    Looks like a nice one.
    My personal favorite is a Marlin 336 in .30-30 Winchester. It's more of a close range gun ( 100 to 150 yards ), but is powerful enough to drop even black bear reliably at that distance... though I don't know if lever action rifles are very popular in your country for hunting. The Marlin 336 is an American classic and popular for many, many years.

    Congratulation on your new 404! It‘s a great rifle. I got my first Sauer many years ago and picked it up at their factory, when they were located in Eckernförde, a small town in Germany not far away were I lived. My old 202 is still my favorite. But the 404 has some improvements for sure, exspecially the safety and the trigger system. If you want to change the barrel it‘s really no big deal. Just get a small torque wrench and make sure to varify trajectory at the range afterwards. There are only two small things I wish Sauer made for this rifle. 1. A short and a long action and 2. An intigrated Picatinny rail. Weidmannsheil!

    Hello Sir! I am very grateful for all your videos and especially the reviews, I feel your opinions are honest and based upon experience and knowledge! Since I am probably going to buy a Sauer 404 in a near future I would be very very grateful for a review on handling, accuracy, feel, compared to itself and other rifles you've had. I would be very glad for this and it would be much appreciated.

    That is a beautiful rifle Dr. Wako. Your review was very interesting. Can you tell us why you chose to go with the ,308 in both rifles over the .30-06? Thanks

    • @virtuovice
      @virtuovice  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The small casing of .308 delivers the same bullet at the same velocity with 4 grain less powder with less recoil. I personally don't need the powerfulness of .30-06 but the accuracy of .308. Thanks.

    Check out the HK 630/770/940 (SL6/7) it's got polygonal rifling so there are no lands or grooves, it looks like a kaleidoscope when you look down the barrel... the bullet forms to the barrel contour and it retains more gas pressure as the bullet leaves the barrel. It fowls significantly less and lasts a very long time, it's also incredibly accurate!!

    Thanks for your video, very nice bit of kit. I have only one real concern to the design of the rifle. The receiver is aluminium and the scope mounts are steel? Given time and frequent mounting and unmounting of the scope is there a chance of the mounting system wearing and becoming loose.??

    Virtuovice, very interesting video, very interesting rifle. I'm impressed with that adjustable trigger weight system. Nearly all attempts to offer an easy to adjust trigger on factory rifles have been based on the savage accutrigger. This is legitimately innovative and not just a copy. A question for you...do you have to re-sight the rifle after taking that scope off and on or does it hold it's point of impact consistently? If so, very impressive system.

    • @virtuovice

      101 is $3100 and 404 is $4500 here. The Universal mount is $650. I think 404 is worth the money. Its performance outperforms 101 for the money difference.

      I am satisfied with its weight balance which is not barrel heavy and allows me to hold it very naturally and deliver a 168 grain bullet with less recoil. What I don't like is its scope mount which is a couple millimeters higher than my Sauer 101's though it is not a big issue. Its trigger is bone dry literally. Thanks.

    Dr which rifle ( 101 or 404) has a better bolt handling in terms of feeding a bullet and racking the bolt? And which one is more accurate ?

    • @virtuovice
      @virtuovice  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The single column magazine of the 404 is rather hard to feed from and makes noise while the double column magazine of the 101 is smooth and silent. Bolt motion itself is the same between the two but the cocking slide of the 404 is highly appreciated. The accuracy is the same between the two, but the scope mount is a little too high on the 404. You will not regret whichever you take anyway. Thanks.

      @reidstoyberg4287 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm not suggesting that a cheap scope that's at the bottom of the specs list for each brand can compete with the top of the line scopes. I'm suggesting that the more top end scopes from other brands such as vortex and Nikon can definitely compete with the top brands listed above without paying for the name and reputation.

    • @virtuovice
      @virtuovice  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 101 is a light rifle suitable for delivering a light bullet up to 150 grains while the 404 is a relatively heavy rifle suitable for a heavier bullet. The 3rd position of the 404's Quatro trigger feels almost the same heavy as the 101's crisp trigger in the field.

    About a year ago I bought a Sauer Classic XT 404 in 30-06 caliber. I have used the rifle very little so far. I am disappointed in the quality of the material, that is, the fact that the chamber/receiver is made of aluminum. By cocking, bolt rams into the receiver, causing damage. I am wondering if this is normal?

      smokin Joe sadly the 3006 has alot more up its sleeve when it comes to home loading. (Comming from a .308 sauer 404 owner). The .308 is filled to the rim from factory. The sauer 404 is a good rifle for having multiple barrels tho.

