The Gaslight Anthem Covers The Animals' classic rock hit "The House Of The Rising Sun." Filmed and recorded live at Billboard Studios. - เพลง
The Gaslight Anthem are such an underrated band I remember seeing them supporting Springsteen in 2009 & they were superb have followed them ever since would be good if they reformed.
I've been following Fallon for a while now, and I could not agree more
Know this is late but they're reforming and making a new album. Saw them in Philly and DC
I think every big band out there should do a "Rising Sun" Cover. It's such an amazing song!
Daniel Hinton A lot have actually lol might be one of the most covered songs.
I love Gaslight Anthem and Brian has a great voice for this song. Its a classic song and theyve done a great job.
Man.. heaps of great memories because of this band. Mad love for Gaslight!
Well, I was a touch sad to hear him drone on about the rock classic House of the Rising Sun, when it's roots are much older. THen they came out and threw this completely off the hook badass hard rock version at me, and I forgot what he said. That voice is an awesome mix of smooth leather and gravel, don't lose it, great great great rock voice. Super cover.
Love the jazzy feel mixed in with the grunge is just beautiful....
It's all relative. I think his vocals are chilling. Expertly done. The screams and screeches are all part of the magic. It's a dark song (not to mention they play it a full step down from the original), it makes sense for the vocals to be intense.
The raw and rough vocals fit well with the meaning of this tune.
thank you lord for this version! some deep feelings felt all the way to Portugal. just great.....
I usually hate covers of this song cause it's one of my favorites but this band did AMAZING!
I dig this band, they’re pretty dope and I love the leads voice… The cover was beautifully done
The Animals have made a timeless piece of music, you cannot ever deny it, but this is just an awesome cover, with a different style infused..I think the lead singer's voice really makes their song what it is
Brian and the boys picked a great song to cover based on his raspy melodic vocals and bluesy background in music. Not to mention the band's style together. Great rendition to an already killer song.
Like so much that cover. I especially like how the singer sang.
it has the character of a live performance. I think it's wonderful.
To the people who complain about his pitch, its done on purpose and it works so well on a song like this
that song is such an amazing song one of my favourite songs ever and i was reading to watch a cover but well done
Best cover ever. Buy this is the animal's
He is singing and keep hands on microphone like Eddie Vedder
+Oskar w. theyve noted their Pearl Jam influence, even covered Sate of Love and Trust
I was just thinking how much his Vedder influence is showing in this performance.
@@Megamando93 That's an amazing cover.
When he said where they come from, he's referring to music in general from when The Animals laid the track down to what TGA have done with the song. This "version" is a vessel to convey the evolutionary sound of music and yes it should be different but clearly recognizable. Had the The Animals attempted this song today it may sound quite similar to this rendition.
That being said you're clearly entitled to an opinion and I respect it, I just felt you were misunderstanding what he meant.
It's so funny watching Brian without a guitar; so awkward! Hahaha!
First song I was part of in a band...I was ten and played bongos...the singer was 13, name was Jack.... he had the voice ...1967
Memories of a great version of this sung at the Koko gig in London in June!
I heard them play this live in June. The intensity for this song was a notch or two above the rest of the set. Quite something live.
Fantastic, love it.
sounds a lot like eddie vedder, which in my opinion kicks ass
No one can do it better than The Animals
AMEN!!!!!!
The song was not written by the Animals. It's an old American folk song!
Correct; however, the version known by all (and being covered) was indeed composed by Alan Price of The Animals.
The drummer is bad ass!!!
1th I want to greet my grandma, grandpa, mum, toasty, carly, sam ,freddy AND THIS LOVLY BAND
very good
Granted his voice wasn't brilliant here, but you can't just decide he can't sing after just 1 video, I saw these live last Sunday and he and the dude from deer tick absolutely nailed this.
amazing!!!!
I LOVE THIS!!!!!
my god!!! this was not the song for you to sing, know your limits
..the rest of the band sounds great!
I like the drummer...
Excellent what are some other good covers by bands like these guys?
great cover
by technically bad do you mean that you don't like his raspy vocal style, because he's hitting all of the notes and is in key, his timing is also spot on. while i may sing it different stylistically, technically i perform it the same way.
he conveys great emotion and drive behind his vocals as well. the only thing i think you could complain about is that rasp. but what do i know, i'm only a musician booked every weekend for the forseeable future
O...M...G....
Please realize the song dates back to the 1500s possibly. You can sing it any way you want, and it isn't bad.
Thanks for this!
all they need is that organ then im blown away
Sweet
Nice voice!!
It isn't entirely clear who wrote the song but it wasn't the animals. Traces of the song dates back to the 1900s
fun fact: Brian's air guitar can be heard
I am not a fan of this band, but the drumming and singing is great. great cover
Very debatable, people like to cover songs in the original style....well because they like it. Why wouldn't you want to play something you like as opposed to playing in your own style just because "oh, it's what you're supposed to do, that's what covers are for"
At that point it's no longer a cover. It'd be a crossover :P
please play that at HIGHFIELD FESTIVAL 2012!
Brian does know that the animals didn't write the song, does he?
there are a handful of old songs that are bogged down by institutional education. we used to parody This Land Is Your Land cuz compared to American Idiot it's quiet bland. this is definitely one of those songs.
it's cool when bands cover cool songs, but most of the time it's a song from the past 20-30 years. it's always cooler when bands go back and bring new life into old songs.
it wasn't till i saw Anti Flag cover This Land Is Your Land many years later that i went back and gave that song the respect it deserves.
