ameriscouse?
i guess thats one thing to call it haha
Pentax MX + SMC 40mm
I hate that block that sticks out of the building, every time i walk under it i can't help but think it can't be structurally sound. 😂
haha i know what you mean it feels weird just walking underneath it at anytime never mind stopping to get a picture of it
The colors are direct from the film or did you edited it?
I think my favourite is the one at 7:56.
Images are slightly editied but didn't change any of the colours
machine half frame?
How would you get your photographs from the Olympus Trip 35mm onto Instagram? Any tips?
Stuart Cruickshank I’m sure you can get them developed onto a USB stick? I think, don’t quote me on that though.
these photos turned out amazing. how will the photos go without a flash?
What great shots - so impressed with your artistry my guy, keep it up
The guitar @ 6:57 is so sharp! Perfect timing on the kneeling man as well. Great stuff, dude.
Check out my shoot film videos some time, I'd love your thoughts.
Film shutter speed 1/40th and 1/200th only....
I’d like to buy this but im so broke at the moment to even get the cheapest deal i can find online 😭😭😭
