One of the most soulful instruments i ever heard. Although it can also be played in a festive way too. This is definitely Areminian more than Arab after the slow intro. Armenian like Greek music has a tendency to be something you want to move, groove and dance too. Although im sure Greeks and Armenians have thier dirges, adagios and minor key music per the occassion the oud is the mother of all lute and guitar like instruments. it is said there is archaelogical evidence of it in Pharoanic Egypt around 3,000 years ago. In ancient greece poets would use a small harp and strum it to the same notes maybe 6 strings meaning just 6 notes. The Islamic Moors brought it to Spain after they conquered it in circa 8th century.

@@danielyasin5054 you might know this already but for those who don't: Turks were influenced by Armenians and other natives of Asia Minor/. This is well documented in "Western Armenian Music: From Asia Minor to the United States" bu Hachig Kazarian and has ample documentation in history and by ethnomusicologists. Also Hayots Lenasharkh above says is succinctly as well.

Turkish and Armenian ouds are smaller than Egyptian and Syrian ouds. They are usually tuned to a higher pitch, with Arab style ouds in a lower, darker sounding register. Lastly, they are traditionally less ornate than Arab style ouds to produce the most accurate sound possible, even though a professional model can still cost $2000-$4000 even without any mother of pearl designs like many egyptian ouds have. But there is little to no difference between a Turkish and Armenian oud, just the maker.

Turks and armenians should live friendly. Over the years the Turkish government is succumbing to european pressure. To me the turkish alphabet is one example of westernification of ottomans. After the genocide the armenians were significantly weakened and part of our people were conquered by european control. This was not a choice for many armenian families. Other remaining survivors relocated across the world and otherwise to istanbul. But wherever we go we try to preserve our identity just like most turkish people that I meet. Long live armenian and turkish culture. One of the oldest companies in the world is armenian/turkish. Read about zildjian
