Most Anime Heroines: Oh why would MC like me anyways? I’m so plain and boring, surely he only sees me as a friend. Uzaki-Chan: Heck yeah he digs me! What can I say, I’m such babe he can’t take his eyes off me! 😏
I often find that many romance anime take too long than is normal for the MC's or even SC's to develop some level of intimacy. I don't know if this is an anime trope or a trait of the Japanese people. Regardless of that, I like where this season is going. Everyone around them, Family, Friends, and even Strangers assume they are a couple, albeit a couple in denial.
It’s probably because many romcoms have multiple waifus and even if there’s a certain couple people will still get mad if a random character doesn’t marry the mc also it helps to stretch it out to make more content. Unless you mean actual time because they’ve known each other for years at this point.
It really comes down to story telling. What is the story you are trying to tell? Where is the conflict, or should I say obstacles, for the story? How long do you want the story to be? How do you want it to end? For many romcom the answers are as follows. 1. Tell a story of people falling in love, accepting their feelings, or dealing with the problems of love. 2. Having to deal with others not accepting the romance, accepting that you need to make an effort, or realizing yourself and having courage. 3. Since we are talking about Manga and anime most are not long. 12 episodes is typical for anime. Manga have around 16 or 24 volumes depending. It comes down to, unlike American (western) cartoons and comics, telling new stories with new characters more frequently. Western comics like to rehash the same characters all the time. They throw in new ones from time to time, but Japan (and by extention some other eastern comics) they are telling far more stories with different characters. They want to tell a part of a story and let the rest be filled in by the audience. 4. This honestly is part of what story you want to tell. With romcoms there are basically two ends. The first is they start dating, the second is they are not dating but it is implied. Most fall into the later as some have multiple girls or guys that are an option and leave it up to the audience to decide who end up with the MC. This approach can leave some stories feeling hollow and requires a delicate writing technique that makes people feel satisfied. Let's side step romcom and look at Neon Genesis: Evangelion. That anime was notorious for its confusing ending and basically unfulfilled conclusion. Thus not one, not two, but 3 movies were made to actually conclude the story. Every story needs to end at some point and it needs to satisfy. Romcoms are weird because we almost never see the full development of the relationship AND on top of that the relationship continues after the ending anyways. We can assume they live happily ever after, but we don't know they do. They could divorce, get into an accident, or many other things. However, we don't really need that as we are watching for the development of love and accepting the other. The anticipation of the eventual romance. I think Clannad wrote this best. Most people knew how it would end and who he would end up with, but it felt like a typical almost harem like one. However, it concluded very well and even the other characters recognized what is going on and realized they are not seen in that way. Some stories they are dating from the beginning and it is a story of how strong their bond is. So, Uzaki is more of a story of a budding romance she wants to happen (this is why we hear her thoughts a lot more than his in situations like this) and how he was isolated and she stirred everything up. She now makes him happy, but since they are around eachother they take it for granted. Thus the best way to actually make him realize how much he cares is for her to suddenly distance herself. He will feel some peace, but realize he got used to her being around. He has had more fun, more excitement, and just in general love life more with her around. This is closer to a slice of life with romance and comedy as it doesn't really have any conflict. It is short bits of their developing relationship. In real life if you rush into any relationship it will be hollow and when the passion fades you typically come to realize you don't actually like the person you are with. It takes time to bond, get to know another person, learn about them, find flaws, find out who they really are, and come to love every aspect of them. The whole idea is friends before lovers, because if you cannot see yourself hanging out with them as just a friend doing something....you just see them as a sexual partner not an actual long term lover.
@@blakedavis2447 specifically they knew eachother a year before college due to club. Then in college he met back up with her and basically didn't acknowledge her for a year. She got fed up with that and became aggressive the second year about being close. Thus, really they only knew one another for around a year. The rest of roughly 3 years they were acquaintances.
