Jagjit Singh, born Jagmohan Singh Dhiman (8 February 1941 - 10 October 2011), popularly known as "The Ghazal King" or "King of Ghazals", was an Indian Ghazal singer, composer and musician. ... He was regarded as one of India's most influential artists.
In 1990, Vivek (Jagjit Singh and Chitra's son) died in a road accident at the age of 20. This came as a profound shock to Jagjit and Chitra Singh. They gave up music for a full year after the death. At the end of that period, Jagjit returned slowly to music, but Chitra announced her retirement and declared that she would not sing or record any more songs.
Singh toured the UK in 2011 and was due to perform with Ghulam Ali in Mumbai but suffered a brain haemorrhage on 23 September 2011. He was in a coma for over two weeks and died on 10 October at Lilavati Hospital, in Mumbai. He was cremated the following day at Chandanwadi Crematorium near Marine Lines in Mumbai.and some tried to cash in on his popularity, which was criticised by his wife.

रुला दिया आई यार आपकी बयाने कैफियत ने। ये वाक्य मुझे मेरे चहेते गानों के बराबर याद रहेगा जिंदगीभर। क्या खूब पेश काश है आपकी। मेरी सारी उम्र जगजीतज्चितराज के गाने और गजल सुनने में मसरूफ रही पर इनकी निजी जिंदगी के बारे में आज पता चला। चित्रजी जगजीतसिंह के दोस्त या पहेचाने साथीदार की पत्नी रह चुकी थी ये पहली बार जाना। चित्राजी अगर पहले पसंद नही करती थी जगजीतसिंह को तो वोही वजह रही होगी उनकी साड़ी के बाद उनकी निजी जिंदगीमे रहता तनाव की जो मेने कई बार समाचारकी सुर्खियों से जाना था। कुछ भी हो। , एक गजल गायक अगरचे दिलसे दुख को महसूस न किया हो तो उन सवेदनाओ को अपने सुरो में बखूबी डाल नही सकता।
इनकी यादें आने वाली हर पीढ़ी को अच्छा।भीत करती रहेंगी। ऐसे कलाकार मरते नही, उनके चाहने वालोके दिलो दिमाग मैं अमर ही रहते है। ।
