    I'm imaging an imposing shadow of Beethoven overlooking Brahms as he tries to write something as good as him
    "you don't know what it means to the likes of us when we hear his footsteps behind us."
    - Brahms

  • @hobbes9513
    @hobbes9513 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Brahms did have an inferirority complex. There‘s a story of him visiting a friend who offered him a fine vintage, saying it was the „Brahms among wines“. Brahms rejected and replied that if that were so, he would like a glass from the „Bach among Wines“.

    The one modern chamber piece that really stands out for me is Messiaen's Quartet For The End of Time. The story of how it came to be is both harrowing and inspiring, and it's just hauntingly beautiful to listen to.

    • @ClassicsExplained
      @ClassicsExplained  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We are not claiming that Corelli invented chamber music by any means! He's just a good place to start as far as popularising the sonata da camera goes. Of course, there were many other great composers out there - often whose music has not been truly appreciated - but we thought Corelli is certainly a well-known precursor to the nascent chamber music genre of the time
