I met him in 2010 in Manchester and was a nervous wreck. I was present at his ceremony in St Andrews last year with my daughter. A day we will remember forever. That was decades ago, and I can't find it anywhere. If I could, I'd pay good money to have that again. Old Jack. A legend, but also...hmmm, I got some issues with his politics. Jack isn't just the greatest golfer of all time, he's a great husband, father, and grandfather. Jack and Barbara have done so much for their children's hospital and other charities, they are both amazing people. Mr. Faldo, you are the man! My dad who passed away a few years ago is the reason I got into golf. He watched golf throughout the 80s and 90s in early thousands when I was too young to watch. Every time a golfer would hit a shot he would say something like “that just like Faldo”, or “ that’s not how Faldo does it”… for the longest time? I thought he was talking about some wild, exotic, animal or bird. As I eventually grew into the game, I realized obviously you were one of the best golfers of several generations. I’m not proud to be able to teach my son about the joys of golf and the golfers the game before me. We miss you and your voice on the live coverage, but so glad you found a happy place. Good luck to you!

An incredible treat. I would read his books and advice in magazines on golf as a teen, and then attended THE Ohio State University where Jack of course was a legend - he and Woody. Playing Scarlet & Grey golf courses, you heard the stories from those who knew him, and it was a thrill to hear about his abilities to cut corners and drive past sand traps. Then I was able to attend tour events and follow him, and see his game up close and personal. I remember I was lucky once down the fairway and his ball landed in the rough practically by my feet. The green was blocked by a tree, and Jack walked up, took literally a few seconds to assess the situation, and boom, made his swing hooked the ball out of the rough around the tree, pin high. He looked over at those of us around him, slight smile, and off he went. OMG. SKILL! Always a gentlemen to the crowds, always in control even when facing intense pressure and difficult shots, easily the greatest golfer who ever played the game and no better ambassador for the game. The intelligence he shows in this interview is amazing. Go Bucs!

So, on the Sunday, I went to my local pitch & putt, and started my golfing life. Nearly 54 years later, I'm still playing, and still love the game every bit as much as I did then! Great interview Nick, you're another hero, and have made me a proud British, but, to me, Jack is absolutely my golfing hero. @sirnickfaldo thank you and Jack for a wonderful interview. Two things that resonated with me was the story of you both picking up the game, just you and the game, no one else needed and learning by watching. I knew nothing about golf, not even the rules and what I learned was from watching golf on tv, watching Jack most of all through the mid 80s when I was 12-14 yrs old. I recently found a video Jack made « golf my way » and low and behold, there was my adult swing. 40 years later still the same swing. I was never a good golfer, but what I know of the game I owe to Jack.

Love the stories and really love hearing two greats sharing golf knowledge. Sir Nick you should do an episode on Seve!!!…..with you and the original European soldiers- Langer, Lyle, Woosie, Jose…..throw in Jacklin….and just sit around a table with some scotch and a fire 🔥 telling Seve stories for an hour or two ….that would me magical viewing!!

Considering the relatively low tech golf clubs and balls that he plays with in his time, yes Jack must be Seen as the GOAT!
Thanks to Sir Nick Faldo for this good moments.

I met Mr Nicklaus in 2010 and had a few minutes alone with him and was a nervous wreck. As he was leaving I asked him what was his greatest shot was. He looked me in the eye and said "all of them" then left. God good when you think about it he treated every shot the same whether his putt across the green on 17 at the 86 masters or a hole out for a 76, awesome.

Jack was in the zone on the back nine in '86'. Unconscious!

I haven’t yet listened to this apart from the opening story about being late for a tee time. Having grown up as a teenager watching and owning instructions videos from you both, this deserves my full attention 👍

Great interview! I play golf for the same reason as Jack. I can do it by myself. I still like it when it's just me and my dog. My family was a golfing family. Caddied when i was 7. People think I love golf and I do but it is just something that I do. Part of my life.

Great assessment of tournament golf. Like David Feherty said, it's like exercising, it's fun having done it, not while doing it.

A very important point made by Jack and agreed by Sir Nick, that any newcomer should hear and apply: you never can be relaxed playing a round!
