He one of our best... whether playing Claudius or the Yana/Master in Dr Who... seriously thought just look by a teinkle in rye as he goes from a very gentle professor into the Master with just using his eyes! Amazing.
Amazing men, at any age. Love both of them, but, my heart is still clinging to Derek's Cadfael role. Amazing and wonderful. Ok, he was fab in Underworld as well... but, those roles as a mixed vampire and werewolf are far and few between. Love to both of these men and many more years of success!
Didn't know they were really gay. I've seen them in Vicious. Highly and mercilessly insulting of each other. So it was delightful to hear such high praises of Jocobi coming from Ian. Of course those were true feelings. But Ian got my attention a number of years ago in the Scarlet Pimpernell along with that gorgeous Anthony Andrews. But Ian was equally memorable. And of course Jacobi in I Claudius. What a challenge to have to play an entire series with a speech impediment. But they both are adorable men. 🌷
Sir Ian Mc Kellen was the actor I credit with my first realising I was gay. I knew his acting but when I saw an interview HD did for Stonewall and that was that.
I LOVED "Vicious"!!!! Wish I could find the entire collection. I never saw what happened after Freddie and Stuart got married and Stuart's mother died. What happened to Ash?
With my eyesight, I hope I would recognize either of these two living gemstones in a supermarket. Or if I did, I hope I would not freak out the way that some might.
If I ever saw Sir Ian McKellen in a supermarket aisle and I somehow *hadn't* lost all my mental functions, I would undoubtedly yell out, "YOU. SHALL NOT. PASS!" If I ever saw Sir Derek Jacobi in a supermarket aisle, I'd start loudly singing the theme song for Cadfael. Simple.
Boredom is an Understatement "For the people but not of them"-"we must think of the children" The first Corvinus"do not whine about your adversary simply because you are weaker than they are."-"This is all far far from over" though not Dereks line fron Dead again. Though it was another veteran actor who said it in Gladiator"shadows and dust we are all shadows and dust." John Hurt has an amazing audience from Hellboy and V for Vendetta not to mention 1984 ,and above all King Ralph. "God fearing man? what a strange phrase" is what would come to mind if I saw Ian. Derek- well maybe from Basil-"There is something suspicious about a man who does a favour without expectation of recompense-what kind of man is that?" and Jared Leto responds-" a gentleman".
When I was about twenty I got a date with the towns most eligible doctor. On our first date I made him wait half an hour while I watched the end of Derek's Richard II. It was my priority!
Sir Derek Jacobi isn't gay, he remarried again, not long ago, to another woman and Sir Ian performed the ceremony. But Ian & Derek have been friends since early childhood.
That would all be news to Sir Jacobi. www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/9359513/Derek-Jacobi-I-dont-mind-people-having-faith.-But-it-aint-for-me.html
Career awards are worst when the honored one only won a series of Oscar nominations. What they did to Richard Burton was horrible. Although his marriages and divorces with Lizzebuz may have been a reason.
I don't know if this had anything to do with his appearance, but Derek was having treatment for prostate cancer at the time of this interview. Ian has had treatment for it as well.
Zhe Wang I don't know for Dereck but Ian only has his monitored (apparently there is the point in your life, where treatment starts to be more dangerous then the illness...)
It will never happen, of course, but I would love to meet both Sir Ian and Sir Derek, as well as Dame Maggie Smith. My live would then be complete. Of course, being 69, it better happen soon, as I don't have much time left.
Vicious was HILARIOUS!!! Absolutely ❤️
Who doesn't love these two men? Acting royalty indeed.
I can see the beauty in Derek Jacobi for it shines as bright today as it has always done.
National Treasures!!!! Love ALL their work!
Derek was quite beautiful when he was young. I’ve had a crush on him since I was 12 when I first saw him in I Claudius ❤️
Derek Jacobi as Claudius, Superb Acting!
He one of our best... whether playing Claudius or the Yana/Master in Dr Who... seriously thought just look by a teinkle in rye as he goes from a very gentle professor into the Master with just using his eyes! Amazing.
He was fantastic as Cadfael too!
Excellent!
He will always be Clau, Clau, Claudius to me.
Ian McKellen is better
No one mentions “Cadfæl” - which I think is the best work Sir Derek ever did.
Such a pair of legends
Love these two .Outstanding actors
Very down to earth and lovely men.
It’s like he’s interviewing Freddy and Stuart
*_With reverse personalities from their VICIOUS characters._*
Freddy and Stuart who? I have, often, wondered over these last 5 long years...
Oh, how glorious these two.
first saw sir Ian McKellen in the movie adaptation Richard III, and that was the version that did beat all others I saw.
Love these two guys.
so nice to see two older actors in a british comedy ..like in the 60s ..many comedies had older actors. and those days the comedies were superb
Capitals and proper punctuation is deemed supervacaneous in comments now... Sad.
Derek Jacobi is the best Hamlet ever. I would love an introduction.