    • @smokinjoe1256
      @smokinjoe1256 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ya thats right...dusty is nice to play around for homeloaders...it can handle a bit heavier bullets...and more powder, if the barrellengths requires it.
      but on the other side, its a longer case...means longer rifle, much more recoil and less consistant powderburn..i own em both, overall i personally like the 308 a lot more.

    Thanks for the video. BTW, for the price of the 404, there are many US made rifles that are much more accurate (shooting 0.25-0.50 MOA groups). For your reference, the Ruger Precision Rifle out shoots the 404 (based on a friend's tests) and only costs less than 1/5 the price of the 404. You can get a gun from Surgeon, Tắc Ops, GA Precision, Defiance Deviant, McMillan... (they won virtually all the competitions, not the 404 or anything from Sauer) with superior accuracy for the same cost. Heck, even a tuned Remington 700 Police shoots more accurately than your gun (sorry) for about 1/3 the price. My advice is to get a cheaper rifle (yet more accurate, from Surgeon, Deviance, McMillan...) and use the extra cash for a real scope (NOT NIKON) from either US Optics, Trijicon, Vortex, Nightforce, Leupold...You will get better results. Texan Sharpshooter (who has killed many deer at 800 yards! If I had used the Nikon turrets, I would have missed 95% of the time at that distance. I use a US OPTICS scope for anything beyond 300 yards. Its tracking is 100% accurate -after 4500 rounds of testing.)

    • @_SWLW
      @_SWLW 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      J N That was so darn murica! Well it is hard to get a hold of alot of those rifles other places on the planet, outside of the US. For instance McMillan's, they are hard to come by in several asian and european countries, because of strict laws etc. And when it comes to optics, there are so many options from all over the world with great products. The majority not from the US tho, but some of the real good ones are, I agree. But you forget one of the main things that is difrent from hunting in the US. We shoot at way shorter distances and oftenly we have very little time to get our shots where they are needed. Its a difrent kind of hunt, based on the animal behavour and in the geographical aspect of it. Hope my english was some what understandable.

    • @_SWLW
      @_SWLW 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main point was that we dont need rifles way below moa, when we shoot at ranges up to maximum 200yards 95% of the time. Heck, its even hard to find shootingrangrs that offer more than 200 yards both in Asian and scandinavia/ europe.

    • @jn3750
      @jn3750 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "What country are you from? Do they speak English or not?" Then "bang" "bang"(mimicking Samuel L Jackson (**) in Pulp Fiction). Actually, your English is excellent. Just to clarify my point, I think Virtuovice should have a tier-one scope (one of the top 5 scopes below) to complement his nice, expensive rifle. Our club members recently completed a 2-month test of 19 high-end scopes around the world (in the range of 2.5 to 5K USD) using the following criteria: tracking & mechanics (40%), optical performance (40%), ruggedness (10%), features (5%) and reticle availability (5%). The following scopes were the top 5: US Optics B25 (US), Smidt and Bender 5-25 PMII (Germany), Nightforce Beast 5-25 (US), Leupold Mark 8 3.5-25 (US) and Vortex AMG 6-24 (US). Other scopes (from Hensold, Zeiss, IOR, Swarvoski came close to the top - some even possessed slightly better optical performance, but lagged behind in other factors). BTW, I think that if you can get the 404 in Japan, there should not be any legal reasons for the lack of availability of rifles from Surgeon, McMillian...as these are bolt action rifles, not M16/M4s or military style rifles.

    • @jn3750
      @jn3750 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here in the US many hunters believe that it is unethical to maim an animal. We'd rather kill it as quickly as possible. The difference between a 0.75 MOA gun (the SAUER 404) and a .25 MOA gun (a typical Surgeon/Deviance/MacMillan/TacOps rifle) can be quite significant, even at 200 yards (could mean the difference between missing the animal's heart - thus causing unnecessary suffering - or an instant kill). Further, as Whalen Townsend once said, only accurate guns are interesting. For a gun costing more than a good used car, 0.75 MOA simply does not represent a good value. And, slapping a mediocre scope on such a rifle is a rarity - I do not know of anyone (among dozens of rifle shooters) doing this. For serious applications, a general rule of thumb is to spend the same amount of money on the scope.

    • @vk3139

      And where i live most hunters would consider it unethical to shoot at a animal 200 yards away as you are then entering the range where outside factors really start to affect the shot other then the rifles accuracy, for the very same reasons.
      I know there are places where it is almost impossible avoid long shots if you want to get any animals at all, so i guess it comes down to cultural and environmental differences.
