- This week Jun and Daniel discuss a couple major trending news headlines in Korea. First, Min Hee-Jin (CEO of ADOR, HYBE’s sub-label for the K-pop girl group NewJeans) held a press conference to address her dispute with HYBE (Korean entertainment company behind BTS and other K-pop groups) which went viral for its authenticity and candor about the industry. Despite neither of our hosts being big K-pop fans, they do their best to break down the story for the audience. Why exactly did the press conference go so viral in Korea? What is some important context about Korean society and culture that can help people understand the country’s reaction to this press conference? New Jeans wasn't necessarily unique, so much as piggybacking off the nostalgia of BTS's Most Beautiful Moment in Life.
Many of their initial fans were ARMY trying to be supportive and appreciating the continued feel of what BTS had already done. The only difference was the Y2K packaging that is trendy with every Gen Z/A person today.
MHJ was given trainees from another label, $16million dollars in funding to start Ador, an entire floor of HYBE for her operations, and a ridiculous sweetheart deal that has poised her to cash out $75million dollars in November (probably not now because of all the hoopla and because she got exposed).
She tried to renegotiate that to $150million before HYBE pulled back and said, "Wait a minute....what are you trying to pull here?"
That is in addition to the $2million she makes annually. She is THE highest paid exec at HYBE, including the head CEO of HYBE.
Honestly, her success with New Jeans was a layup handed to her by HYBE and bolstered by the BTS fandom. The girls are cute and fun (and I have been a fan of New Jeans), but MHJ is an egomaniac who got caught trying to steal them away. Her only job was as an employee, just like if an employee designs a new Nike shoe -- it's still a Nike product.
Her press conference was a dog-and-pony show to distract from the fact that she hasn't cooperated with the audit. Any innocent person would have done so. And the other CEO who handed over his stuff had a document that listed a "media spin" smear campaign as part of their tactics to pull New Jeans/Ador from HYBE. She is a creative director who knows how to manipulate the public.
HYBE owns 80% of Ador -- if they wanted her gone just to have her gone, they would just vote her out and kept it on the down-low. But because what she did was illegal, they had to be public about the actions taken to pursue legal prosecution.
With ILLIT -- the only similarities is that they have five girls who dress in Y2K styling (they were supposed to be six, but one member dropped). ILLIT is more dreamy/fantasy/magic, and was planned that way from the get go.

MHJ originally came from SM Entertainment which HYBE had a run-in with last year over SM stock which Kakao wanted to purchase instead. Lee Soo-Man, the head of SM Entertainment, has no love for Bang Si-Hyuk. Don't be surprised if down the road Soo-Man is also complicit with MHJ's plan to destroy HYBE. Just saying. You guys need to focus on the facts and evidence of her stock options which was a gift to her.

Nah man, min heejin is the best creative director in history of kpop. She rightfully pissed after bang shihyuk and park jiwon betrayed her and copying her stuff. She might be sus but she got clean criminal record so your accusations are baseless.
@@MrRdlv'Her Stuff' isn't new child because the time it came from I lived through it. Can I as how old are you because if you think it's new then you must be very young. That's not a insult it just means you won't have seen it before. eg either you weren't born when it was the norm or just a little child at the time so you wouldn't remember but that's ok.
As for her record it wasn't clean when she worked for SM Entertainment. This you might not know about either if you are young which would be understandable so not an insult.
No one betrayed her as the concepts she's used are not Copyrighted and she never started them in the first place.
The other GG under HYBE are all different they only thing is they all come under the same company and have little bits that are similar which is quite normal. However if they were carbon copies of each other that would be a strange however one can't in any stretch of the imagination think they all look the same, sound the same as New Jeans.
As for her crimes they are going through the process of the courts right now. No one takes someone to court if they don't have clear evidence of a crime. Because the other person could sue them in court themselves.
The woman is still holding one to Company property and refused to comply with Company Audit. It is unlawful to not return company property it is also unlawful to not comply with a Company Audit. So she's already committing two Crimes. As the laptop is company property that she doesn't own. A company audit can be done at any time in a company by the owners or representative's of the Share Holders by law.
I understand that maybe you've never worked for company or business so might not understand laws regarding Businesses but that's ok it's a learning curve but some of already work in large companies that have share holders and some of us have studied Commence. I'm not saying you are stupid, I'm simply saying you don't have the knowledge base yet which is ok if that's not something you are studying or working within.
Any way I hope some of that helps you understand the situation a little better.

