I have to say, it's pretty surprising!!!

Citric acid and vinegar are not mordants. They are binders which change the pH of the water (more acidic) to help the colour bind to the yarn / fabric. But this effect doesn't last, so the colour will wash out or fade pretty quickly. Real mordants assist the dye to chemically bind to the yarn/fabric.
Also, you should always keep jars, pots or utensils used for dyeing separate to those you use for food. You talked about safety and then used hydrangea which is toxic!

Thank you for doing this video. I’ve been interested in solar dyeing, I don’t want to use acid dyes, too intimidating for me. I’m interested in using turmeric, how much would you use? Also, I loved it that you had your darling daughter help you! Can’t wait to see the results!

Totally up to you! You could look up measurements I'm sure, but I've done like a tablespoon and gotten some pretty intense color. That is POWERFUL stuff. But that WILL STAIN EVERYTHING it touches, so just be careful!

@@fiberandfox I've used red geraniums - made tan; dandelions - made green; yellow onion skins - made an orange/yellow; orange daylilies - khaki green; burgundy/orange lilies - blue. I am looking forward to trying some fall mums.
