Just got accepted to la guardia found out on Myschools . I can’t believe I got in especially for drama I mean there’s so much competition.when I was at my audition things went smoothly I even made my judge tear up (I built a bond with the judges in such a short amount of time).

Hey Audra, I recently got my results and i made it into LaGuardia. Though im excited, im quite nervous since i am almost , if not always, a introvert. So all ask is, how easy is it to communicate with others and make friends?😶☺
Ashira #JapanLover hey, I can totally understand your nervousness. Do you have any friends right now? There is a huge chance that there will be a lot of people you know at LaG, but everyone is super nice and accepting. Lots of people there are introverts so don’t be nervous! You will be awesome! You just have to try and be nice and try and talk to people and friends will come. That’s my personal opinion because I totally feel you!
Thanks for the advice. I will say that the nervousness definitely comes from being with the same students from kindergarten to 8th grade, so I'm not used to meeting new people because I've been around the same people my whole life. I was actually looking forward to going to LaGuardia with one of my closest friends, unfortunately she did not make it in. I have interacted with some students before during the open house , so I did discover that students there are quite nice , so and I can't wait to experience different things with new people. thanks for the advice and help. 😁
Ashira #JapanLover actually you know the way I found most of my friends was someone found us all on Instagram because our bios said lag 21’ and put us all on a group chat they just grew and grew and we all hung out. I made so many friends there. If you have the chance, try and pull a groups chat together before school starts so you all will know at least one person on the first day of school!
You will find people who you absolutely despise, and you will find people you totally love. I have to be honest and say the school is not accepting of introverts as it’s a performing arts school, but it’s accepting of every kind of person in the world. What I’m trying to say is you may be the minority of introverts, but everyone will accept who you are. You will find good friends that you can relate too, that just may not be everyone. Good luck, and you will get completely sick of the bells 4 months into freshman year.
most people r pretty extroverted out here but i’m pretty introverted myself n i made friends pretty easily
just talk to anyone that seems interesting and they’ll more than likely want to talk to you too
I’m auditioning as a sophomore Bc I didn’t get into lag as an art major as a freshman. Do you remember what your grades/state test scores were in 7th grade to get into lag?
I mean, my grades were all 90s but it all depends on how well your audition goes as well.
Last question. Do you know if lag is open for fine arts round 2? Just wanna make sure..
If by round 2 you mean auditioning in freshman year, yes. If you mean reapplying THIS year... I'm not exactly sure, sorry.
Audra Baruch like if you want to audition in 9th grade to get in as a sophomore. Is their seats for the 10th grade?
Yes, there are seats for every studio, but the amount varies for every studio, you'll have to check that out.
When you have average finances, live in NY, and are talented enough to get accepted to a performing arts school

I got my letter today and i got in for fine arts. I just wanted to know the schedule situations and like is it different for everyone?
Well first off, congratulations! Well, every studio either has 9 or 10 periods for their freshman year, then everyone has 10 for sophomore, but that isn't important. I think fine arts might have 10 periods because they have a couple of art classes, but I only know the drama, vocal and instrumental periods. I know fine arts is very fun and my friends love it. For the first week of school, there are a lot of schedule changes, but you all freshman have the same classes. However, if you went to a private school, you might be taking different classes. First period starts at 8:00, and 10th period ends at 4:10.
Audra Thank you so much! I have some friends that will be juniors and hopefully they will help me around the school haha. What are the lunch situations? I know it’s different for a lot of schools so it would be nice to know. Sorry for asking a bunch of questions I’m just nervous
Hazel Bromley no problem! Lunch periods are 4,5,6,7 and 8 so those are your possible lunch periods. freshman and sophomores eat in the fifth floor cafeteria and the foods just regular public school lunch but you can always make your own.
i was also an art major and graduated in 2016. freshman year you will have 2 continuous periods (45 mins each) of studio practice 1 (mostly pencils, charcoals, and realistic drawing) for the first semester and studio practice 2 (water color and tempera paint) for the second. as far as i know all the freshmen have only 9 periods in their schedule. either from 8-3:20 or 8:45-4:09. if you want more studio time a lot of the art teachers will allow you to come in and join their class as long as you ask nicely and dont disrupt the class. thats how things have been in the school for a looooong time and unless Dr mars (ew) kept changing things up thats how it should be.

I remember watching this 2 years ago in preparation for the first day. Time flies. Especially when they announced a "2 week break"

Well, the school places more emphasis on the arts, but you also might want to do good for academics! We also had plenty of AP classes.

Okay so recently I went to their open house a week ago. I really liked it but it made me nervous for the amount of people there. I’m going to audition next week exactly (Saturday) for visual arts and I’m superrrrrr nervous. Like super. I’m not the best artist, but not the worst and I feel the future pressure from the judges I’m assuming. Anyway, I’m awaiting for those 3 hours of drawing. Lol

Thanks for this video!! I wish i could attend LaGuardia but i live in Amsterdam and i believe that they do not have programs for foreigners. But i like this video. The American High School is so different compared to the Netherlands, but that's what i like about it.

Do you have any friends in the dance category? I’m in 7th grade and I want to audition (next year of course) but I’m not sure what they’re looking for in a dancer. My mom isn’t supportive of my choice in high school and if I get in I’ll prove her wrong! Thank you.
Hi Estrella! I do have friends in the dance studio. You definitely need some dance experience. They like ballet, but usually 3-4 years of experience is preferred I think. Tell your mom it's a great school, but your studio will require you to put in extra effort.

mairéad siobhan well once a freshman myself I would say don’t stress about it in general. Freshman year is pretty chill and you will have so much fun in your studio. And if you don’t make friends, don’t worry. There are 850 other kids in your grade and at least one would like to be friends with you!

naturallynashally hi there! Usually you get your acceptance letter or email from all public high schools super soon! They almost always come in March. Last year, it was early March but it could be any time during March. Good luck! And you can always reaudition in 9th grade if you didn’t get it your preferred studio

You definitely have to have some sort of artistic goal or passion to get in 😅 so if you want to get in, you have to put in the work.

gabriel rocha wait are you 20 years old? I don’t understand the phrase “I am 20y” lol sorry. But overseas programs are a little tricky. They require visas and green cards etc. unless you go to a school with an IB program, I’m not sure how else you could study abroad for art.

Just Another Musician prepare a song. They’ll usually ask for about 16 measures but they might let you go on. They want a song that shows off the most talent. After that they’ll have you sight read something and tap out a rhythm.
My school is the smaller version of yours, just without escalators, and it’s in Australia.
Hey I’m auditioning for la guardia and I got the receipt but it doesn’t say the audition date 😭. How do I know when my audition is and how will I know if I get accepted? hey, so currently i go to a middle school in the bronx called “bronx dance academy” and yearly only 4 people from my school get accepted into laguardia. right now i’m only going into 7th grade but i really want to go to this school. i want to audition as a drama major because i love acting and my acting teacher in after school believes i’m a really good at it. so despite only being in 7th and my school being so trash only 4 kids get accepted, do you think i may have a chance and if so, what is your advice?
