2 again (after ecclesiastes)
people come and people go - the earth goes on and on
the sun rises, the sun sets - it rushes to where it rises again
the wind blows round, round and round - it stops, it blows again
all the rivers run to the sea, but the sea is never full - from where the rivers run they run again
these things make me so tired - I can’t speak, I can’t see, I can’t hear
what happened before will happen again
I forgot it all before.
I will forget it all again.
David Lang (b. 1957), after Ecclesiastes 1: 4-11
"I'm tired, boss. Tired of bein' on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. Tired of not ever having me a buddy to be with, or tell me where we's coming from or going to, or why. Mostly I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world everyday. There's too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in my head all the time. Can you understand?"
Absolutely spectacular. David is a wonder, as is this choir.
A wonderful, but too short video, but, as a Merton College alumnus, very satisfying to watch and listen to - not as well known as, say the choir of Clare College Cambridge perhaps, but the voices are beautifully matched in harmonics :)
Lang grandissimo, emozione delicatezza virtuosismo. Ascoltare questi ragazzi talentuosi mi conforta. Si percepisce la passione del maestro. Bravi per aver scelto questo brano e per esserne stati all'altezza. Alessandro
Haunting!
A beautiful sound indeed, but what a pity the words were not displayed on screen
Apologies Bernard - have added to the video description. And here you go:
people come and people go - the earth goes on and on
the sun rises, the sun sets - it rushes to where it rises again
the wind blows round, round and round - it stops, it blows again
all the rivers run to the sea, but the sea is never full - from where the rivers run they run again
these things make me so tired - I can’t speak, I can’t see, I can’t hear
what happened before will happen again
I forgot it all before.
I will forget it all again.
