  • Its like Christmas Day all over again today!! I finally got my NEW RAMS!
My goal for 2020 is to refresh my F1 replacements with some fresh composite genetics, and to do that, I went back to the farm I bought my ewes from.
I also took some time to analyze the final results from this last lambing group... let me say, I was pleasantly surprised!
Always room to improve, but good to know I saw some here.
    #rams #sheep #lambing
    THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!!
    I FINALLY HAVE MERCH!

    Dear Sandi,
I absolutely love your videos! As an aspiring vet I appreciate how much you try to make your videos as realistic as possible, not sparing your viewers from the harsh realities of farming life. Thank you for providing such lovely educational and inspiring videos! You are amazing and your dedication to your flock is incredible!

Sandi my dad had to give up his beloved little flock of sheep when he was 80 because of coyotes the last couple of years his breeding ram was an Oxford he proved to be the best ever for meat lambs. Dad's sheep only ate hay in winter supplemented with a little grain feed at lambing time. And grass during summer. I know he had lambs born almost 20lbs. He knew the basics and would change out his rams he was so gentle with his sheep like you. Thanks for the beautiful memories.

1:08 All of us Michiganders second you on hating the winter. That blowing wind in your face at 5:15AM is hell. Snow in your boots. Think happy thoughts. That crappy winter makes you appreciate spring so much more (the good spring not the rainy/melty spring). That first sunny 65 degree day is like heaven.

Omg! I can totally relate about the situation with Mark, and your emotional exhaustion. When its frustrating that things seem so easy for them, when you've spent so much time trying yourself- even stupid things like opening a jar of jam! But yeah you vent, and you get overly sensitive, and it's easy to dump it on them.
The good thing about men is that once it's over, they move on. They don't stew like we do. We analyse and have self criticism, reviewing and reliving the situation. What's funny is that I think the reason men have difficulty apologizing, is because it rarely gets to that point, we seem to reach out to them because it's almost physically painful to leave it alone, to stew on it, and to wonder about the situation.
It's great that Mark is understanding, but its wonderful that you realized so quickly that he was helping and not criticizing, even though that's how it may have felt at the time.
My husband jokes that guys let things go because women are crazy. I have agreed.... why else would we put up with them.
I feel humbled that you were transparent and shared what happened with us. You could have easily edited that out. But that's not you. You are real, and I appreciate that you trusted to share your vulnerability

Yesterday's vlog really made me realize what you do for me (one of your viewers). This past year my fiance, my son, and I have been moving like crazy and I think part of the reason is when he is gone and I'm dealing with a crazy 2 year old, it drives me crazy.. It really bothered me how all of these other moms or house wives can just stay at home and take care of things at home. I was more worried about leaving the house and I couldnt because my fiance would have the car with him at work. That drove me insane and really made my moral plummet. Watching you everyday has made me have a new respect about being home and you really help me get over the mental hump that has stumped me for over a year and get over my anxiety amd the newness of being a stay at home mom. Thank you so very much.

Hi from Red Deer AB. Suggestion for bonding ewe and bottle fed lambs. Grandparents, then uncle who bought family farm and who were accomplished sheep herders , would take the dead lamb from the ewe, skin it without head and tail, and put it on a bottle fed lamb so ewe would accept it. Worked every time for them. Don't know if others still do this.
You are amazing on so many levels. Blessings in this year ahead.

Genetics is my jam. Taking one thing (in my case, chickens) and turning it through generations into another thing, is so so fun to do. Takes 7 generations to get 99.% pure (you can never get to 100% but 99% is close enough to be considered pure), in chickens it's easy and swift, in sheep it's going to be the next decade-ish to get to that point but you'll see every single generation the changes. Awesome Sandi, this group did awesome.

I mentioned your name and how awesome you are on Justin Rhoades (a great homesteader on youtube too). His wife wants more sheep, had them before and they all bloated/died. So now they have 5 females on pasture and she spent lots of time petting them in a pen so she's a sheep whisperer like you. Hopefully they read my post and checked you out. :) Their subscribers may come here and get addicted like I did. :) I have to hear the sheep to get relaxed for sleep.

Questions: Have you considered covering up your truck & trailer? Cheapest is taking shower curtains or liners, place over cab, cover doors and leave doors unlocked; cover back of stock trailer as to protect door slide from wetness and freezing? Molydisulfate (sp) to cover rubber seals as a barrier from freezing? Warm keys before inserting into locks help. Dry Molydisulfate loosens metal on metal surfaces..its metal shavings very fine. I found these tips helpful when I trailered . 👍

You should do a video all about genetics and the pros of the different breeds. It's so fascinating!

Congratulations Sandi, great to hear it was such a successful group and thanks for taking the time to share it with all of us! With the new rams and the goal of focussing on replacement genetics, it would be a great time to get involved with a genetic improvement program :)!

My husband and I have been friends since 1976 and married for 35 years. We're both retired all, children grown and on their own. So I now get most of his attention and he mine, yes we still bump heads, sometimes when I'm weak and things just won't go right, and I just want to cry. There he is my strength, sometimes I snap at him, don't know why, but he forgives me and makes me smile. Its okay to have a rough time, it does really make the good times better. 🌹A rose for you, I hope that you have a better day.

If you look on the back of that light fixture, it may say what the maximum wattage bulb is. A lot of manufacturers do that so people don't put too big of a bulb in them. It probably helps cover their butt too if it would burn the house or in your case, the barn down. Higher wattage bulbs pull more power and create more heat. If the fixture is rated for 100 watt max bulb and you have say a 150 watt bulb in it, the materials it is made of may fail because of the power draw.(heat)
By the looks of that fixture, I would say it should be replaced. With the heat it has seen, it has probably been weakened. When you go to get a new one, look to see what it is rated at. You don't want a repeat performance, you might not get as lucky.
I'd really hate to see that. That's probably why I'm being so long winded explaining this to you. I want you and the animals to be safe. lol!
Have a great day. Get some rest, you look exhausted.

Today my wife and I moved an almost too large couch into our basement. Some drywall repair to do, a light cover has already been replaced, some bad words said and probably worse ones thought...yes working with a spouse can be rough. When it was all done we kissed and made up, joked about it later. (FYI, when that couch leaves this house with help of a sawszall it will be in twice as many pieces). Thanks for the video.

My friends all laugh because I watch the lambing/kidding videos on TH-cam. I have caught them watching too. I am glad you don't feel you have to sugar coat things. You don't hide the facts that you win some and lose some. People need to know it is all rainbows and unicorns in farming and homesteading. Love your video for that reason.
