I sang these songs with great enthusiasm in seminary... only later I began to realize these songs as fun as they are, all man centered, they're all about us.
You can see their impact. A shepherdless flock lost in their sins. Remember God will judge and we're admonished to do so too in the spirit of the gospel (not in sin enabling love).
I am pretty sure Ray would like his songs published to the masses both lyrics and music notes and chords. We all want to sing these especially in times like this June 2022
Our choir sang this song (and others by Ray Repp and the Saint Louis Jesuits) with great enthusiasm back in the 80s and 90s. It took us awhile to realize (like the post before) that many of these songs (not hymns) are me-centered and not Christ-centered. These songs are catchy, folky, child-like, and fine nostalgia, but they have no place in liturgy, like much of the contemporary music "performed" at Mass these days.
Thanks son, brought back memories from Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Columbus. Miss the whole Folk Group that was there. If any of you were in the folk group at Lourdes send me a message.
Ray Repp sent me a copy of this song on a CD anonymously when I was searching high and low for this. Another Catholic composer told me Ray would totally do something like that and he got my request off his fan club web site. that was really special to me.
Do you know where I can find his music. Ray died last year in March a month before I could locate him. I used to play in a seminary guitar group and finally, I learned the guitar and have been searching for his musical scores.
I am still looking for this song. I tried to get it from iTunes but to no success...I just end up playing it again and again and again.... here at TH-cam....
This is some of the most beautiful and natural singing and guitar I've ever heard. The female voice singing with the male on the verses could have been a star with the right management,I'd say!
You'll know them by their fruits. Mr. Repp and the disasterous changes of that time helped increase non-Catholic churches with many converts. I shook the dust from my feet and only cringe when I hear these songs, remembering a time of hypocracy and ugliness, and mourn the loss of what was part of my cultural heritage. Listen to "Sons of God" as a pirate, drinking song. That was my Catholic High School's liturgy. Ugh.
Ok, so I remember this song fondly from Catholic school/folk masses in the 70s. But I'm reading in the comments that this isn't really appropriate for mass. What gives?
WE MAKING OUT OF THE HOMESTEAD WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
crazy

Amen! Maybe the earlier Church knew better...

I remember all those families that were part of our Folk Mass - beautiful.

Thank you very much for posting these great songs.
My sister came home singing this and my mom’s reaction “what in the world is happening with the Church ???” In exasperation
What did she mean?
@@dulcejocelyn7102 that this was nuts
@@briandelaney9710 in the bad way or the good way?
@@dulcejocelyn7102 In a great way. We were cuckoo fo Jesus

Brings a smile to my face, but thank goodness we moved fast beyond this music!
Beautiful song to sing around a campfire
And that’s exactly where it belongs.
better than round the campfire would be for it to have been pitched into that fire.
Tears of joy.

Thanx 4 posting...can't stop laughing. They played this at my church Folk Mass all the time in 70's.
deanofranksammy I suffered through many a folk mass as a kid then. I wanted the Latin Mass desperately
Amen, Brian. What's satisfying is seeing it failing so thoroughly. The Holy Ghost at work. @@briandelaney9710
May he rest in peace.

These are the verses we sang, but others may have made up new verses?
I first heard this sung by Butthead on the Beavis & Butthead show. Nice song.
Meeeee tooooooo. Beavis’ version was much better

The beginning of the fall of Catholic liturgical music
