    fascinating story of bold education in adverse circumstances --pioneering efforts and many obstacles. It is especially intriguing to hear how women's new roles and new horizons for African Americans emerge in same story. Great that the house where Prudence Crandall opened her academy still stands to recall this tale.

    I don't exactly know how but remember my great grandmother telling me that we are related to Prudence Crandall. We live in Canada so this fascinated me. I began to search for the missing links only to find dead ends:( Even if it wasn't based in truth I'm still honored by the thought of being related to this amazing person.

      That is also what brought me to this video. My mother’s maiden name is Crandall and believes we are descendants. Prudence was also a descendant of sir John Crandall who came on the mayflower and fought for religious reform. Cheers