1:30 my mother was a gambling man? Oh okay
he said father. you can hear him enunciate the F.
NO he A "FFFF"ukkkd UP
Justin OranGiNuLL Still definitely says FFFFather.
LookMeNmyEye He says Father...
I think Ian also laughed at 1:38
Obviously if you don't like this vocal style, you won't like this cover. I get that this was originally a rock ballad, but G.A covered it in their rendition. You can't be prejudice against it because you like the original, or because you don't like raspy, partially screaming vocals.
It isn't originally a rock ballad, it's an old slave song. No one knows where exactly it came from, but it's originally a blues song.
Exactly. I've never understood why bands cover songs and play them in the original style instead of their own. What's the point? If you're not going to add something, leave the song alone.
this is NOT an Animals song , this song has roots way way back to the 1800's maybe further. this version is so so guys sorry.
Totally. He's thrown his voice, the problem is that you end up with burrs in your voice after a lot of screaming, micro-tears and scaring, so when you bring it back down and try to sing on pitch your voice just doesn't go where you want it.
my dear lord.
Not painful enough. Don't fill the passion like Eric sings it. I
then tell me please: who else wrote the house of the rising sun in 1964?
Brian's not bad on the air guitar as well!
The air drums too!!
and the voice seems Eddie Vedder's
A cover should not be a copy of the original. What's the point of copying something that already exists? They did their own rendition. By the way, the most important thing in this song is the lyrics, not the way it is sung. (This is just an opinion, like almost everything in music)
Damn good drummer
He sang it without playing the guitar as a tribute to Eric Burdon of the Animals. Even the way he holds the mike is influenced by Burdon.
No, I think his vocal style is really cool and I like it! But the way he couldn't keep the notes, I mean... I can't explain it to well 'cause I don't know the english terms for the vocals, but I just think if he would have sang better it would've been a great cover!
What about Lead Belly??
Eric is the shit but he just made it pop
yep, if Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder had a boy
Haha spot on
The Animals weren't even the first ones to play this...
Hence why Alex says "it's our version ... of The Animals' version."
Interesting vocals. They need getting used to, but I love 'em
I totally understand the different style this cover is done in and how covers can be far from the original. However that doesn't take away from the obvious fact that a lot of the time the singer was flat, occasionally the drums went out of time and the guitar solos were nothing special. Nothing against the genre or the change, just simply musical mistakes
Jack Walters Dude it’s punk, yes they made “mistakes”. Those “mistakes” added flair to the song, they added character. So are they really mistakes if it sounded good? To quote Justin Sandercoe “If it sounds good, it is good.”
I mean, when orchestras play originals from Beethoven or Mozart, they don't add anything do they? They play them as they were composed because they sound fantastic, why change it? That concept shouldn't be different for modern music. To be honest, if an artist can cover a song and make it sound like the original, and really nail it, it's quite impressive, not to mention difficult.
better than the original!
There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's all drunk
Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun
Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
I really wanted to like this... I really did
It is his vocal style what are you talking about ??
This song is about growing up as a prostitute in a whore house. The singer could have sang it on key if he wanted to. Instead he sang it with a wretched soul quality, rather than the way your high school choir teacher might have you sing it. I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of theirs, but this is an excellent cover!
HOLY SHIT
fuck,! this is much better than the original!
It's not that it is a bad cover it's some of his pitch is off like flat I can hear it
Drummer!!!! Jeeez
can you play Sunny next ;?
Not the same without the organ solo
"the original" was a cover... this is a new orleans folk song.
Kinda funny since he learned to dance from the very best dancers in town
Brian here sounds a lot like eddie vedder
Sometimes he goes Flat. i was just thinking if he is doing that on purpose?
These camera angle changes are giving me motion sickness.
my good god, it was Lead Belly who first performed it not animals.
+Callum Murphy actually It's a old folk song from the very start of the 20th century, maybe earlier we don't know.
+GREGGY yes, I'm sorry I did a bit more research and found it was older. thankyou anyways.
+GREGGY yes, I'm sorry I did a bit more research and found it was older. thankyou anyways.
why?
Animals didn't write this song. It is an anonymous American folk song. Bob Dylan played it too, maybe even before the Animals. Both versions are better than this
Tofu4Dinner Yes, but the instrument arrangement of this version was by The Animals.
Tofu4Dinner Yes, but the instrument arrangement of this version was by The Animals.
It's by lead Belly I believe
Who cares? Eric Burdon and the Animals did it better than anybody. EVER.
Who?
well, its not an original Animals song for starters. It happens to be a folk song, with its exact authorship unknown. Prior to The Animals cover the great Lead Belly and Woodie Guthrie recorded versions, among many others. Any how, I can not say I have ever listened to this band, and I can now say I am not a fan of this version of such an iconic American song.
He's got a fucking crazy weird voice hahahahahaha
Proper screams
It is amazing
I agree
Jesus Christ Benny :o
Tell that to Chester Bennington.
Not even one thing you mention in your comment refers to any of the things I said.
I find it a pity they played it this way and I still think the song is technically badly sung.
Haha, true that. The world is turning (or has turned) into a place where people can't cope with the truth any more..
haha, ouch. u hert my feelingz. ur a mean perzon.
