    Very poor video. 4 minutes of rolling robots !
    What do they do, where does the produce enter the system, how does the robot pack the crate, how do the crates move.
    VERY uninformative.

      Yeah. I just found this channel today and have been rummaging through the video selection and although there are many videos that seem interesting, I found pretty much all of the ones I tried so far to be uninformative and disappointing. They all have this weird smoke and mirrors BS thing going on, where they seem to try to hide the fact that they deliver almost no actual information with a lot of repetitive video material of shit moving around. What I mean is, I don't just have the feeling of having watched a badly made video, I get the feeling some scammer is trying to bamboozle me and jingle a set of keys in front of my eyes, like I'm a baby. There seems to be a weird and counter intuitive market on TH-cam, of science and tech themed videos, made for really low IQ people. I don't get it. Are people who are too dumb to notice how bad, hollow and empty those videos are, really that interested in this science and tech stuff?

      The robots pick up the crates and carry them inside their bodies. It's not hidden as such, just that no-one thought of making them transparent. You can see them reaching down into the crates, at some points. They're not "just rolling around", they're pick and packing. The more and faster they move crates, the more efficient the warehouse is.

      TBoy205 under neath the robots there is another floor and on that floor employees are organizing orders and placing them in crates for the robots to take and organize. Also in the video it shows that the robots are just rolling around the grid but what they are actually doing is organizing order, picking, and packing orders. The video doesn’t show very good detail of what they are doing but most of the operations that you can visually see is under neath the robots on the floor below them.

      Imagine a single robot with 1000 arms.
      Now imagine those arms are not arms, but just extensions of itself that it can interact with the world via, now imagine they're wireless.
      It's a single AI mind controlling a disjointed body, uses lasers to detect when it moves past a square on the grid and the AI tells its body how far to move, when to stop, what it should see, what it should do.
      If it sees something other than predicted beneath it, it investigates and waits for new instructions.

    More information on what the bots are actually doing would be really great.
    Do they get assigned one persons order each and travel around until they have all the items, then deliver them to an allocated slot? Or is there one bot per grocery item delivering their one item to all the customer crates that have ordered the item? Or do the bots only replace empty grocery crates? As shown?

    • @Sam-wm5cv
      @Sam-wm5cv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It is like in a normal warehouse with people doing it, robots have assigned an station and, that station has assigned a list of items. Robots pick up an item and drop it into a tote

    • @clarkkent7973
      @clarkkent7973 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is like the Amazon robotic fulfillment centers with robots moving shelfs. Each bot moves one tote filled with all of the same item. The totes for one order are all collected together in one long line. At the pick station, the item(s) from the totes are place into the customer order. The totes returns to the grid via the robots. By the way, the pick stations are primarily humans and not robots like shown in this video. Robots are currently not good at handling things like eggs. It should be also noted that each spot in the grid can be up to 7 totes deep (all of the same item).

    An explenation could help. These robots are basically digging for a tote , picking it up , holding it inside the robot and than bring it to a human pick station. There the operator picks one or more items from the tote and puts these in a client carton. In the video you also see a cobot doing some picking. Still humans are more efficient for this last stage and able to arrange stuff in a box without braking the lot.

    Wow! This is a very nice concept.
    There are a few things which don't help understand if the stated robots are indeed robots or simply PLC controlled trolleys.
    The grid of crates can be seen as an N×M grid of fixed dimension p×q cells and considering the know speed of trolleys and M trolleys, all one needs to do at the back end is to right an algorithm to move the trolleys in direction(seek cell, restore cell, destination) and ensure collision avoidance. All of this can be done through PLC and through ATC, within a stupulated time, a trajectory change if needed for trolleys be programmed or the number of cells to go can be sent in real time. The logic control for this application may be simpler than that for Uber.
    At the crate filling end, the robotic arm is not shown to be more than one that allow bar code scanning. But this part is more AI than the one on the grid, however still simpler than robotic arms in car assembly lines.
    The question is : Is AI needed for applications for which PLC is just enough.
    But it is still a very amazing achievement to be able to 65k orders per week. Good for warehouses, meaning large e commerce companies, but an overkill for retail.

Wi-Fi would have deadspots or require complicated system of switches and access points. Easier to put up 2 or 3 cell transmitters

      Why not use AI and upload the order to the robot on it delivering its load? I've seen a lecture theatre on TH-cam with drones flying around like bees who don't collide. To me the system on display hasn't embraced AI either due to costs or incompetence in the procurement process. It's the need to hold onto the scanner pick methodology when paper picking thought should have been embraced. Too many management imbeciles in this industry to make progress on any meaningful level.

