Nick Shabazz I'm afraid I don't understand, could you explain?Excuse me I'm actually Italian! I'll pick up the chance to compliment to you. great channel, great personality.
Nick, I love your knife review videos, especially the disassembly/reassembly of knives. Your videos help me decide about getting a knife in which I may be interested. I just ordered a Native 5 lightweight. I already have a Para3 lightweight and Sage5 lightweight and there’s nothing wrong with them - I’m just ready to try something new. Please keep up your good work. 👍
No washers is a surprise, for how smooth The Native feels. With a little use it gets even more smooth. I would have never guessed that it was just steel on the plastic handles. Thanks for another great video Nick!
I got mine traded a sog and 60$ for this with a combo blade in dlc and a zt which turned out to be counterfeit the spiderco was real though so I guess I about broke even
Oh, take care of yourself, have a good hot dinner and stay warm. We can wait and don´t do anything that could put in risk your lovely voice. Hope you get better
Just ordered the Cutlery Shop S90 exclusive. Believe I have the confidence now to disassemble if needed. Probably a good Spyderco for a first timer disassembly. Thanks.
I just bought the cutlery shoppe exclusive native 5, not a fan of back locks or orange scales but I really like s90v and for under $100 I didn’t want to miss out
Good to know disassembly is more straightforward and less problematic than the Seki City Spydies. Got a Native 5 in Maxamet due to arrive tomorrow. (fidget fidget)
I was lucky with the Massdrop “Blue Box” deal and I received the Native 5 Lightweight in S110V. Even when I got a good price ($90 vs $125), it is not inexpensive. I have learned not to worry about the lack of phosphor bronze washers. There are many Delica killers and this is one. It fits well in the 5th jeans pocket. It is easy to operate one handed, but it is not a fidget toy like a PM2. Spyderco usually molds the model name around the logo on their FRN scales, but not on this Native 5, so you will just have to remember the name. The bi-directionally grippy scales work well, as on the Delica 4 or Endura 4 in FRN. The scales seem reasonbly strong for EDC usage. It was nice to see the Native 5 Lightweight does is not the pain the Delica and Endura are in reassembly, without those plastic nubs having to fit into liners.
Thanks for the video. The way this doesn't have washers around the pivot was a deal breaker for me. Not a fan of plastic washers and the way the blade stock directly grinds against the handle material.
Wait a moment, Nick... did you notice how shallow the lock back bit in? I've checked your disassembly video of Chaparral, the lock was at least 50% deeper.
I’m curious: does the blade run against the FRN scales? Or does it run against the metal screw inserts? It seems like the screw inserts “stick out” a bit and sort of act as a normal washer would? THX for sharing.
Kinda funny...I have a delica and a rat2 in d2, love them both. I also have an old blackout lockback Native S30V full serration that I keep in my car (the idea was..a seatbelt cutter). I was cleaning out the car the other day, and snapped that puppy open, still a great knife--like you said, why don't I EDC a Native? So I started looking around to see what was available. And I was considering the new SPY steel, but I thought, I wonder if these LW Natives have washers (or if any of them do). I came to this video to find out--no washers. Now...I don't NEED another edc. I love the two I've been using. While I really like my other Native, if I'm going to EDC something, probably don't want serration. But I just feel like...if I'm gonna drop over $120 bucks for a knife, they could spare a few washers...you know what I mean? It's not like they would drastically change the weight.
I just bought a Native 5 with the compound grind blade. It has the single, large screw which secures the pocket clip into a recess (like the H1 series) - I know it's probably not rocket science, but have you done a vid for this? I just don't want to mess it up as it cost me quite a lot here in the UK. Cheers.
No washers. No liners. A plastic (essentially) handle. I just find I can’t part with my money for these types of Spyderco’s. It’s Chaparral all the way for me, the Lightweight version included- it has liners and washers and is beautifully constructed by the Taiwan factory. No comparison.
Hey nick, i have a manix 2 maxamet. Besides the locking mechanism is it basicly the same knife? thanks. You need to review some spiderco bob lums. keep up the good work
I am concerned that the FRN won't hold up as well as phosphor washers, nor will it be as easy to fix blade centering issues. Anyone have any really long term experience with frequent use that addresses this? It seems like they cut production costs a little too much considering the selling price.
Hey Nick, I'm assuming you like the Delica better than the Native (based on the fact that its in most of your videos, and the Native isn't). Looking at the two, I like the looks of the Delica better, but that's about all I can say without owning either. Why do you like the Delica more, and if I'm wrong, why the Native?
I was on the fence about this knife. I wasn't a huge fan of the manix 2 because of the ball bearing lock, it ruined an otherwise great knife for me. Then I found a Native 5 lightweight in the s35vn steel at a good price and I planned to use it as a lighter weight edc compared to my other, larger blade knives. Your disassembly video just burned a hole in my wallet. I had no idea how simple the internals of this knife would be compared to the manix 2.
Just think, if you'd have posted this video a few days earlier, the _Spyderco Jackboot Thugs_ would have kicked down your door, confiscated the knife and red loctited your hands to the mat. You dodged a bullet there.
NOTA BENE: Spyderco has now changed their warranty policy so that disassembly is A-OK and Red-Loctite is banished. For more information: th-cam.com/video/Ed0kzmsz0Qs/w-d-xo.html
Nick Shabazz Great knife! I have one just like it ;) I'd actually say identical! Lol
Nick Shabazz that "NOTA BENE" in full italian just caught me by surprise!
I assume you know it, but it means "notice carefully" :)
+Mattebodra Yep! You can take the jackass out of the lab...
Nick Shabazz I'm afraid I don't understand, could you explain?Excuse me I'm actually Italian!
I'll pick up the chance to compliment to you. great channel, great personality.
Mattebodra 'Nota Bene' is used still in academia, to mean just that. We're using it as Latin, but it's absolutely Italian too!
The man 👍 “ it s ugly but it’s life “ so true , famous words
Native 5 with wire clip, Steel liners and compression Lock would be the perfekt EDC knife for me. My dream knive
Monster it sounds like you are describing a Sage 5. I have one and love it.
I love the simplicity in the construction of this knife.