Wow the hot topic from korea,this is not a kdrama,people needs to see her as a ceo with a 10 years over experience in the industry with billion salary,just dont pick side and watch who'll survive in the battle,seeing as there is no real winner in every war

BTS came from BigHit Entertainment, started by Bang Si Hyuk -- and yes, they were nearly bankrupt -- recording albums in garages, being cut from booked broadcasts, and generally disrespected.
After BTS built up BigHit, they expanded into what has become HYBE.
BUT, BigHit is just another label under HYBE -- the same as Ador.

No so not anything new or ground breaking in any way. it was a copied from the 90's American and UK girl groups, and also copy of a Jpop girl group. I lived through the 90's.

It’s taking 1 weeks to analyse and investigate the situation. So it’s depends on us if the situation is logical or not, but that was ourselves opinion from issues review with not taking which sides we wanted to be with. This is buisness partner problem.
And the problem is why MHJ want more money? from 100% shareholder stocks, she got 20%. And NJ just debuted around 2 yrs and also still under contract with hybe label (Don’t forget the girls is hybe trainee that giving to her) And now why she want bring NJ out from the labels? After get the popularity and then get out from there but how the contract?? The girls contract is not yet expired??? So, what do you think about that?
From 100% stocks hybe got 80% motherships of the company to Ador and Mr Bang give 20% to MHJ. Hybe build the company for her to create a new brand but she destroy it. Another thing, she not satisfied with Hybe artist. Don’t she forget where is hybe came from before. That company was belong to BTS and Ador belong to Hybe. The girls (NJ) still have a long ways to go. She is so confidently to bringing NJ out from the main labels. She’s a master manipulator person. Very unprofessional workers and partner in business.

No ADOR wasn't doing better than the other Labels within HYBE. Of Court BigHit (BTS) label were the biggest money earner even while they are all doing their military service.
The ADOR label were the fourth label down the list when it come's to earning revenue. Sorry we ARMY are adults so we tend to know far more about what's going on and many of us have share's in HYBE so we have a big vested interest not just because of Bangtan Sonyeondan(BTS) but also because of we put a lot of money ourselves into the company with our purchasing power. Many of us are from Business backgrounds, Lawyers, Psychologists, Doctors educated people who are also music lovers of different genre's of music but not really Kpop stans. It's in the courts hands now and the courts have rejected her plea to postpone the case.
What sparked all this was Ms. Jin renegotiating her contract in February and not getting the MONEY $$$ she wanted. She was completely prepared. She is a creative director, marketer, branding expert #manipulator. Her disheveled 14 year old unwashed face wsif look, was designed to make her look small and weak against the "big bad giant HYBE". International fans didn't buy her narcissistic gaslighting for a minute. She is tne highest paid executive in HYBE, she was given a group that had already had training so it cost her nothing. She was given 18 million dollar budget to debut them. She wss given 20% stock in Ador (not bought at reduced price, but given). She was given the Top Floor of HYBE(the building that BTS built). She was given a golden ticket but got greedy.. Can't get my head around K Netizens aligning with a textbook narcissist.
she played to their 'oh i'm just like you a poor worker and the big bad CEO is oppressing me.' Well if I were a CEO, earning the money she was earning and knowing in few months my share's option was going to net me a 70plus millions I'd gladly take the job. I'd be skipping up and down the HYBE corridors, singing Mr Bang's praises thanking my team for working hard with me and giving my group a bonus payment out of own normal salary. But then I'm not a nastie greedy snake in the grass like Miss Min.
I feel sorry for New Jeans they are very young girls who shouldn't be under her control. They'll require counselling sessions now.
She was problem when at SM with her sexualisation of minor's she shouldn't be around young people she's dangerous. Far too many red flags for her to be working with young people.

BTS are known rule-breakers with far more freedoms than other acts (cussing in their songs, criticizing the government even back in their debut days, etc). It's actually because of them that more artists are finding more freedoms. Most BTS fans fully support the guys having their own lives -- only the sasaengs get angry about it.

All of this happened because of le sserafim got invited by coachella. MHJ still not satisfied with hybe ceo. Hybe really mad at her because she don’t understand the management process. The reason why hybe didn’t allowed the NJ to debut 1st because they are so young on that time. But since the MHJ shamans said it’s rabbit year time for you ti glow up.
