Well at least the " Guggenheim " could hang shows on the interior walkways. This looks like there isn't even a consideration for that. Its about shallow spectacle and gazing into the centre. Instead of being more open , and meeting the land and community surrounding it .. We have absolutely failed to create a sense of wonder or hope in creativity when the architecture reminds everyone of a " modernist " building designed over 60 years ago. Such a shame as we have amazing talent in australia such as Murcutt / Boyd / so on. That can express the local character and find something valuable .. - I imagined the precinct was going to be about a sense of multiplicities and weaving all that together. Instead we got " monolithic " and " bureaucratic " in style. Then mostly useless in function since the top level is going to roast people for most months of the year. How is this progressive compared to " Nasjonaalmuseet " , the new " MIT Museum " or other real attempts at contemporary architecture ..
Sorry but it shouldn't be the building that makes the institution whole. It should be the artist's contributions it contains. This looks like a glorified cafe. Very disappointing.
This is the best news story I have heard this year.