Thanks, Nick! It's easy enough even for me!
No washers is a surprise, for how smooth The Native feels. With a little use it gets even more smooth. I would have never guessed that it was just steel on the plastic handles. Thanks for another great video Nick!
To me it looks like the blade rides on the metal threaded inserts for the screws, a pretty trick design if you ask me
It looks like it would wear down the FRN handle scales over time.
stupid how they made this dissasemblable but not the lightweight manix
Just picked one of these up at a second hand shop. It was from a collection so it was barely used, got it for $85. I'm pretty happy with it
I got mine traded a sog and 60$ for this with a combo blade in dlc and a zt which turned out to be counterfeit the spiderco was real though so I guess I about broke even
One of the best small sized folders...

The native 5 is my every day carry. The love how light it is an the s35vn. I want the anniversary model some day.

Nick, please do a collection update.
I use tetra gun grease on my knives. Knife operates beautifully
That random "detent" hole is what makes it lightweight ;)
The hole in the blade corresponds with the steel type Nick anyways awesome channel and reviews man thanks for everything!
Thanks for the video. The way this doesn't have washers around the pivot was a deal breaker for me. Not a fan of plastic washers and the way the blade stock directly grinds against the handle material.
Thanks for the vid!!!! Going to clean mine today. The action has been really gritty so I'm sure it needs a good breakdown cleaning.
Hey you said that the action on a back-lock would never be much to talk about but the lionsteel tm1 is a back-lock that has an incredible action.
Any recommendations on getting the lock rock out when I have AWT scales
What is that beautiful tool you are using to disassemble the knife? I would love to know thanks!
I m hoping mine breaks in to be as smooth as the delica 4 ? It took a while but it happened . Thanks . Merry Christmas
Agree Nick. The native 5 in S35vn and S110v is an awesome catch. I have one of each and love them both. They are just very nice knives.
Wait a moment, Nick... did you notice how shallow the lock back bit in? I've checked your disassembly video of Chaparral, the lock was at least 50% deeper.
Where do they sell the factory seconds? Can’t find much online for a reasonably lower price to buy it instead of a new one
I’m curious: does the blade run against the FRN scales? Or does it run against the metal screw inserts? It seems like the screw inserts “stick out” a bit and sort of act as a normal washer would?
THX for sharing.
Oh hell yes, this might be my next buy! It's between the Kizer Gemini and the Native s110v now. Playfulness and looks, or function and easy carry...
sjoerd stok I own this knife in S35VN and G10 scales. I like it a lot

Is the backspacer removable?
Beautiful Great Knive.
I bought a new native 5, and it has light ratling inside, I think it could be the lock spring, could reassembling the knive would solve this problem?
Is the Salt version of the Native 5 equally easy to disassemble?
No washers. No liners. A plastic (essentially) handle. I just find I can’t part with my money for these types of Spyderco’s. It’s Chaparral all the way for me, the Lightweight version included- it has liners and washers and is beautifully constructed by the Taiwan factory. No comparison.
Will flytanium scales fit?
Hey nick, i have a manix 2 maxamet. Besides the locking mechanism is it basicly the same knife? thanks. You need to review some spiderco bob lums. keep up the good work
Manix 2 review coming soon :)
If you could only keep a Delica or a Native which would you chose and why?
Any way to disassemble the original Native?
Doesn't a heavy lube on a surface that is exposed in the pocket pick up a lot of pocket junk?
I am concerned that the FRN won't hold up as well as phosphor washers, nor will it be as easy to fix blade centering issues. Anyone have any really long term experience with frequent use that addresses this? It seems like they cut production costs a little too much considering the selling price.
Where can I find Spyderco factory seconds?
It appears that the blade runs on the pocket clip steel inserts, and not on the frn only.
I always see people swing open their Spidercos. I bought the native and simply can't achieve that little ''prouesse''. Any clue ??
+Jean-Pierre Bergeron That doesn't really work with backlock Spydercos, usually it's compression lock models!
Thanks Nick
You can however flick it open with your middle finger.
Nick, I love your videos. Keep up the good work!! I don't buy custom folders. My normal range is $80-$200.
Could you please do a disassemble video for the new spyderco military which has the new stop pin construction? Thanks.
+Vincent Chang Carryability, mostly. The Delica's nicer in the pocket.
That's true, forgot about that. I'm gonna assume they're pretty similar otherwise. Thanks!
I think the delica is a standard of measurement
a fan asked for a cleaning, can you give me and my knives a bath?🙃
The price on some of the Native 5's are ridiculous for a knife with no washers and no metal liners.
Warranty change by spyderco - releases all maintenance videos :D woohoo!
Fábio Constantino haha that was the comment I was gonna post

Dylan Wall The ball bearing lock is actually really nice. Unconventional, but pleasant once you play with it some.
I don't like the fact that there are no liners or washers in the pivot.

I love spyderco knifes, but geez over a 100.00 for knifes that are 50% plastic..
Terminology is wrong, there aren't any countersink screws, they are helicoils.
Seems to me that the Delica 4, with its liners and pivot washers, is better made than this knife.
It really must be horrible to be this guy. So critical of everything!!
I don't mind it so much, but thanks for stopping by. You should watch this: th-cam.com/video/LvrnSOyPypE/w-d-xo.html
