My goffins is being treated by Dr. O & this was fascinating in depth of what we have discussed about him & the protocol is doing exactly what her research & application says it does. Fascinating discussion. Love u Dr. O
Thanks for these videos. A few days ago my world got crushed when I heard one of my green cheek conures has high concentration of borna virus. Now I'm oaranoid that all my birds gonna get sick. I'll watch more on it to get informed on this subject
Be sure to watch all four videos in the series. Dr. Orosz reminds bird owners not to panic over a positive test, as it doesn't mean your bird will get sick. Also, there is more than one test and not all are accurate. If your Vet didn't use the test they recommend in this series, look into having it run. Meanwhile, enjoy your birds and keep educated on the topic.
@@lafebercompany-official3250 Thank you so much. I've been watching the videos. I think it was a PCR test and ge has a scissors beak too. Isn't having scissors beak a sign of some type of illness?
Not necessarily. There are many causes for this. It could be genetic - due to their popularity, there was a rush to breed green cheeks. Sadly some breeders take shortcuts and they overbreed their birds or breed related birds. Once the first mutations were bred, again, there was a rush to breed more. Too many mutations have been developed over too short of a time period. Much of this was achieved through inbreeding, resulting in a lot of genetic issues. Green cheeks are presenting with illnesses and disorders that used to never or rarely be seen in the species. Poor handfeeding technique can also cause scissor beak. Another cause can be a nutritional deficiency or an organ issue such as liver or kidney disease. An early injury in the nest or later injury can result in scissor beak. If it is caused by a misalignment, causing the beak not to naturally be worn down, frequent shaping by a dremel can correct it. But this is a lifetime treatment that should only be done by a qualified Vet. The cost as well as the stress to the bird usually is not worth it because most parrots can eat with no problem with a scissor beak.
We are so sorry for your loss. This is a devastating disease, but at least they are understanding more about it. But it is so sad to give one a second chance like you did, only to lose him.
Then you will finally have that "I get it!" moment! Yes it is complicated. I think the best explanation is where Dr. Bob talked about finally proving that PDD can happen without Avian Bornavirus.

I have a lovebird who was diagnosed with ABV then PDD at about a year and a half old. He is still with me but has digestive issues and lack of emptying. He has in the last several months started plucking around his chest and collar Bone. He is on Celebrex and I do think he is in pain. He does not like to be touched in that area either. I have other birds as well and am going to be getting them tested especially my macaw who shakes. She will be 20 in April and had a horrible accident in 2014 so rarely flies…anyways thank you so much for these seminars
I’m sorry I got distracted and couldn’t pause this. My lovie Jasmine he is now 3 and has had luperon series given to see if it would help the picking and I have not noticed much or the feathers would start to come back and he would then repluck. I hope we can find a good regimen so he can live a long time but seeing him and how down he can get has me worried. He does hang with other lovebirds and one is his best Buddy who they regurgitate to each other a lot. I know you mentioned passing laterally but also in the urine (fascinating). How high of a risk do you feel it would be to pass this to my healthy lovebird through not constant but a lot of regurgitation? Thank you so much all of you for the continued info and seminars!!
My blue gold is only 9 years old I’ve drove 2 hours to Jersey on a Saturday for emergency for fluids.. there’s nothing in eastern pa doctor wise.. they think and pretty certain it’s bornavirus virus my baby loss over 100 grams in 5 days. Around 40 grams every 2 days. She won’t eat or drink and it’s been a week and it throws up, it shivers and the obvious other sick symptoms.. the list would be to lone but the vomiting of her inflammation medication!! This is my baby I’m only 25 and I imagined my life with her and her to meet my babies in a year from now when we get married. I am so broken blood tests are normal and her spleen is enlarged.I can’t deal my heart is in so much pain she’s starving herself to death she’s anorexic.
This is so heartbreaking. Your Vets can see about consulting with Dr. Orosz. www.birdandexotics.com/ Please ask your Vets about prescribing EmerAid - this is what Dr. Orosz will recommend as far as emergency nutrition to help stabilize your baby. There is hope, but they need to act quickly and get in touch with Dr. O to get her stabilized. EmerAid can be shipped expedited once the Vets issue a prescription. Good luck and take care.
Yes! These have been out for a few years now, and we get great feedback on them. They can be fed at any life stage, but in particular are good for seniors and birds that have chronic conditions or just need an extra boost.
Chewy carries the Parrot & Cockatiel in Senior Bird Nutri-Berries and PetSmart and Petco carry the Parrot size. Many local pet and bird shops carry them and you can always ask the shop owner to order them for you. You can also buy directly from us lafeber.com/pet-birds/bird-food-and-nutrition-products-2/ Or call us at 800-842-6445 to ask about a retailer near you that carries them.
@@lafebercompany-official3250 neither my Petsmart nor my Petco have them on the shelf, I'm lucky if they have a stale tub of the macaw cockatoo nutraberries on their shelves. I Frequently have to order it on Amazon or Chewys. I have been looking for more Emeraid for my parrot. It's overpriced at my avian vets office and I'd like to keep that on had. I have a macaw that I used that on before. She loved it
Unfortunately Petco has their own system for stocking their stores. If you order directly from us, you will get the freshest product right off the line. All of our diets store well in the freezer.
I don’t expect TV production quality but please be better prepared & structured. Start video after people are already logged in. I was about to stop watching, until the vet started her seminar.
These are informal webinars intended for pet bird owners. Viewers cannot log on until we begin the webinar. Rather than begin with a static image while people are joining us, as we do with our Lafeber Vet webinars, we choose to use the first few minutes to chat with the guest, make announcements or sometimes show a cute video or share a funny story with the viewers. Once Laura can see that most viewers are online, she begins the webinar. So either way you would be waiting, but the difference here is that you aren't staring at a static image. If you find 3 or 4 minutes is too long to wait for the presentation to begin, all webinars are available here on TH-cam a few hours after the live webinar ends. Thank you for your feedback.
So blessed to live close to Dr. O's practice and have her as our vet. Very informative!

@Lafeber Company - Official Thank you so much for the useful and detailed information. I'm learning much more from this channel
I lost my Blue and Gold Macaw to ABV on May 15, 2016. Devastating experience. He came from a rescue and was 20 years old.

I’m sorry I couldn’t quite hear what brand was manufacturing the Critical Care Diet she recommended….. does anyone know?
EmerAid by Lafeber. It is available through your Vet or by prescription.
What does she mean by “old world birds”
