    For those concerned with the effects of hunting on wild populations, I invite you to research the regeneration and land protection program implemented in the United States paid for through money generated from hunting licenses and 11% excise taxes paid (by me) and other manufacturers of hunting equipment. This program has brought the whitetail deer, wild turkey, elk, and bison populations back from near extinction to stable and healthy animal herds. This is called the Pittman/Robertson Act of 1937.

    What a great video. That was such a good kill. That camera makes it look a lot farther away than it probably was. People have to realize what you did is almost impossible without skill and preparation. Plus all the the implements from the bow to the arrow and arrow head are hand made. Just the stuff took over 20 hrs in hand work. You earned that animal and you deserve a lot of respect. Love it.

    Great hunt Ryan. Experts often make it look easy. Until one has tried this sort of thing one has no idea how hard you have to work to get to that level of success. Sneaking up on the deer through long grass and water and holding your nerve that close in is is not something you can do without putting a lot of hours into your hunting and to make all the components from nature and to balance them harmoniously together in the tool set is a greater feat still. Then you often still have to put in enough hours to be lucky. The viewer only sees the success not the hard work. Thank you for the inspiration.

    What a legend.
    I just thought of a question about primitive hunting. It looks exhausting to walk for long periods of time, yet you commonly hear from anthropologists that hunter-gatherers would jog after their target for days until it became exhausted and easily hunted. Do you believe that was plausible based on your experience?

    • @huntprimitive9918
      @huntprimitive9918  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know it's plausible to an extent through some of the tribes in Africa, but only through what I see on documentaries. Animals like deer can outrun and disappear in seconds. It's not a plausible plan in my experience. I have seen animals being chased long distances with vehicles that still get away. Walking however isn't much of a big deal. We sometimes walk upwards of 8 miles a day when hunting. I can walk for hours and hours even at a pretty quick pace, but even then that is only until game is spotted and then the stalk begins

    • @rangerdanger222
      @rangerdanger222 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The technique you are referring to is called persistence hunting. I believe it is normally apply in open terrain during the hotest part of the day. The plan is to leverage the hunters ability maintain a lower body temperature through evaporative cooling. From what i have heard the technique isnt supposed to take days but hours. Running seems difficult to modern humans because almost all of them are overweight. Im basing most of this on a book called Born to run.

    • @MiaogisTeas
      @MiaogisTeas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rangerdanger222 Also the game you take that way are completely different animals. Most swift animals like deer are able to run faster for longer than humans, and the energy expenditure of following one of those would negate the net benefit.

    Anybody questions the validity of hunting check out the newest Nova program which was on PBS this last week. It was titled The Fear Factor and had to do with the relationship between predator and prey animals. The point is that predation plays a major role in nature and helps keep a necessary balance between the animals, their food sources etc.

    • @3asianassassin
      @3asianassassin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should be noted, however, that human hunters, specifically western hunters, are not particularly good predators for the environment, mostly due to the most common philosophy on hunting in the US and for rich hunters especially. Unlike people like Ryan Gill or most Native American hunters, the majority of hunters actively seek out either the most or largest animals in an area as a method of flexing their ego rather than obtaining food, and their love of taking the healthiest animals in an ecosystem spit in the face of proper predation. It's also telling when these hunters, in spite of tons of evidence to the contrary, believe natural predators like wolves, coyotes, foxes, etc. are pointless and at best nuisances to shoot for fun.

    • @larryreese6146
      @larryreese6146 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@3asianassassin I agree with much of what you just stated, and it is troublesome to me that many younger hunters are more geared to the killing of the animal for nothing but macho bragging rights. Most of them dont know the difference between an ash tree and a persimmon. It wasn't always so and with many hunters it still isn't. But our sport has become so commercialized and distorted in recent years by gun companies, the NRA, and big business that it hardly resembles what it was when I was growing up. We've lost an appreciation of the experience over the result. Sometimes the easy way is not the best way.

    I have a request - would you put a little more of your stalking, pre-shot movement, blind setup and other spot and stalk and still hunting techniques into your videos. I know they would be longer, but your techniques would really help a lot of people, since the hard part is getting to the point where you can make the shot and you consistently do that well.
    Thanks for all the info you do put up on youtube.

    Yeah greenbrier is one of the things I don’t miss about living in South GA. We called it baboo vine there. I think smilax is it’s proper name. The tips of it are edible, but the one shown in the video is more bitter than the bigger variety. Glad you had a successful hunt.

    Thank you so much ryan once again , im a keen watcher of your channel , have my own primitive school in UK ! i wondered if you have a video on which animals to hunt and when e.g male or female , age of them , which months of the year to hunt , all the kind of info on logistics of the hunt to keep in line with the regeneration and care taking of that species .. or do you just go out and hunt anything? thanks again johnny

    • @huntprimitive9918
      @huntprimitive9918  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you very much. I don't have a video on that because different animals at different times of year in different regions will breed and birth at different times of the year. Here in America, our hunting seasons are based on biological study to not interfere with birthing seasons. In historical times however, depending on food availability, many animals were specifically preyed upon during more vulnerable seasons because food was life. In most cases, animal populations didn't suffer much drop in numbers with primitive hunters. It's the HUGE numbers of modern hunters shooting animals at hundreds of yards away with rifles that make animal population management a necessity in modern times.

    I have to say even though understand the pro hunting arguments and see some wisdom, this guy is very strange saying a animals is beautiful right before he kills it mounts his kills then stands in front of their. Heads and regales the tale of there deaths with almost orgasmic delight very strange and unsettling seems anything you can hunt he slaughter with abandon and delight we for. O other reasons it gets his jollies off if your hungry sure if you are culling sure if they present a danger sure. But for heads or to get your rocks off NO and total transgression shame,shame one day you will harvest a recompense
