    I think the fact Qor sent you their entire watercolor range while knowing full well you'll give your honest opinion speaks volumes to their belief in their product. I hope to find some colors to add to my collection!

    • @OtoKano
      @OtoKano  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, and their ethics as well. They don't want to pretend to be something they're not and would hate to be represented in that way. They're like, we want you to communicate what these products really do. Top notch company, and I'm not saying that just because they gave me free paints. Plenty of companies I wouldn't speak highly of just because of free paints!!

    Golden makes such amazing products, and Qor has some of my favorite colors from any brand. Their dioxazine purple is nearly black in masstone, it’s gorgeous, and they’ve done independent lightfast testing so I feel confident using it!

    I'm VERY excited about this series. I have to be honest that yellow is my least favorite color (spring daffodils and lemons excepted) so I have trouble getting excited about yellow other than for mixing or a base layer. That said, I generally gravitate to cadmium yellows.

    I just got a free tube of Nickel Yellow. Blick's sent me a tube by mistake and when I told them about it, they said I could keep it. Amazing that they sent me an accidental tube in a color I didn't have, so it's worth it to me to try it out now. I like the idea of making pastels with it, so thanks for that!

    I am very interested in this Qor series of videos. I want to love them, but in the colossal showdown series you filmed, the Qor colors didn’t ever seem to be the stars. Since they are expensive, I expected them to perform better in the comparisons. I do appreciate an ethical company though, so I am keeping an open mind. The first three yellows are amazingly bright. I like the nickel yellow on its own, as I do not like pastel minty colors like those mixed on your swatch card. I do like the sunny quality of the cadmium primrose. I think you could mix some nice colors from it. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for sharing your expertise.😘

    Yay!!! Great video! I think I have all the Qors that I want- except for 1 or 2 maybe Thats usually how I pick my watercolors- i got thru each brands complete line and pick the ones i want and then chip away at the list, little by little. Ive finished my MGraham and Qor. Almost done with Roman Szmal. Now ive started working on Old Holland and Maimeri and Rembrandt. Anyway I love Qor! Please please do all your Roman Szmal after Qor!! Jk but please. Lol. Thanks for sharing and Much love💜💙

      I've swatched all of the Roman Szmal ones! Not in as much details for the main colors, but I have swatched them. I've also done as detailed a swatching on this channel of their newer colors. I hope you can find them!

    • @nadeaner.cowley513
      @nadeaner.cowley513 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OtoKano Hi. Sorry about the late response. Yes Ive seen the roman szmal videos(I love them btw)...BUT I was referring to swatching the Roman Szmal line in MORE detail; like you are doing with all the Qor paints-like each color having its own swatch card and few minutes to shine with 'Oto the paint master' lol)-->I think swatching Roman Szmal like that is a really a good idea because the Roman Szmal Aquarius line includes many UNIQUE and RARE pigments--and I believe viewers and artists (even if they aren't interested in Roman Szmal as a brand or even if they arent into watercolor media all together) would be really interested in seeing a more in-depth look into the characteristics of such rare and unique pigments...ESPECIALLY since finding an in-depth look into rare colors like PV37, PY168, PO59, PY181..etc.. is nearly impossible to find online!!! YOU'D be one of the first resources for artists to actually see these rare and unique pigments painted out and discussed in depth!!! ....So...thats my unsolicited wants needs and advice...Lol.....Im sorry. Lol...Im really sorry for being bossy and a no-it-all. Lol. I understand reswatching Roman Szmal IN-DEPTH (like you are doing Qor) would be a huge commitment and time suck. Anyway great video, thank you for taking the time to make such wonderful videos for us artists!!! Much love💜♥️💙

    So glad you are doing this! Could you rank the four (excluding Nickel Yellow) as to lightest to darkest? None of these appear to be tilted towards orange if I am seeing the colors correctly? I just bought the Primrose thinking it was the lightest yellow of that four.

      do you mean order than in value? Or in hue? Or brightness? I've arranged all the colors in this series in hue order, so here I start with the coolest yellow and get warmer (although there's not much difference here!)

    Hello Dr Kano,
    Could you please clarify how you do your dispersion test?
    Paper type, amount of water and paper grain all effect dispersion and flow!
    (Some people add colour to a whetted surface, others charge a damp surface, others like it when the water is shiny and proud of the paper.)
    (I am most interested in getting the particular Qor paints that move the furthest in shiny proud water along the grain, of Fabriano Artistico full sheets. Eg Payne's Grey moves a real long distance, as a fast movement! )
    Thank you so much for your thorough work.
    In kindred spirit

    • @OtoKano
      @OtoKano  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes of course! I used bockingford paper, 300gsm CP. I wet the paper, but not proud of the paper. Then immediately drop a single drop of masstone color.

    I’m surprised at the hansa yellow light’s opacity, but for me whenever I swatch my yellows most have an opacity. For me all the hansa yellows I’ve tried are semi transparent at least. I think that might have something to do with yellow being a light color because my nickel azo yellows are transparent but they are darker in mass tone