    Wonderful technology that *will save time for the people,* and also will save the fuel that they need to drive to shops. The delivery to many people is more efficient, than driving for every order back and forth to the location of the shop.
    Shopping is still fun, but people will do it for fun only, not because we are required to go to a physical store.

    Interesting footage. From the video, it appears each basket contains a different product and multiple baskets are stacked below. Presumably the robots can lift off the top basket when empty, and a full one is lifted up to take its place. But how does it know where to reach within the basket and which method of lifting to use? Must be multiple arms as a suction cup wouldn't work on a pack of crisps... perhaps they are specialized with different lifting methods, would explain the colour coding of their tops.

      Automation has brought about numerous benefits to different industries and economies around the world. One of the most significant advantages of automation is that it increases productivity, efficiency, and accuracy while reducing the time and costs of production. By automating repetitive, mundane, and physically demanding tasks, human labor can be shifted to more creative and value-adding activities.
      Historically, simple tools such as the plow, wheel, and printing press replaced laborers and revolutionized entire industries. Today, robots and other automated technologies are replacing human labor in tasks such as assembly line work, packaging, and material handling. However, this does not necessarily mean that automation will lead to job loss. Instead, it can free up human resources to work on higher value tasks, such as product design, research and development, marketing, and customer service.
      Furthermore, automation can create new job opportunities in areas such as maintenance, repair, and programming of the machines. As new technologies are developed, new skills are required, and individuals can adapt to these changes by retraining and learning new skills. By integrating automation, businesses can become more competitive, reduce costs, and increase their profitability, which can lead to expansion and the creation of new job opportunities.
      In summary, while automation may displace some jobs, it can also create new opportunities and improve efficiency and productivity in the long run. It's important to remember that automation should be used to complement and enhance human labor, rather than replace it entirely.

      The problem is though that this is taking low skilled work from the poorest parts of society who are then demonised for being on benefits when they can't get a job, assuming you they are in a country that even pays benefits/welfare. Nobody ever considers the fact that as we further introduce this you are going to increase the numbers pushed on to welfare as the jobs dry up unless we start to rethink how we will find a way for those unable to get jobs to survive. After all look how many people were actually operating those thousands of machines instead of all those machines being an employee. Meantime the companies pocket even bigger profits with lower wage bills to pay and the rich get richer again. Let's be honest, they've never been too fussed about how average joe on the streets survives.

    For all who saying how this works is simple, underneath the grids are baskets full off products, the Robert travels to a slot on the grid and picks up the product from below, different product have different weight, i.e so in other words a store will order just say 1 tuna tin which weighs 150grams, the Robert will picked this up into it self and move on to the next product on its list for that store, if the product is not picked for what ever reason the Robert will know due to its weight and will attempt to pick it later. For the Robert to do all this it has to be Manuel input in to the Robert system to know which slots to go to pick up products the store are out of stock off

      @brynleytalbot778 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Highly unlikely to form future warehouse needs. Ocado doesn't sell or own product. It's just a fulfilment agent. Most warehouses have to hold significant stocks to either fulfil internet or retail operations, or both, so space is the key to efficiency and this system simply doesn't meet those requirements taking up massive swathes of area that looks unoccupied in many places. You store vertically, not horizontally, to maximise space use. And pack bin storage to the brim not loosely as these are. A fulfilment agent NOT a retail warehousing or internet warehousing operation.

    Nice concept, if they can get the mantenance aspect right (as in hardware, software AND *capable* technicians). I work in intralogistics, and I very regularly see companies (including with the one from Jeff) boasting about all-automated warehouses, but fail to mention that it actually runs ten weeks a years. The rest of the time it would sitting still because in of a fault, not waiting for a part, but for someone able to come, undestand the process and troubleshoot the problem - logistics is one of the lowest paying industries so not many people are specialised in it, it is starting to catch up on others. I wish them the best nontheless.

      AutoStore is a TL-ASRS and maintains a global average uptime of 99.7%. An AutoStore system has error handling software that sections off a portion of the grid when a robot has an unrecoverable fault and the rest of the system is allowed to continue operations. Some issues do trigger a system shutdown, like when the robot loses communication with the wireless access points, but those are quickly resolved by removing the robot to the maintenance bay. Naturally this isn't total automation since the system still requires human monitoring and intervention, but it still delivers impressive throughout and scales well.
