Now a word from eddie trunk. Me and james were best friends and i told my other best friends the scorpions to hire him, and when he pulled the crap at the airport i told my best friend klaus to fire him. I hooked up him with my other best friend athena and i baptised thier child
James Kottak was in Montrose in 1986.
Did not know that. Then I saw him. Montrose played down here with Allen Holdsworth
RIP James Kottak. Solid drummer. I actually enjoyed what he did on Warrant’s Ultraphobic album. A New Revenge was a pretty cool band too. Very tragic when someone dies with so much life left to live.

Yeah, fired for drinking too much from the Scorpions. I liked Kingdom Come the original line up and he was good enough to play for the Scorpions for years but his drunk antics got him fired and he restarted Kingdom Come and was so drunk he fell over his drums and was playing out of time. It's sad he couldn't beat it. My friends dad was a super bad alcoholic as well until he quit cold turkey and it caused him to have seizures and it killed him. I suspect but don't know that's what occurred here.
James had issues. But we all do. Some are not as bad as others. Some are worse. He wasn't a Saint, sure. But I've personally never met a Saint in my 57 years on planet Earth. James was a human being. Flawed and damaged. A decent drummer. A father. Rest easy, James.

My brother died at 48 from booze related issues, A old friend just died at 53 from liver cancer,

My friend's husband died from alcoholism at 38 just last July. He kept it so secret from her she had no idea how bad it was until it was too late. He looked so yellow from the cirrhosis towards the end.
I saw him perform with the Scorpions, great drummer.

Like you Ralph, I didn't/don't , follow/keep UP with -"who's the who in which 80's, 90s ROCK band etc. currently" BUT...Being a former drummer AND alcoholic (11 years plus sober NOW) and I hear/view THIS video about this guy (I never even knew of) and so forth? To be from friggin KENTUCKY, and ya end up DRUMMING for the SCORPIONS, and ALSO? Was married to Tommy Lee's sister ? (obviously, DON'T know nuttin about her either, other than her being Tommy's sister/seeing her on CRUE docs And, pretty darned HOT as well so...) So yeah! I'd say the dude DID pretty darned GOOD, while he WAS HERE on earth despite some of the negatives (prolly ALL stemmed from the alcoholism so...) YEAH! R.I.P. JAMES KOTTAK 🥁 🤘🔥🤘

He was a great drummer and person!
He was a good drummer and definitely a character... I saw him once with Scorpions and this guy ruined the whole show for me. His solo went on and on and on and on... I'm not sure how long it was but it was LONG and extremely boring with some bullshit going on the video screens, like him traveling through all Scorpions album covers. I'm not sure if the guys in Scorpions needed a long break in the middle of the gig to catch their breath but damn... that night I saw how you SHOULDN'T do a drum solo. Still, R.I.P. James.

Very sad. I'm friends with Athenas other ex-husband. He hated Kottak. Maybe this is his chance to patch it up with her.
I played with this guy in a band. I’m shocked he lasted as long as he did….Guys like this really bring light to the fact that exceptional talent is accompanied by mental issues commensurate with that talent. The singer in that band died as well. It was insane to me that so many broken people play this joyous music. I LOVED playing with those guys but those two emanated “DANGER”!!
