The reason Jagex let the bots run rampant was a healthy decision for the game at the time. The game was *_hemorrhaging_* players and therefor money. Mods were not allowed to ban anyone except 100% confirmed goldfarmers during this period, the command being given from the top brass. They just sat back and quietly gathered data while only banning confirmed goldfarmers. If it wasn't for the game's monetary surplus from it's initial success and the wise decisions made by leadership the game could have easily died. Hindsight's always 20/20.

Uhh, what was Arbiter resiging from at powerbot? He was never a developer there, only a script writer and gold seller. He wrote scripts and sold them under the Arbibots initially on rsbot then went to his own site Arbibots with a reskinned RSbot client. All he done at Powerbot before that was sell gold, he was the biggest gold seller throughout the Trade limit window. He would log into peoples accounts and mass farm with rune sodoku before anyone knew about it, it was insane money for him. I know all this because I was good friends with him for these years. I sold scripts wrote and sold scripts under the Arbibots banner. We also had a private script that Arbiter, myself and two others ran on accounts 24/7 farming kingly imps on mos le harmless right after kinglys came out, we found out the spawns on there were extremely frequent, and we could make anywhere from 15-30m/h. I remember making upwards of 5b on one account and botting the entire thing to max with the profits, and that was only one of my 4 accounts that I ran it on. Crazy times.
Very well edited, entertaining, and informative video, good job!!! I heard snippets of things around the community but never pieced it all together like this.
I received a list of 4000 account details from a friend I made in OSRS who also received it from his IRL friend. His friend claimed he bought the details from one of the OSBuddy employee. I tried posting on Reddit multiple times and every time my post got shadowbanned immediately, haven't tried since.

Tried botting back in the day as a poor college student. Got hacked for about ~400mil, was super sketchy bc the guy turned on my webcam and watched me as he went through multiple accounts and drained them. Wonder if it was Ghost.
As much as I hate botters I do find it funny that someone claimed they were all no-lifers dispite having to play less than a legitimate player to accomplish the same results.
This is like movie drama vibes there, I wanna see it!
"Everythings Legal in Germany" - Ouch xD
Even the refugees without documentation.
@Elder74 Except that it’s not unusual for a country to accept asylum seekers.
Except blood in videogames :D
it really pissed me off tbh that the owner of the best botting site gave the biggest middle finger to all of the people who used his product lol
Nerd
As an original member of Living Legends In glad to have still remained subbed to Will over the years. Always a pleasure watching his vids. I DO miss his Editing Streams though. :’(
Aww! Maybe we could do an editing stream of the next docu, hehe
@@rswillmissit you better cuz I miss making you laugh your facial expressions are always so wholesome and sobering!
Can someone fix the violet is blue 2 load screen post setting decorations
I am really glad you've got a sponsor omg!
subbed for the fucking plug for VPN bruh. the smooch got me
So basically cheaters who worked for Jagex, how nice and ethical game developers, Jagex still in that state of microtransactions.
It's not uncommon for game studios (or tech companies as a whole) to hire people who manage to hack their software or in this case write bots.
Just as with the stat rollbacks, there was also a thread made by Jagex on the RS forums, at the time of the Gh0st hijacking, where you could report your name if you had fallen victim of the hijacking spree. :-)
13:08 this one is ironic as you don't need to sit with the bot allowing you to do whatever. Unlike those actually grinding.
i've not played since runescape was new like 20 years ago can i just buy a old school runescape card and play like normal or do i need a regular rs account first?
I swear jagex lore would be a good tv show.
2:28 I walked back in the room at this moment and thought this was a sponsor plug 🤔
Isn't there still a bot problem in the game currently?
so youre telling me that the Jagex ceo, who was against third party apps for years, left the company and immediately bought a third party app for his previously owned game? what the actual heck
i got away with botting with powerbot but i told on myself and got banned
nukeday was not good cause if you log out before nukeday you will be okay i did it
That Nord VPN ad was so good!
Discovered your channel from your golden gnome following you around! Enjoyed the video, I miss the MMG days, he was a fun ceo.
I feel like Jacmob is the young Voldemort of RuneScape
Happy to be the salesman who sold him an Audi S4.
Shit I took full advantage of the RSbuddy height and botted 5 99s in the Summer of '11 on my main
Your such an exciting person to listen to. Like real talk. You deserve the best little TH-cam community the RS community can provide.
Aw thank you so much!
Jagex taking a page out of Catch Me if You Can's playbook
Great movie though
Very well edited, entertaining, and informative video, good job!!!
I heard snippets of things around the community but never pieced it all together like this.
bring back the bot nuke for all bots online every where
I honestly somewhat miss the bots. I miss playing mini games.
so why are there rampant bots in osrs? i dont believe that itd be that hard to get rid of them if Jagex wanted to
Because the anti-bot system is on rs3, not osrs. Not sure why they haven't implemented it in osrs.
@@RockBandRS subscription, and they realize it will be bad for investors
Because the war on bots never ends they make a nuke and then within a few weeks the bot authors find a way around it
I wouldnt knock jagex for it I think around the same time Google stated if you could hack Google they would give you 1mill and a job.
Was hacked by gh0st back then, crazy how no one talks about it
120 slayer on lvl 3 THATS A LOT OF MICROTRANSACTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a great choice by jagex to be honest. Most software and game developers hire the biggest cheats due to the exp and help to fix the problem.
3:05 he only made $1,800×10ads ($18k/month)? That's honestly... Not as much as I expected
I was one of the 40000 players banned during the botwatch glitch...I feel special...🙄
JAGEX said keep your friends close, and your enemies closer
1800 month is not that much. Definitely not enough to say that hes been "raking" it in like a casino..
I used to bot so much most skills where 99. When nuke day came along i paniced but somehlw dident get cought. A month later i got the ban for rwt lol
I received a list of 4000 account details from a friend I made in OSRS who also received it from his IRL friend.
His friend claimed he bought the details from one of the OSBuddy employee.
Don't know how much of that is true, but I tried some of the accounts on that list and could log in to them; unless they were authenticated.
I tried posting on Reddit multiple times and every time my post got shadowbanned immediately, haven't tried since.
I hear a lot of similar stories. It'd be interesting to find out what it comes from.
This story is more riveting than a Marvel movie
Love this type of video, Will! 💜
Jacob smiling in the dark …dear god 😟

I mean I no way condone botting, but I'm pretty sure the whole reason people bot is so they can go outside, and they actually have a life that's why they're botting 🤷♂️
Gh0st was a very legit person, had an entire site advertising his client.
I bought one back in the day, and it definitely was an entire rsbot client with a keylogger in it. He had the client, he changed the download link on the main rsbot client, this was common knowledge back in the day.
8:26 “Everyone who got hacked was an RSBot user” Did you mean powerbot?
No, RSbot was the software on the Powerbot page that was infected with a keylogger.
A VPN won't save you from a keylogger.
