Lake James Bucket List Fishing Trip - In Search of Smallmouth Bass in North Carolina (June 2021)

- Lake James is known for smallmouth bass in North Carolina. It has been on our bucket list for awhile and we were able to make the trip happen this summer finally. Definitely a place we will return to again Lord willing. Lake James is located in Western, NC and is about 3.5 hours from Raleigh. It is close enough to make a day trip out of it but better if you can make a weekend trip out of it. We did not catch any smallmouth this time so we have even more motivation to return again. Almost all the fish in this video were caught on a silver and gray War Eagle spinner bait. We fished the first week of June 2021. Enjoy the video!

Get Out Fishing was born out of a long time friendship. Jim and Brian grew up fishing in Tennessee and moved to North Carolina in 1996. North Carolina is a fisherman’s paradise. From central North Carolina where we live, we have access to all kinds of fishing. Saltwater fishing can be done along the coast, and freshwater fishing can be done in various lakes and rivers around the state along with trout fishing in the mountain streams of Western North Carolina. No matter what type of fishing we are doing, we are continually learning and we love to share what we learn about fishing with others. For us, fishing is about community and that is what we hope to create with Get Out Fishing. A community of people who love all types of fishing and who love sharing their passion for fishing with others.

Watch old buck perry videos on TH-cam. He knows exactly. He was raised on that lake.
He was indeed. He's how I found out about Lake James and one of the reasons I wanted to fish there. I'll certainly go back and check him out again.
You guys need to hit up lake toxaway in NC. Talking about clear as 10ft visibility. A lot clearer than James

Thanks for watching! Honestly been awhile since we were there so I don't recall exactly but it was very reasonable at the time. I think about $90/night. Went through VRBO.

Smallmouth activity is tough right now. Lots of small fish. Largies winning tournaments right now mostly
Thanks for your comments and that is great to know that it was not just us. The one I hooked and lost was small..maybe a pound. Any idea why the bite has slowed on them?
@@GetOutFishing it's normal this time of year. You have to target bait schools offshore. Bass may be in 80 ft of water suspended.

Great video & we love lake james, even if too many boats. I just wish soo many houses wasnt being built by the lake. The more wilderness makes the trips better, imo

Everyone I meet tells me that Lake James is a dead lake cause is very hard to fish. I fished it a couple times on a boat and its very hard. You guys did pretty good though.
Thanks for watching! We didn't get the smallmouth we were after but caught a lot of smaller largemouth bass. A lot of videos on YT showing people catching nice smallmouth but we couldn't find them. Going to try again this fall I think and see how we do.

I’m lake James. Water color matters. Don’t fish clear water. Old timers fish the lake facing table rock in milky water or murky green.. definitely not any clear water. It’s the way the old timers teach it
Interesting.... I could see that being the case... We fished a little of both but the one area I hooked into a small mouth and lost it, the water color was murky there.
@@GetOutFishing if you follow the advice that long old timer buck perry who has long passed away, you will master those Western NC mountain lakes my friend. Search him on TH-cam and there are many old old film clips of him teaching.
