    Awesome!! I carve lots of ivory, ivory/exotic hardwood collabos. I’m very intrigued to see someone else carve with the same basic style in common! I’ve watched soooo many vids, and no one I’ve seen takes the same approach that I’ve seen so far except you! Fantastic work!! Thanks for making me feel better about how I get down! I’ve felt maybe I was some type of oddball or something!

      Kia ora Jeff.
      Yes it is nice to see others who have a similar style and approach. Many thanks for your comment. Hopefully I'll get some more vids online soon. Glad to hear that you are feeling better about your way of carving. All the best.

    Beautiful work! Have you ever thought about offering a class for people to learn bone carving? Also, could you make a video for your paua shell preparation? 😊

    • @bonecraft
      @bonecraft  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done some teaching /mentoring in the past. However I don't really have the equipment to run classes as such. I'm happy quietly working away on my own at the moment. :-) In terms of the Paua shell preparation, there is not much to it really. I get given some good shells and have basically just sanded the back of them slightly to take of the excess growth. I'll create something to show you over the next few weeks and combine it with how I inlay it into bone... :-)

      I got most of my tools from a jeweler suppliers and hardware store. They should be readily available. Good luck with your carving journey.

    Beautiful work! I am just beginning my journey into this medium. I have a rotary tool and my but and bit selection is growing with my experience.
    If you wouldn’t mind sharing, what method do you used for coloring the reliefs and (part 2) what is the apparatus on which you are resting your tool hand and supporting your work piece?

    • @bonecraft
      @bonecraft  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kia ora my friend. All good. I use tea to stain the bone and then rub it back with 400 gt sandpaper to being out the design. The apparatus is a homemade block of wood attached to a rectangular piece of wood so I can adjust it to different heights/angles. I cover it with an old cut off sleeve to pad it a wee bit. Works well for me. I would attach a pic of it if possible. Perhaps PM me through my @bonecraft.co.nz Facebook page and I can flick it to you. Hope that helps. Good luck with your journey.

    • @bonecraft
      @bonecraft  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a number of places depending on what tools you are referring to. I often use a jewelers supplier based in Auckland called Warburtons. They have been really great.

    • @bonecraft
      @bonecraft  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah you'll pick up a good one from Warburtons. Although my one is an air compressor driven one from Dimaond Tools Supplier in Auckland... very expensive way of doing it but good for high speed and allows for working under water.

    • @bonecraft
      @bonecraft  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am using a high speed micro grinder which is driven by an air compressor. Here is a link to the actual tool I use... www.uht.co.jp/en/products/airtool/grinder/5039010.html
      The other tool you might have seen at the beginning is my Bandsaw.

    I have no respect for anyone who does this kind of work with power tools. This isn't art, it's just pretension. It's a wannabe acting like an artist. It isn't even carving. I don't know how you can even look at yourself in the mirror.