Honestly I believe both of these gentlemen would be great to talk to and get to know without them being actors. Both are interesting .
VICIOUS IS GENIUS...WISH IT WENT ON!!!💋💋
I wish the full talk would be released somewhere
I LOVED "Vicious"!!!! Wish I could find the entire collection. I never saw what happened after Freddie and Stuart got married and Stuart's mother died. What happened to Ash?
No one knows that I'm afraid as the show wasn't continued. Sadly, cuz it was a brilliant sitcom.

LMAO!
If I saw either of them anywhere I would fall over in a dead faint.
You're just creepy
Yaaaasssssssssss
As I watch British actors they take care of the ones up in age. Here we forgot them
Thespians, theatre actors are far different from tv and movie actors. No comparison.
I sincerely hope that is changing today.
Two great men
I'd like to hear them argue about who wrote Shakespeare.
When I was about twenty I got a date with the towns most eligible doctor. On our first date I made him wait half an hour while I watched the end of Derek's Richard II. It was my priority!
what a great interview! is the full interview available anywhere?
I don't care if they are gay, I am thoroughly in love with the both of them.
Susanlucena New to me about Derek. He was brilliant as Claudius, super actor.
Sir Derek Jacobi isn't gay, he remarried again, not long ago, to another woman and Sir Ian performed the ceremony. But Ian & Derek have been friends since early childhood.

Most excellent, thank you VERY much for that article!!!!
HE,S POINTING OUT THAT YOUR A FUCKING IDIOT FOR MIXING UP SIR DEREK JACOBI AND SIR PATRICK STEWART
brilliant actors
Capitals and proper punctuation is deemed supervacaneous in comments now... Sad.
8:22 Ian McKellen like, “Mmmmm, I dunno, Derek…” 😂😂😂
Why just publish this highly edited version? The whole interview would be great to see.
These are GREAT actors. I hope they live to be a hundred and drop dead while getting Oscars. But the GOOD Oscars, not just career awards.
+xhagast One hundred and forty two, just to be safe.
At least.
I reckon the career Oscars are better then the rest, to be recognised for your career as opposed to a single movie
Career awards are worst when the honored one only won a series of Oscar nominations. What they did to Richard Burton was horrible.
Although his marriages and divorces with Lizzebuz may have been a reason.
"I could have played Gandalf" 😂😂
This is so chopped up...I want to see the whole thing.
Thanks.... Applause
Impecable impecable ambos...
They would be such a darling couple
I don't know if this had anything to do with his appearance, but Derek was having treatment for prostate cancer at the time of this interview. Ian has had treatment for it as well.
OMG. Are they clean now? I hope they are fully cured!
Zhe Wang I don't know for Dereck but Ian only has his monitored (apparently there is the point in your life, where treatment starts to be more dangerous then the illness...)

I hope your wish comes true!!!!
You are 74 now. Any luck?
Ian Mckellen was to play Dumbledore but had chosen Michael Gambon
You mean after Richard Harris died?
If he played Dumbledore I think the whole “Harry did you put your name in the goblet fire!” would have been a lot more extreme!
Is this the whole Interview???
Aisle 2 - YOU SHALL NOT PASS
Why does the interviewer look like Clancy Brown 👀
The Master and The Great Intelligence interviewed by Clancy Brown.
I'm surprised he didn't say.... Well I had a semmy
Only 31 likes?
Two National Treasures
2 amazing actor's, but why do they look so ill here?
Bad lighting.
martin cooper although they are immortal, their bodies aren't =P
Well they're old - 75 and 76. And I don't think the gay lifestyle makes for easy aging. But I do rather think they are sweet fellas inspite of it. 🌷
They're old, they are under bright studio lights and they aren't wearing stage make-up that you are used to seeing when they are acting.
Derek Jacobi is gay too?
jessie james very 😂😂
thanks. didnt know that..
I worked that out quite young. Long before I realised I was and long before he was openly " out".
Why do they have to show great british actors to folks who don't even know what they are talking about
What makes you think that?
It’s nothing to do with LUCK.. It all depends on one’s Vibrational Energies :). Namaste.
Mckellen needs to shut up. He's actually much less interesting than Jacobi.
