    Ive been looking for one of these clocks for years and finally found one. Had to solder some wires and the motor needed to be cleaned just like yours, now it works perfectly. It's a sony with a function to snooze by touching a capacitive metal bar labeled "dream bar". Pretty cool

    Great job on fixing this retro flip clock. It's fasicinating! The reason how I came across your video is because I am trying to fix my flip clock here which is a much simplier design flip clock, no radio. :)

      Cool. If I do it again I will probably try spraying some deoxit in the motor first since the alcohol took off some of the paint.

    Doing this same fix on a woodgrain copal 227. Glad i found this video and a group of people that also love flip clocks! I was thinking it needed to be lubed up and this confirms that.

    This worked for me. I have pretty much the same clock from a different company but internally it's practically the same. Thanks for sharing this video!

    Amazing video!! This is the power of the internet, I have a radio, a different brand but the clock font seems exactly the same and the overall look of the flip-over. I will try repairing it next week as I have the similar problem that the motor doesn't spin! Thanks a lot!!!

      Yes I did it!! I managed to repair my music air 10F-2Y thank you so much! I love this radio. Also the isopropanyl did it for me.

    This is an interesting repair as I also have an old non-functional flip clock. Well, it's actually my parents' clock that I believe they bought sometime in the 1970's. It's a Cariole, which I think is now a defunct brand. The numbers are angled up, instead of normally facing towards its window so you can't obviously see the numbers. It also has that moving spiral but nothing is moving. However, just like in the video, the rest of it seems to be just fine, such as the am/fm radio. I will have to open it one of these days, it could almost well be the motor itself. I do have another clock but it doesn't have the numbering flip plates so rather all the numbers are painted on a wheel, which I'd imagine is some form of decagon & that too doesn't work, but the radio does. Both these clocks are from my youthful past. And just like many of us who are into vintage stuff, it would be a waste if these were thrown away, because if there are only a few of us tinkerers, collectors & nostalgists, there are a great many more who could care less & will trash them. I've gone to recycle stuff at the recycler/trash company & it's just kinda sad seeing so many machines brought there to be recycled. One reason is people want to upgrade to a new machine & give room to it. And of course the other reason is they have no idea how to fix it if it's broken, hence why they brought it there to be recycled. I suppose it's better for the environment when it's recycled rather than put in the landfill, even something like a broken-down flip clock. I've fixed many things so far, so these clocks are going to be in my repair queue, just unsure when I'll get to them.

    I've had my eye on flip clocks for a while now but I'm a broke college kid who doesn't want to pay to get it fixed and the working models cost up to $309😭 plus I love to fix things! I restored a few of my tape players too!
    I love your lil stories and I'm new here but I will definitely be coming back:)

    Mine has everything screwed into the case itself. It doesn’t have that removable bottom. But I could easily reach through and get that motor spinning after I knew what I was looking for. Thank you so much!!

    First time taking apart, just did alcohol bath..nothing. Second time taking apart added 3 in one oil and it appears to be working. Well numbers are changing, the wheel looks slow so not sure if time is accurate. This is a MAJOR accomplishment for me because EVERY time I take something apart based on a TH-cam video the item is a total loss. I did screw up the wire that moves the radio dial on this one but getting the clock working outweighs that problem. THANK YOU!

    Thanks for the video! Just got one from a thrift store and fixed it watching this. Do you know what kind of voltage is on a bulb that lights up clock?

    I came here to say this video just helped me save a motor out of a Panasonic flip clock.
    Reoiling it didn't work, it wouldn't start on it's own. But it looks like doing exactly what you did getting rubbing alcohol in the motor and so far, it starts on its own now!
    Thank you, I would have never thought to do that.

    • @RetroHackShack

      Awesome! I am going to look for a way that doesn't remove the paint on some models.

    • @HesitantSignal
      @HesitantSignal 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroHackShack This actually didn't remove any paint on mine. What percent rubbing alcohol did you use? I used 70%. If you used anything higher or 91% that might be why.

    • @RetroHackShack
      @RetroHackShack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I probably used 91

    • @HesitantSignal

      @@RetroHackShack That might explain it then. 91 is too strong and is pretty much a paint thinner

    looks very similar and had the same issue as my 1970's longines. it was my dad;s and i only kept it for sentimental reasons but i may dig it out now and give this a try. btw he got it free for joining a record club like way back. thanks.

      Just be careful. If that decal is similar it may come off with IPA. You may want to try deoxit first.

    Do you recommend oiling the motor for a noisy second hand or is there another possibility I’m overlooking? The clock keeps time perfectly.

    You are ritght, very few people have any info on fixing these. I have a panasonic flip clock whose motor does not spin. Looking for help on what wires power the motor, where they come from and what the voltage should be. Still looking for information but it might take a while. Please help.

    • @BonzaiFPV
      @BonzaiFPV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably needs the motor oiled or cleaned out. Usually by disassembly. Maybe try a syringe filled with oil to get the hard to reach places and you might not have to take the whole thing apart. Also sometimes just spinning the motor a few times with It powered off will work the existing oil/grease/"Shmoo" around and get your motor running again. clocks can be finicky sometimes. Good luck Godspeed 😃
